Students study anatomy, human growth and development, human disease, infection control, legal responsibilities, vital signs, medical terminology and careers in health. Students explore the health field through classroom activities, guest speakers, and presentations. CPR for healthcare providers is taught in Medical Professions I (costs covered in class fees which must be paid during the first month of school).
Mosby’s Textbook for Nursing Assistants 8th Edition – Med Prof. I & II textbook by Sorrentino
Pearson’s Nursing Assistant Today – 1st Edition by Wolgin, Smith and French
Other resource books are available in the classroom to be checked out.
Notebook, paper, pen (black) or pencil is required to function in the classroom setting

Personal wellness and safety Medical terminology
Communication and teamwork Human body systems
Grades for this course will be attained and evaluated through a points-based system on the items listed below:
- daily participation points will be given based on being on time, contributing
positively in class, etc. Quizzes and tests will vary based on the number of questions
- Weekly articles (Medical Professions I)
A= 90-100% B= 80-89% C= 70-79% D= 60-69% F= 50-59%
Must maintain a minimum grade of 76% throughout the program.
Parents can access their child’s grades and assignments by going to the school’s website. Parents may contact office personnel/counselor for their child’s password.
All students will arrive to class on time, prepared to listen, participate, and learn. Effort in class and on all assignments is rewarded and graded. Respect, honesty and mature behavior are vital. No cell phones should be used during class time. Gum is not allowed in the classroom.
Make Up Policy:
It is the student’s responsibility to find out what was missed during an absence. All work must be made-up and turned in within the same number of days missed. Homework is due on the day assigned only. Late assignments will not be accepted. Any absences that are not excused immediately following the day missed will constitute a zero grade to any work turned in or done in class, but you will be responsible for that information. If an excused absence is not recorded with the Attendance Office within 24 hours of the missed day, I reserve the right to let the zero stand on missed work.
Attendance and Tardy Procedures/Consequences:
Don’t be tardy. It is very important to come to class on time and be ready to work. Managers expect employees to be on time and so do teachers. To be considered on time, students must be in the classroom before the tardy bell rings, at their desks. Class begins promptly and I will expect you to be on time. 1-3 tardies: schedules make up time within 2 school days for however long the student was tardy with the instructor during lunch. After the fourth tardy, a referral will be submitted to administration to decide the consequence. Basha High School attendance and tardiness policies will be enforced.
You are required to clean up your own mess. Gum should not be attached to the bottom of desks, please discard in the trash. If there is any garbage near your desk you will be asked to throw it away. It does not matter whose it is. The classroom is ours and represents us so, we should treat it well. Clean up all of your garbage at all times so I don’t have to ask.
Conference period will be on Wednesday and Thursday from 9:17 – 9:45. During this time students will not leave conference period classroom without a properly designated color club pass. The library is not available during conference. Students should use this time to study or read.
Classroom Rules and Behavior:
- RESPECT ALL STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND PROPERTY. This is your school and your education.
- COME TO CLASS PREPARED EVERYDAY. Bring all supplies you need and take care of your needs before coming to class.
- BE ON TIME TO CLASS AND PAY ATTENTION WHILE YOU ARE HERE. Absences, tardies, participation, work habits and attitude can affect your grade.
- BEHAVE IN A MANNER APPROPRIATE FOR SCHOOL. Stay calm, mature, and respectful. Profanity is not an acceptable form of communication.
- NO FOOD, DRINK, GUM, CELLPHONES, HEADPHONES. Water in a closed container is okay. Cell phones and electronic devices confiscated by Ms. Mangan may be obtained after class. Frequent confiscations will result in items being given to administration for retrieval.
The first consequence for behavioral issues will be a talk with me and a warning. The second consequence will be a discussion with me and a call home to your parents/guardian. The third will be a referral to the office where administration will decide the appropriate plan of action.
