Welcome!

Thank you for stopping by. I love anything Disney, especially Minnie Mouse. This year, I have decorated my classroom to reflect my love of Disney. I have a passion for teaching Kindergarten and look forward to helping children learn through exploration and play as well as traditional methods of teaching.

My Education and Professional Background

I am an ASU graduate. I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University in May of 2003. My first job I after graduation in July of 2003 was teaching Kindergarten at Laveen Elementary with the Laveen Elementary School District. While working in Laveen I attended NAU to pursue a master’s degree in Bilingual and Multicultural Education with an endorsement in English as a Second language. I graduated from Northern Arizona University in December 2006. After receiving my master’s degree, I began working for the Apache Junction Unified School District as an English language teacher. During my time in Apache Junction, I also taught Kindergarten and early kindergarten. I was employed with Apache Junction for five years. In July of 2012 I started working for the Chandler Unified School District as a Kindergarten teacher.

My Educational Philosophy

Every child is a unique, complex learner. A child is a social being who learns through the development of relationships with peers and adults. Every child is entitled to learning environments that support optimal development of the whole child; is entitled to opportunities to learn through active exploration. Every child learns through child-initiated, child-directed, teacher-supported play.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. Welcome!

Welcome to Kindergarten! Believe it or not, I wanted to be a Kindergarten teacher since I was in the third grade. I love it!

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia in 1996 with a Master of Science in Education. In September 1998, I taught my first class of Kindergartners at Winding Creek Elementary in Stafford, Virginia. At the completion of the school year, I moved to Arizona. Since July 1999 I have been teaching Kindergartners at Sanborn Elementary. I have an Early Childhood Endorsement as well as a Structured English Immersion Endorsement.

My Educational Philosophy

A former principal of Sanborn, Mrs. Hock, would always tell the children, “You are unique, loveable, and capable of success”. I am a firm believer of this. Not every child learns the same way or comes to school with the same knowledge. However, every child can learn and it is up to me, with the support of his/her parents, to provide the best learning experience for each child.

Welcome!

Welcome To Our Fantastic 4th Grade Classroom!!

My Education and Professional Background

I began working in the Chandler District as a kindergarten aide at Humphrey Elementary. I was with kindergarten for 3 years before I began working toward my degree in teaching. In the fall of 2005, I did my student teaching (4th grade) at Humphrey Elementary and graduated with my degree from Ottawa University. Following that, I was then hired at Sanborn in December for a position in resource, working with 5th and 6th graders. At the end of that school year, I was hired back at Sanborn to teach 3rd grade. I'm now in 4th grade and I love it!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe in students believing in themselves. There is no stronger power than that to help them on their paths to their own successes. I want to provide opportunities for my students to share their thoughts and ideas in a safe, learning environment. When alternate ideas and thought processes are shared, it not only builds stronger connections to one another, but also gives my students several strategies to help them operate in the world around us. I believe in the power of shared learning and working as a team, as well as the power of each individual student. I enjoy seeing things through the eyes of my students and spending time with each one to understand how they think and reflect on their learning. I work hard to help struggling students master concepts and challenge those who are ready for it. In my mind, one of the best feeling s in the world is to see the look of success and inspiration on my students’ faces.

I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as a educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas.

Welcome!

Hi! Welcome to 6th Grade – room M1! I am excited to be your child’s 6th Grade teacher here at Sanborn. I began working with CUSD in January of 2015, after being away from teaching for a few short years. During those years I was working at a Fortune 500 company, but my mind kept returning to teaching. I was lucky enough to obtain a position at CTA Liberty in January before making my way to Sanborn. I am much happier doing what I love – teaching.

My Education and Professional Background

I received my BA in General and Special Education from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, N.Y., and began teaching with the NYC Dept. of Education in 2001. Between N.Y.C and Phoenix, AZ, I have taught every grade from 3 – 6 including Special Education, General Education and Alternative Education

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that the best way to learn isn’t just through reading about something, it also includes discussion and the exchange of information and experiences. I feel that everyone, no matter their background or age, have experiences and knowledge that they can use to help and educate someone else, and I encourage my students to bring these things into the classroom. This helps to build a community of learners who begin to think outside of the box.

I have been working as a Speech Therapist in the public school setting since 2009, but I have been working in special education since 2003.

My Educational Philosophy

I have so many goals and hopes for each of my students. Communication truly is the foundation of all that we do in life and I believe that EVERY student has a story to tell and it is my job to help and encourage them to tell it. I love using technology to help “capture” my students’ learning moments so that they can see and be reminded of all the times that they have been successful and to make therapy more personal for each of them.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Sanborn Elementary Orchestra. I am happy to have the opportunity to work with the children at Sanborn, to build their music reading skills for a rich future of enjoying music at a deeper level.

My Education and Professional Background

Mrs. Burkhart graduated with her BA in Music Education from Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan. She received her MAED in Educational Counseling from the University of Phoenix. She has been teaching music for well over 35 years, most of which was in the public schools in Brevard County, Florida, the Kyrene School District, Scottsdale School District and the Chandler School District, including Santan Jr. High School. In 2011 she was provided the opportunity to take her Santan JH Chamber Orchestra to perform at a Heritage Festival of Gold in Chicago where her students performed at Symphony Hall and received a Gold Award.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that teachers have the responsibility to not only teach young people within the confines of their particular discipline, but to teach that discipline and how it relates to other disciplines and life in general. It is the teachers responsibility to provide a nurturing environment where children feel safe and loved and where they learn to work as a team as well as individually in a community where there is mutual respect for each other. The teacher must provide for the individual educational needs of each student and do his/her very best to motivate and inspire each student to want to be their very best.

Welcome!

Welcome to Sanborn Elementary! I am excited to be your Counselor and I look forward to a wonderful year working with the students, parents, and staff.

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated with a B.A. in Special Education from Arizona State University. (Go Devils!) I have an M.A. in Counseling from Northern Arizona State University. It is an honor to be working in the Chandler Unified School District. Before coming to Sanborn, I taught at Bogle Junior High and Shumway Elementary.

My Educational Philosophy

Every child is unique and valued. Providing students with a positive and safe environment in which to learn is critical to a student's success. Understanding the unique individuality of each student enables us to focus on their specific needs. Encouraging open and respectful dialogue enhances learning and the exploration of new ideas.
