    Welcome!

Hello, welcome to 6th grade Social Sciences class! I am looking forward to getting to know all my students and their family this year. I can't wait to make amazing memories and learn many new things with my 6th grade students as they wrap up their elementary school journey.

    My Education and Professional Background

After standing in the wrong line at the job fair at the University of Oklahoma, I ended up starting a career in Human Resources Management. I was heavily involved in employee relations, business strategy partnership and staffing and corporate training and education for many years. However, I always had a desire to make my way back into an education classroom someday. With the encouragement of my family, I returned to school in pursuit of becoming an educator. I started as a substitute, then a long-term substitute all while completing my teaching post-bac program. I have an SEI endorsement and I am Spalding Certified. I was asked to continue in the classroom full time at the end of my long-term assignment, and so began my 4th grade teaching journey. I was thrilled at the opportunity to be a part of CUSD and the CTA Independence teaching community.  I have never looked back and have enjoyed the opportunity to fulfill my passion to become a teacher. My original plan was to teach jr. high or high school grades, and now in 6th grade, I am able to get my students' future ready for the upper grades.  How amazing it is that I get to be a small part of a child's path that they contribute to the world......

    My Educational Philosophy

I am passionate about making education and learning something the students entering my classroom love! There is nothing more rewarding than having students who WANT to come to school and WANT to learn. I am continually amazed by the growth the students at CTA Independence are capable of and helping them realize their potential is what makes my job amazing! My classroom is filled with high expectations, structure, respect, laughter and encouragement. I believe that students learn best when they are surrounded by consistency and positive energy within the classroom. It takes a village to raise these kiddos and I am excited to partner with my families to see these students soar!
