I spent 25 years as a journalist, hoping that someday I could become a teacher. I did that in 1998 and I have never looked back. Are there bad days? Just like everywhere else. But nothing beats helping a student learn and achieve.
My Education and Professional Background
Teaching is my second career. In my first life, I was a newspaper editor/columnist. I worked at the Phoenix Gazette, The Idaho Statesman and The Arizona Republic. Altogether, I worked for more than 25 years in different positions, including as a copy editor, editor and newspaper columnist. But, I woke up one day and decided I wanted to do something more meaningful with my life: Teaching is it. I love it. I am certified to teach kindergarten to 12th grade, and am highly qualified to teach English, government, social studies and journalism. My undergraduate degree is in journalism from Arizona State University; my post-baccalaureate degrees are from University of Phoenix in elementary and secondary education; and my master's degree is in secondary education from Northern Arizona University.
My Educational Philosophy
All students can learn. It is the teacher's responsibility to figure out what that is and to help the student succeed.
