Chandler Unified Celebrates Historic Milestone with Six A+ Schools of Excellence™ Awards

The Arizona Educational Foundation (AEF) has officially announced its 2026 A+ Schools of Excellence™ winners, and Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) has achieved a historic milestone. Six schools within the district have earned the prestigious honor simultaneously, representing 12% of all recognitions awarded statewide this year. 

The 2026 CUSD A+ Schools of Excellence™ are: 

• Andersen Elementary School 

• Chandler High School 

• Conley Elementary School 

• Haley Elementary School 

• Knox Gifted Academy 

• Navarrete Elementary School 

While CUSD has a long-standing history of excellence, this year’s multi-school recognition is unprecedented. With these latest additions, CUSD schools have now received this prestigious honor more than 110 times since the program's inception. This achievement demonstrates the district's commitment to high academic standards, visionary leadership, and a community-wide dedication to student success. 

"This historic achievement is a testament to the relentless hard work of our educators, students, families, and community partners," said Frank Narducci CUSD Superintendent. "To have six of our schools recognized at once—comprising over ten percent of the state's total awards—proves that our 'Tradition of Excellence' isn't just a slogan; it is a lived reality in every classroom. We are incredibly proud of these school communities for setting the gold standard for public education in Arizona." 

Since 1983, the AEF A+ School of Excellence™ program has served as the state's highest honor for public schools. Unlike traditional letter grades that focus primarily on test scores, the A+ designation involves a comprehensive "report card" of a school’s entire ecosystem. 

To earn the award, schools must demonstrate: 

• Superior Instruction: Providing high-quality, ability-appropriate learning. 

• Exceptional Climate: Creating safe, learner-focused environments and holistic care for student needs. 

• Innovation: Supporting teacher-led instruction and responsiveness to the evolving educational landscape. 

• Community Integration: Strong partnerships with families and local stakeholders. 

Originally designed to identify candidates for the U.S. Department of Education’s National Blue Ribbon Schools Award, the A+ program has evolved into a framework for exemplary school self-assessment. Winning schools serve as models for other educators across the state, boosting public confidence and fostering stronger community involvement.
