Governor Hobbs Visits Chandler Traditional Academy - Liberty Campus to Celebrate Reduced-Price School Meal Funding

CHANDLER, AZ — On Thursday, July 30, 2026, Chandler Traditional Academy - Liberty Campus hosted Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs for a special morning event celebrating new state funding that waives co-pays for reduced-price school meals across the state.

Governor Hobbs stepped right into action behind the cafeteria counter, working the serving line alongside CUSD Food and Nutrition staff to dish out hot breakfasts—including crowd-favorite tater tots—to more than 50 participating students.

Chandler Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Anna Battle and members of the CUSD Governing Board were on hand to greet arriving students, family members, and staff. The campus energy was high as the Eagle mascot posed for photos with Governor Hobbs, students, and cafeteria team members. Before departing, the Governor was presented with appreciation gifts from CTA Liberty students and the CUSD Food and Nutrition department.

Governor Hobbs also met briefly with local news media to explain how waiving the reduced-meal co-pay eliminates financial barriers for families, ensuring students start their school day nourished and ready to learn.

The visit demonstrated CUSD Food and Nutrition Services' expansive year-round operation:

• Over 5 million total meals served during the past school year.

• 46 schools and 5 community partnerships providing breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks.

• 12 months of continuous service to ensure student access to healthy meals even during breaks.
