Kindergarten students and teachers participated in a project-based learning activity where they discussed WHY they need a new, better-designed playground and HOW it should look. Students and staff used thinking maps to process their ideas and create ideas for a new, safe playground. Students wrote letters and created videos that went to district office officials and school principal, Ms. Wolf. These kindergarten leaders found out this month the project was a success! Jacobson will get a new north-side playground this summer!

She took them into the Mindfulness room for a session. The students also met with NHS (National Honor Society) students and Husky Helpers. For the past two years, CTA Independence National Elementary Honor Society students have donated gift cards to help homeless and underprivileged students and families at Hamilton.

The judges chose his entry out of 48 essays received from students all over the city. Sam was honored Wednesday, May 15 at The Youth Awards Nights Banquet, held at the Chandler Elks Lodge.

The students learned how to sew sling backpacks and worked to fill them with toiletries. These were donated to Hamilton High School to help CUSD students in need. Rajani Rastogi, a social worker for the district, was a guest speaker in one class and invited students to Hamilton High to see how the district manages supplies for underprivileged families. While at Hamilton, Mrs. Wright's class packed 90 supply bags for families, toured the high school and spoke with National Honor Society and Huskies Helping Huskies students, as well as attending a mindfulness session. There were 200 indoor and outdoor booths, showcasing students' talents.

Poems were evaluated on creativity, sensory/figurative images, structure, and use of poetic techniques. Their poems will be published in the 25th edition of the Young American Poetry Digest.

Due to his quick actions, Kaden was able to pull the granddaughter of Patterson Elementary first grade teacher Heather Ackerman from a pool and saved her life. Additionally, $1,000 worth of swim lessons are being offered for free and a pool fence is being installed at someone's house, both in his honor. He was also given the "Golden Rule Student of the Month" award by Agree.

They were one of only two Arizona teams to place out of 409 teams who participated. Team 4750C (Hannah Rahamim, Michael Stahl and Cayden Thompson) also won the Inspire Award. The Inspire Award is presented to a team only at Worlds that has inspired judges with their approach to the VEX IQ program.
