About
Smith...
Welcome to Ms. Smith's English class! I look forward to a phenomenal school year!
My Education and Professional Background
I am a graduate of Grand Canyon University where I received a Bachelor’s of Science in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English. This is my third year at Casteel High school where I have taught 8th, 9th, and 10th grade English.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe education is the fundamental principle that creates strong individuals and thus strong societies. Education should emphasize critical thinking first and foremost, so that all material presented for learning can be fully understood and internalized by the student. A teacher is a guide and a mentor for student learning. English education is vital, not only training students in the art of communication, both verbal and written, but also teaching students about the commonality and diversity of mankind. Subject matter should be relevant to today so that students understand what they are learning and why it is important.
