Our growing district is continually seeking qualified substitutes who are dedicated to providing students with an exceptional educational experience. Join one of Arizona's premier school districts and become part of the Chandler Unified School District substitute team!

As a substitute, you'll enjoy a flexible schedule and have the opportunity to choose the days, school locations, and grade levels that best fit your preferences. Compensation is $170 per day for certified substitute teachers and increases to $200 per day for qualifying long-term assignments.

Please note: Chandler Unified School District is not currently accepting Emergency Substitute Certificates.

Substitute Teaching Requirements

If you hold a Bachelor's degree or higher, you may be eligible for an Arizona Substitute Certificate issued by the Arizona Department of Education. To apply, you must submit official transcripts and a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card with your application.

For additional information about certification requirements and the application process, visit the Arizona Department of Education website or contact their office at (602) 542-4367.

If you already hold a valid Arizona teaching certificate, you are not required to obtain a substitute certificate.

Applicants must also possess a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card. Information on applying for or renewing a Fingerprint Clearance Card is available through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Once all certification and fingerprint requirements have been met, you may apply to join the Chandler Unified School District substitute team.

Does Chandler Unified School District accept an Emergency Substitute Certificate?

No. Chandler Unified School District does not currently accept Emergency Substitute Certificates. Individuals interested in serving as a substitute teacher must hold a valid Arizona Substitute Certificate or another qualifying Arizona teaching certificate.

What are the current substitute pay rates?

Certified Substitute Teacher

Full Day (up to 8 hours): $170.00
Half Day (4 hours or less): $85.00
Assignments of 2 hours and 15 minutes or less are paid at the following hourly rates:
- Certified Substitute Teacher: $21.25 per hour
- Para Educator: $17.86 per hour

Substitute Registered Nurse

Full Day: $170.00
Half Day: $85.00

Long-Term Certified Teacher

Full Day: $200.00
Half Day: $100.00

Substitute Para Educator

No Certificate Required

What is the dress code for substitutes?

Professional Attire Guidelines

Attire should be professional, appropriate for a school setting, clean, neat, and in good repair. Clothing should provide adequate coverage and allow for a full range of movement without exposing undergarments or bare skin. Please dress appropriately for your assigned position.

For Physical Education (PE) assignments, knee-length shorts and athletic shoes are permitted.

The District discourages visible tattoos and body piercings other than earrings.

Monday Through Thursday: Business Casual Attire

Appropriate business casual attire is expected.

Friday Dress Code

The following items are permitted on Fridays:

Slacks made from non-denim material
Dresses and skirts no more than 3 inches above the knee
Leggings or tights when worn with a top that reaches mid-thigh or longer
Clean, neat, and appropriate footwear
Leather or leather-like sandals, with or without back straps
Blue or colored jeans that are clean and in good condition
Skorts no more than 3 inches above the knee
T-shirts featuring a school logo or school-related message
Spirit Day attire that remains in compliance with District dress code requirements

I received an expiration notification from SmartFind Express. What should I do?

If you have received an expiration notice from SmartFind Express, please review the expiration dates on your Arizona Educator Certificate and Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Educator Certificate Renewal

To renew your certificate, visit the Arizona Department of Education website: Arizona Department of Education - Certification Renewal

Once you receive your renewed certificate, please scan and email a copy to hardinsylvestre.marissa@cusd80.com. In your email, please indicate that the document should be used to update your record in the SmartFind Express system for Chandler Unified School District.
