Divider and spacer Visit Chandler High Website Report a Problem with Item A007899 Chandler HighTurkey Donation - (2019-2020)  Modazz and the Chandler High Dance Department donated $750.00 in turkeys to the Chandler CARE Center for the holidays. The students and their dance teacher, Mrs. Kathie Buren, have been donating to the CARE center for nearly 30 years and have donated close to $13,000 in turkeys since 1991! Way to go!

She had her play directed by a professional director and performed for the 90 other schools present at the competition. In addition, Hamilton Theatre seniors Raven Harris, Reily Neimyer, and Xavier Valdez auditioned and received offers from colleges and universities across the nation.

The Bears came from behind to defeat Perry High 14-25, 21-25, 32-30, 25-23, 15-10 to win their first-ever title. Congratulations to both teams on an incredible season!  
Email this item to a friend Open just this item  Divider and spacer Visit Casteel High Website Report a Problem with Item A007890 Casteel HighWalk with a Doc - (2019-2020)  Fifteen Casteel High student volunteers assisted the Sun Lakes Rotary Club with their Walk with a Doc initiative. While members of the Sun Lakes Community walk at their own pace, they have the opportunity to choose from one of three walks with varying lengths on flat ground and to have questions answered by local physicians. Students assisted with registrations and participated in walking with Sun Lakes Residents and engaging in conversation along with encouragement. In addition, the Hamilton and Casteel Interact clubs assisted with the annual Sun Lakes Rotary Breakfast, which helps raise funds for the Sun Lakes Rotary club and all of their initiatives.

Project Lead the Way recognized Sylvia in front of hundreds of attendees, including teachers from across the United States.

Christian Harvey had this to say about his Human Bio Teacher in the nomination: "Ms. Andrews is a great role model. She wants all of her students to do well and makes sure they're consistent with their work and their grades are up to par."

Email this item to a friend Open just this item  Divider and spacer Visit Chandler High Website Report a Problem with Item A007868 Chandler HighState Thespian Conference - (2019-2020)  Chandler High's Theatre Troupe attended the two-day Arizona State Thespian Conference in downtown Phoenix featuring a main stage production, dozens of one-act performances, and attend workshops geared toward honing their craft. Students were able to meet and collaborate with students from all over the state. CHS's APAC (Advanced Pantomime and Characterization) students took home a Superior Rating for their One Act titled, "Hammered: A Thor and Loki Play," one of our tech teams came home with 2nd place in one of the Tech Challenges, and 2 of our seniors took home 2 of 6 available scholarships. Nainoa Aguano won a $1,500 scholarship for his monologue/song audition, and Theo McEntire won a $1,500 scholarship for an essay he wrote about why he wants to be a theatre teacher. Additionally, EJ Newton, along with Nainoa Aguano and Theo McEntire, auditioned for college scholarships and were called back by several colleges who are interested in having them attend their schools.

Thirty-eight teachers in CUSD have the NBCT status, and only three percent of certified K-12 teachers teaching in the United States have voluntarily worked towards and ultimately earned the rank of the NBCT title.

Cadets simply brought in loose change (pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters) and did this internally without asking for donations from any of the other classes in the school. Under the direction of Bonnie McNamara, French Honors Society and French Club puts on the program for National French Week every year. This year, it was nicknamed the COLTure Day because they celebrated all the cultures of the Casteel Colts! They had Choir, Band, Project 15 dance, Asian K-Pop and Fan Dances, Folklórico and even a song in German. Exchange students from Norway, Denmark and Spain also shared their experiences.

Casteel students seek to bring awareness and spread the message that there is always someone who cares and who want to help students feel as if they have a safe place to go if they need help.

This year's theme was "BE KIND. THE WORLD NEEDS YOU," and CHS's World Language students and teachers decorated the courtyard with posters and crafts.

The freshmen were asked, "What would you do for an ice cream bar?" and were challenged to choose a fun activity to do with their Link Leader to earn a treat. The freshmen, along with their Link Leaders, did things like give high fives to five people, give piggyback rides, or do the chicken dance. Prevention Coach Sarah Hunter runs the room for students and staff. Teachers can bring their students down for a mindfulness lesson during class time and students can come in before or after school and during lunch.

It was the team's seventh state championship in school history. The Huskies battled a talented Brophy team each day to win by three shots overall. Both teams shot 11 under par the second day.

Sophomore Mahanth Chirravuri came in fourth place to earn All-State honors. Freshman Anawin Pickulthong came in 12th place and senior Ethan Adam came in 16th place. Freshman Ryo Ito and sophomore Nick Lippe were part of the team effort. Other teams members are senior Tyler Biberdorf, junior Alex Paul and sophomores Rohan Singh and Aiden Palermo. Additionally, senior Joy Callinan (pictured) won the girls individual state title.

The students rotated classes/teachers every 20 minutes into a new station to learn something different relating to Dia de los Muertos. The product can be seen on the two wall alters in the upstairs new C-wing. The Spanish teachers put in many hours to prepare for this event and the students enjoyed the cultural experience.

The award is journalism's version of a state championship, and was presented at the Arizona Interscholastic Press Association fall convention. The newspaper won 29 awards for writing, design, cartoons and photography; congratulations goes out to Vivian Duong, Anna Myers, Kenna Cassey, River Bradshaw, Nadine Loureiro, Isabel Behrendt, Grant Sands, Holly Olaszak, Aeneas Zobel, Rhaelyn Mehan and Mea Griffen! Email this item to a friend Open just this item  Divider and spacer Visit Hamilton High Website Report a Problem with Item A007893 Hamilton HighHamilton Chess Team - (2019-2020)  Congratulations to the Hamilton Chess Team for winning the AIA State Team Championship in November! They went with a perfect 5-0 to the tournament, completing their perfect 19-0 season -- the first in school history! As the top-seeded varsity team, Rick Sun, Kenneth Su, Joseph Wang, Michael Chen, and Vincent Sin defeated the second, third, and fourth seeds in three straight matches en route to their title. Their compilation of 54 wins, 2 losses, and 1 tie over the last three seasons has given them their second title in three years, only missing the title last year on tiebreaks. With the chess team only in their fourth season, they have truly accomplished a great feat. In addition, Aryan Eksambe took first in the JV section, and Harry Winsberg also took a top-10 finish. Anvi Joshi, Miro Vanek, and Andrew Quan rounded out yet another strong showing of Hamilton's depth in the JV section, scoring well above expectations.

They placed second overall as a team, and also earned individual awards in both divisions, with Michael Chen taking 6th in Division 1 and Richard Thor taking 2nd in Division 2. Other members of the team included Tristan Ma, James Lee, Sungmin Park, Xenia Zhao, Eddie Zhang, Rick Sun, Alec Gonzalez, Joshua Grumski, Ryan Gan, Feyi Adebekun, and Richard Cheng.

The JA Student Stock Market Challenge is a live stock market simulation, featuring teams of high school students who compete to see who can accumulate the highest possible net worth in their investment portfolio. The exciting, fast-paced event offers a taste of what it's like to build a portfolio, manage risk, and experience its performance in a compressed period of time. Approximately 430 students (86 teams, five students per team) from around 20 valley high schools experienced the thrill of the trading floor at Junior Achievement's 2019 Stock Market Challenge Event. Throughout the week, students participated in themed "VS" days where we had mathletes squaring up against athletes, elders vs. toddlers, cowboys vs. aliens, and more. Friday morning's pep rally kicked off game day, and the celebration continued through lunchtime. As part of Rivalry Week, StuCo worked collectively with Hamilton High to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Chandler High collected $1,627.51 Rivalry Spirit Week 2019 - Photo Album

Seniors met with counselors and college representatives to work on completing college/postsecondary applications, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), and scholarships. Seniors who completed an application and/or the FAFSA were entered to win $1,000 scholarship and many other prizes.
