Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Kindergarten hard work pays off! Kindergarten students and teachers participated in a project-based learning activity where they discussed WHY they need a new, better-designed playground and HOW it should look. Students and staff used thinking maps to process their ideas and create ideas for a new, safe playground. Students wrote letters and created videos that went to district office officials and school principal, Ms. Wolf. These kindergarten leaders found out this month the project was a success! Jacobson will get a new north-side playground this summer!
Bologna Elementary - (2018-2019) Leader in Me Friday Clubs at Bologna Elementary promote leadership and fun. Every teacher and student on campus gets to enjoy one another, form bonds and relationships across grade levels, and hone their skills in various areas (including, but definitely not limited to: Lego STEM, yoga, origami, literature with crafting, crochet, and more).
Chandler Traditional Academy - Independence Campus - (2018-2019) CTA Independence National Elementary Honor Society students toured and visited with Hamilton High social worker Rajani Rastogi. She took them into the Mindfulness room for a session. The students also met with NHS (National Honor Society) students and Husky Helpers. For the past two years, CTA Independence National Elementary Honor Society students have donated gift cards to help homeless and underprivileged students and families at Hamilton.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson Elementary students in Shannan Wright's class had the opportunity to work with Earnest Robinson of the CUSD videography crew and record their "I AM" poems, which highlight their cultural diversity, for the upcoming Equity Symposium, which will reach CUSD teachers and staff as well as surrounding districts.
Knox Gifted Academy - (2018-2019) Knox Gifted Academy held its annual Maker Faire on Friday, May 17. Students in grades kindergarten through sixth shared their design process and innovative ideas from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with lunch on the lawn with their families. There were 200 indoor and outdoor booths, showcasing students' talents.
Tarwater Elementary - (2018-2019) In appreciation for all the love and support they offer all year, we recently honored our amazing parent volunteers with an assembly filled with music, chants -- and even a little magic! Thank you for all you do!

Weinberg Elementary - (2018-2019) Weinberg held our first Literacy Day on Monday, May 13. Families and the community were invited to enjoy a variety of literacy based activities.

Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson Elementary first grade students' culminating activity project and oral presentation for animal habitats was a huge success.
Chandler Traditional Academy - Freedom Campus - (2018-2019) CTA Freedom principal Abby Druck presented each staff member with a little token of appreciation for all the amazing work they do!
Hull Elementary - (2018-2019) Hull 3rd graders put on "Tweet Play" in May.
Hancock Elementary - (2018-2019) Hancock 3rd graders programmed Ozbots with Ozo Blocky to go through an obstacle course they designed.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Thanks to the Basha PTO who celebrated our teachers by organizing Teacher Appreciation Week activities on a Wizard of Oz theme!
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Parent volunteer Laura Taylortaft got Jacobson fourth graders excited about bugs with a metamorphosis investigation activity. The students noted the differences in metamorphosis between butterflies, ladybugs and milkweed bugs and had fun in the process!
Weinberg Elementary - (2018-2019) Weinberg 4th graders visited the State Capitol and had the honor of meeting Representative Jennifer Pawlik.
Weinberg Elementary - (2018-2019) Weinberg 5th graders in Miss Christina Muller's class modeled the eight phases of the moon with Oreo cookies.
Andersen Elementary - (2018-2019) Kindergarten students in Angie Wagner's class were captivated with watching their baby chicks hatch.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Our media specialist invited Obert Skye to visit Basha Elementary and do a presentation for our 3rd- 6th graders. Skye is a bestselling American children's writer known for the Leven Thumps series, the Pillage trilogy, and The Creature from My Closet series. Chandler Traditional Academy - Freedom Campus - (2018-2019) First graders in Tina Linder's class dissect owl pellets.
Hancock Elementary - (2018-2019) Hancock fifth graders tried out the new field at Tonto Creek Camp during their Science Camp Trip.
Shumway Leadership Academy - (2018-2019) Kindergartener's in Susan Murphy's class held a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) activity building airplanes for the ABC 26 day count down. First, they made a plan for the designs and discussed thrust and lift. Next, they tested the airplanes. Some students were disappointed with their product so they redesigned keeping in mind lift. Finally, they tested again and had success.
Hancock Elementary - (2018-2019) Our 6th grade students got a visit from Sun Lakes Rotarians to hear about the problems our neighbors on the Navajo Reservation have with access to clean water and about the global grant our school has been supporting to help bring the Navajo clean, running water. Authentic learning and real world connections are happening in 6th grade!
Hancock Elementary - (2018-2019) Mrs. Hinojosa-Chun 1st and 2nd graders are learning about the life stages of a butterfly by experiencing it firsthand. They released their butterflies in our school garden.
Andersen Elementary - (2018-2019) Kindergarten students enjoy the flowers in the Andersen Elementary school garden.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) The Media Club of Basha Elementary visited the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism.
Hancock Elementary - (2018-2019) Hancock students participated in the Agriculture in the Classroom project and April presentation called "Compost Stew: An A-Z recipe for the Earth."
Tarwater Elementary - (2018-2019) Tarwater Elementary held its annual Art Masterpiece night on April 9. Families enjoyed viewing a variety of works by student artists and students collaborated on the beautiful cherry blossom tree on the outside stage.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Basha Elementary 2nd grade classes hosted a visit from Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke on April 15.
Tarwater Elementary - (2018-2019) Tarwater Elementary held an annual spring barbeque on April 5 to celebate its 20-year anniversary. Bogle Junior High band was on hand to play and families enjoyed the beautiful weather with the school's namesakes, Robert and Danell Tarwater.
Weinberg Elementary - (2018-2019) Weinberg Elementary third graders in Juli Harpole's class were "Secret Agent Detectives" for testing. They created "clue" briefcases to help them remember how to find the clues in the AzMERIT test!
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Thank you to our Jacobson PTO who put on our annual spring carnival on April 5th. A fun time was had by all!
Ryan Elementary - (2018-2019) Ryan Elementary students and staff hosted a visit from Arizona State Senator J.D. Mesnard in April.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Technology teacher (and certified MakerBot specialist) Jessica Pfau teaches students in her STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) class how to select and create objects in CAD. Students in 3rd through 6th grade have successfully printed creative designs, and are pleased with their final projects.
Conley Elementary - (2018-2019) Conley Elementary hosted its first International Day on March 28. Students performed song and dance, created artwork inspired from around the world, and researched and presented different nationalities. Conley families proudly displayed their cultures and stamped student passports. The richness of Conley's diversity brought students, staff, and the community together!
Hancock Elementary - (2018-2019) Patty Chambers' gardening club at Hancock Elementary is learning how to grow their own vegetables. Most recently, their crop consisted of radishes and lettuce.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson Elementary first graders in Valerie Nikolaus' class recently visited Shamrock Farms.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson Chandler Innovation Fair and Hamilton Science and Engineering Fair winners were invited to compete at state-wide AzSEF (Arizona Science and Engineering Fair). Jets fly with pride!
Riggs Elementary - (2018-2019) Saira Urbina's Preschool classroom at Riggs Elementary recently hosted the Arizona Science Center for a lesson on Bugs and Blooms. The students discovered the important relationship between insects and plants, learned about the parts of a plant, and why insects are so important to plants.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson kindergarten students are writers! Students use specific skills to learn the art of writing. Those skills are built upon throughout the years, culminating in sixth grade! We are a school of authors!
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) We are so proud of our third graders: Famous Americans, including explorers, civil rights leaders and entrepreneurs are in the house!
Chandler Traditional Academy - Humphrey Campus - (2018-2019) Teachers planned and created "Camp Crazy Town" for CTA and EPA students who didn't make it to Science Camp. Students made s'mores, participated in group activities and set up tents!

Andersen Elementary - (2018-2019) Andersen Elementary's Community of Readers Day was a huge success. Many volunteers including Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke, ACP athletes and many more showed up to volunteer.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson teachers became CPR certified over their spring break, thanks to the help of Chandler Firefighters!
Chandler Traditional Academy - Freedom Campus - (2018-2019) CTA Freedom 5th grader Gianna Owens sang the National Anthem at the teacher rally.
