My name is Miss Smith and I am so excited to be a part of Chandler Unified School District and proud to learn that Chandler has been an "A" rated school district, one of only 9 districts to receive this honor for the past four years in a row. I'm looking forward to doing my part to continue this tradition as I believe this kind of success starts from the beginning, that is, in the elementary schools.
My Education and Professional Background
I received a full four year scholarship as a Cellist and graduated with double majors from ASU with a Bachelors in Cello Performance, and, a Bachelors in Education with an emphasis in String Concentration. I teach private lessons on the Violin, Viola and Cello and am accepting new students. I then pursued and graduated with a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. My experience also includes teaching middle school Orchestra. I took them on a four day trip to California over Spring Break for a Strings competition to Disneyland and we won first place in our division. I have been teaching General Music for three years now and enjoy going to the Orff workshops and staying up-to-date with all the latest general music ideas and teaching techniques. I also have a passion for Spelling and as a previous Spelling Bee coordinator, helped a student get to Regionals. I am a mom of two beautiful children.
My Educational Philosophy
My ultimate mission, in alignment with the district, includes and is not limited to, facilitating knowledge, skills and a positive attitude for each and every child in a safe, caring environment that offers quality learning experiences, combined with a solid foundation of musical skills that foster the development of respect and responsibility with a passion to become lifelong learners and contributing members and leaders of society. In this way, not every child has to be come a Concertmaster or Solo Violinist of a famous Symphony Orchestra, but as long as they are exposed to music in a meaningful and purposeful way, they can, and will create beautiful memories and experiences in their own lives, as they become their own leaders, while they grow and learn in a joyful, fun and rewarding environment through the magical inspiration of Music.
