Welcome to Basha High School! My name is Alisha Raccuia and I will be teaching in one of the Self Contained ABLE (Abilities of Life Education) classrooms. I also coach for our Unified Sports program; which includes flag football, soccer, track, basketball, and cheer. I am very excited for this school year and all of the great things we are going to be able to accomplish.
My Education and Professional Background
I originally received my bachelor's from the University of Arizona in the field of psychology and started working as a paraprofessional for Basha High in 2011. After finding my passion of working with individuals with intellectual disabilities I went back to school to receive my teaching certificate in Special Education. I am currently finishing the requirements for a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Plymouth State University.
My Educational Philosophy
There is something incredible rewarding and justifying in helping students translate and digest the world. I have the amazing privilege of not just teaching my students how to read or write, but also how to interact socially, interpret emotions, and how to function successfully away from their families. My hope is that every student that leaves my classroom will be one step closer to living an independent and autonomous life.
