Chandler High - (2019-2020) CHS Theatre's production of The Great Gatsby was superb! The play, directed by Ms. Stephanie Likes and Ms. Katie Kolacki, featured Elijah Newton, Charlize Cornejo, Ryan Cogley, Drew Sedgley, Liz Del Vecchio, Izzy Stephens, Zac Denny, Luke Waxman and an awesome ensemble cast. Without the outstanding stage management and other crews, this production would not have been possible. Congratulations on a great show!
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Marketing program and Student Council teamed up to sponsor CHS's 2019 Fall Fest, a community festival including rides, games, a petting zoo and food.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Carlos Aguero, has been invited to perform at the ASU School of Music's Band and Orchestra Invitational in the spring. The band received the selective invitation by earning a Superior rating at the 2019 ABODA (Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association) State Concert Festival.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Ciana Reynoso, Chandler High varsity golfer, earned an individual top ten finish in the Aguila Open Golf Tournament.
Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2019-2020) STYROFOAM BUSTERS! A group of eight students are looking at innovative ways to get rid of styrofoam pollution at ACP Erie. They are creating awareness among students to drop their used lunch plates in special containers, and then these students are collecting them everyday. The aim is to compress the styrofoam, hence reducing the volume and treat it with materials that will dissolve them. Creativity and innovativeness comes from critical thinking and problem solving. GO KNIGHTS!
Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2019-2020) Halloween is definitely near -- but students had so much fun assembling the skeleton in Rachna Nath's Human Bio class.
Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2019-2020) ACP Erie's Lemelson-MIT team, the KNIGHTS INNOVATORS, presented their Hydrothermal Hat/Headband to the CEO of Chandler Innovations, Mrs. Daina White. Mrs. White invited the team to attend the Track 1 program that the City of Chandler sponsors in collaboration with NACET (Northern Arizona Center for Emerging Technologies) for starting their own entrepreneurship. These ACP students will now be able to access technical support, marketing support, patent support and meet with some of the top businessmen in Arizona to support their cause. The Knights Innovators started their track last Tuesday at Chandler Innovations in Downtown Chandler. This group consists primarily of freshman and sophomores. We are proud of them for mastering public speaking and reaching out to Mayor Kevin Hartke, the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, and many IT companies around Chandler. VIDEO: Hydro-Thermal Hat
Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2019-2020) ACP Erie is proud to have FOUR National Merit Scholar Semifinalists: Jayden Chen, Kazushi Iwamoto, Sharmila Nimbkar, and Orchee Syed. About 1.6 million students in some 22,000 high schools enter the National Merit Scholarship competition annually when they take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Semifinalists are the highest-scoring program entrants in each state and represent the top 0.5% of the state's senior students. Way to go, Knights!
Casteel High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Dalton Card, the first ever defensive player to be nominated for the Ed Daugherty - Arizona Athletic Excellence Award.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) During an afternoon ceremony, Hamilton High students Zana Ryan, editor; and Nolen Coley, cinematographer; earned a student production Rocky Mountain Emmy Award by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences from their work in the category of "High School Student Craft Editor" for their Hamilton High track promotional video.
Basha High - (2019-2020) Keith Tomaszewicz's engineering classes took a field trip in September to Grand Canyon University to participate in Engineering GCU DAY. Students were exposed to different engineering programs and career options, and got to do a hands-on workshop with breadboards and electronic circuits to operate autonomous robots and a laser beam. Additionally, they went on a tour of the engineering labs and reviewed the engineering curriculum that GCU offers. Actual GCU engineering students also took Mr. Tomaszewicz's 2nd and 3rd year students around the campus to show them what campus life is like. GCU Engineering Day Photo Album
Casteel High - (2019-2020) Casteel High students attended the National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Arizona State Summit at ASU on September 12 to elevate our school's commitment to scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.

Casteel High - (2019-2020) Casteel High teacher Christopher James was interviewed by his U.S. Military students (class) about his experiences serving in Iraq. The Veterans Heritage Project was on campus to record the interview and discuss the upcoming publication of the interview. Casteel sophomore, Sydnee Watkins will write the story to be published in the Library of Congress and the Veterans Heritage Project Book. Furthermore, James encouraged other students, including sophomore Hope Henry, to interview and write a story about a family member who served and can share their experiences as well. Hope is interviewing her grandfather about his experiences in the Vietnam War and will have the interview and story published.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's Air Force JROTC visited iFLY indoor sky diving last Monday and engaged in lessons on physics and wind tunnels and how terminal velocity can be calculated using a Algebraic equation. Cadets then suited up, received flight lessons, and had two flights in the flight chamber. After their flights, the cadets calculated their terminal velocity and came up with figures very close to what their true number was. It was a very rewarding experience.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler Girls Volleyball was named the Bronze Bracket Champions at the Westwood Tournament of Champions.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler came away with a 56-0 win over Capital Christian on the first game of the 2019 Cali Football Classic played at Moorpark High School. Mikey Keene was 10-10 completing all passes for 261 yards, Jalen Richmond had two touchdowns and Gunner Maldonado had two punt returns for 126 yards. On the ground, Dae Dae Hunter had two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving, and ran for 69 yards. Nick Nesbitt ran for 77 yards and had a touchdown catch, and Rodney Clemente had a 43 yards rushing on five carries. The defense was led by Zion Magalei, Jeremiah Tyler, Anthony Hanger and Bryant Jackson. Strong defensive performances were also turned in by the linebackers Malik Reed, Tate Romney, and Kyler Orr.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Bring Change to Mind Club hosted an "I Care" table at lunch last week and encouraged students to write notes of encouragement and thanks to people they care about. Bring Change to Mind is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging dialogue about mental health, and to raising awareness, understanding, and empathy.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Mattie Shumaker and Isabel Honzay went undefeated in doubles 2 at the 2019 Forner Badminton Tournament and earned 1st place medals.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Lady Wolves Cross Country Team ran to a second place finish at the Ojo Rojo Invitational. Ava Potts, Brooke Eversden, Lauren Kazaroff, Daniela Montufar, Lauren Copeland, Alyssa Lewis and Cydney Maxson were the top seven scoring for the varsity team. In the freshman race, Destiny Hernandez ran strong for an 8th place finish.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Hamilton High School is currently piloting an AP course developed through a partnership between the CollegeBoard and the African Diaspora Consortium: AP Seminar with African Diaspora content. This is the first ever AP course with an African topic, and Hamilton is proud to be the first school in the western US to offer this course. The Senior Executive Director of the African Diaspora Consortium, Rhonesha Blaché, visited with the class and facilitated a lesson about changing perceptions of Africa. Hamilton students have also had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Adama Sallu as a guest speaker and attending a 1619 commemoration event during which Dr. Sallu was a panelist. A university partnership is also a part of this pilot program, so students will have opportunities for field trips to ASU and graduate student mentorship as they conduct research.
Perry High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Tatum Stall who was named the MVP of the Westwood Tournament of Champions Volleyball Tournament this weekend. Perry High won the tournament which featured 36 of the top teams in the state.
Casteel High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Ashlyn Drew who was named one of the Top 300 MASTERS (out of 2,348 nominees from across the U.S.) in the 2019 Broadcom MASTERS, a program of Society for Science & the Public. She and her science fair project, Heightened Hydroponics, will now compete to become one of 30 national finalists in the Broadcom competition. Perry High - (2019-2020) The Perry High Teenage Republican Club (TARs) organized the 9/11: Never Forget Project memorial on campus. They planted over 1,000 flags to commemorate the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 and honor the American victims, first responders and families affected.

Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High junior Andre Richardson has been selected to attend the Southwest Airlines 2019 Continuing the Legacy in Aviation (academy/program) at the Southwest HQ Campus in Dallas, Texas this October. In June, Andre was selected to attend a weeklong Aviation Career Education Academy and learned about the aviation field through tours and professional instructions. Andre received an award for outstanding graduate as well as the Top Flyer Award. Andre was recommended by his academy instructor to apply for the Southwest Airlines Continuing the Legacy in Aviation event that hosts students from all over the country. Andre's application was selected and he was awarded the all-expense paid trip for him and a parent to attend.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Holly Hoogstra, Chandler High senior, who was recognized with the IB Student of the Year Award at the quarterly meeting of the Arizona International Baccalaureate Schools.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) The Lady Wolves stepped up on a humid Saturday morning and defended their title against 32 other teams at the Chandler Invitational. Ava Potts won the sophomore race while posting the 3rd best overall time of the day. Lauren Kazaroff, in her first race as a Wolf, took home the honors, winning the freshman contest. Brooke Eversden placed 2nd in the senior run followed by Daniela Montufar, who was 10th. Sarah Plant kept things close in the junior competition with a ninth place finish.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Hamilton Girls Golf on their 4th place finish at the Chappy Wheeler Tournament in Palm Desert, CA on September 6 and 7.
Chandler Early College - (2019-2020) Lavender Hubbard excels at balancing school, a social life -- and improvisation! The Chandler Early College senior has been performing improv since middle school and is poised to make to the big time. Between taking classes at ImprovMANIA, dabbling in art, and excelling in her academic endeavors, Lavender also serves as a leader and mentor to her fellow students at CEC.
Perry High - (2019-2020) The Social Studies department at Perry High School is inaugurating a chapter of the Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society. Its namesake is John Prothro whose dedication to teaching social studies has impacted countless students over his 30+ years in the classroom. Advisors for the new honor society are Danielle Platt and Taryn Randall.

Perry High - (2019-2020) Perry Badminton competed in the 16-team Highland Flying Feathers Tournament over the 3-day Labor Day weekend. Perry Badminton won the tournament for the 4th time in a row, and Nikhita Jayaraj was voted to the All-Tournament Team.

Casteel High - (2019-2020) Casteel Colts students are multi-talented! Football center LeCharles Bentley Jr. also plays the violin in the orchestra program. Recently he and other orchestra students performed for the front office.
Chandler Early College - (2019-2020) From his first days as a CEC student, senior Cristian Valdez has continuously added to the spirit and vibe of Chandler Early College with his hand-drawn artwork. Valdez had the honor of drawing the cover photo of last year's yearbook, and has signed on to be a regular contributor to the artwork and design of the 2019-2020 yearbook.

Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High graduate Whitney Foster recently won third place in the world and first in the nation as a part of ASU's all-female robosub team at the Robonation International Competition in San Diego. The Si Se Puede Foundation, a valuable partner to CHS, was one of the founders of the WAVE Robotics Team. ABC Good Morning America: All-female robotics team wins major awards while slashing stereotypes of women, Latinos in STEM.

Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2019-2020) The ACP Erie 2019-2020 Lemelson-MIT team met with Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke and presented their Hydro-hat proposal. This hat has temperature, humidity and pulse meters in the frame. The hat is made of a wicking material and communicates through the sensors via Bluetooth to an app on the users phone, reporting the level of heat stress the user is under. The aim of the project is to reduce heat stress and heat related illnesses in Arizona. It is so cool that even our district athletes can benefit from it.
