Galveston Elementary - (2019-2020) The Family Engagement Team at Galveston Elementary School, held a Movin' On Up Data Night for all families of second graders. Twenty-three enthusiastic families learned and practiced a reading fluency strategy. This reading fluency skill equips families with a research-based strategy with which to assist their child to become a better reader. Childcare was provided, the families became eager, engaged learners, and several left with fun raffle prizes! Families committed to help their child reach a goal set by their family. They left Data Night equipped with support, materials and a better understanding of how to help their child be successful.
Tarwater Elementary - (2019-2020) Thirteen Tarwater Elementary sixth grade girls participated in the Hermanas Event held at Chandler-Gilbert Community college and hosted by Intel. The students participated in various activities to inspire them to go to college and consider a future career in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math). One sixth grader ended the event saying, "I want to go to college. I felt like I was sitting in a college class."
Chandler Traditional Academy - Freedom Campus - (2019-2020) Over 100 students have signed up for CTA Freedom's newly-launched Kindness Club! The students created an act of kindness chain and displayed it for National Kindness Day, Nov. 13. Each link in the chain tells of a personal act of kindness that the students have experienced.

San Marcos Elementary - (2019-2020) Media Specialist Jolene Gallup hosted Arizona Cardinals quarterback (and Chandler High alumni) Brett Hundley for an afternoon of reading. Brett Hundley visited San Marcos for a "Cardinals Milk and Cookies" event. Students danced with Big Red, had story time with Brett Hundley, and enjoyed milk and cookies. San Marcos students left with SMILES, high fives and autographed backpacks. Thank you, Arizona Cardinals, for supporting San Marcos students and encouraging the LOVE of reading!
Andersen Elementary - (2019-2020) Thank you, veterans, for all you do! The Andersen Astronauts enjoyed celebrating you at our Veterans Day Assembly.
Bologna Elementary - (2019-2020) The inaugural Red Ribbon Week Character Picnic at Bologna Elementary was a success. Pictured: Principal Thuy Padilla with a student on "The Day the Crayons Quit."
Galveston Elementary - (2019-2020) Galveston 4th graders enjoyed Water Festival stations at Tumbleweed Park, put on by the City of Chandler and University of Arizona! Hancock Elementary - (2019-2020) Hancock Elementary sixth graders learned about electricity and natural resources from a special guest from SRP in science class.
Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) Over 200 Jacobson students designed stars to honor loved ones who are or were in the military. Third grade teacher Monica Nicol and a team of students created a "Walk of Rememberance" to honor our country's heros. The walking exhibit starts in the front office and continues throughout campus.
Knox Gifted Academy - (2019-2020) What an amazing Veterans Day celebration! It is always such a heartfelt morning that brings tears to all of our eyes as students read original poems and narratives, patriotic songs are sung by all, and Chandler High color guard presents the flag. Each veteran was greeted with a medal of value created by fifth grade students that they were able to wear for the celebration.
Knox Gifted Academy - (2019-2020) Knox Gifted Academy celebrated our annual Fall Festival on November 8. The night included DIY games and activities created by students and families, bouncers, food, dancing, a dunk tank, and throwing pies at your teachers! Such a fun night for our community to enjoy. There are always so many KGA alumni that attend, as well, that makes it an even more special night!
Chandler Traditional Academy - Independence Campus - (2019-2020) CTA Independence invited the friends and family members of our students who have served or currently serving our country to celebrate. Students shared poems and essays that they wrote honoring our veterans. The 4th grade students also sang songs paying tribute to each branch of the military. Veterans Day Celebration - November 2019
Chandler Traditional Academy - Liberty Campus - (2019-2020) Liberty celebrates their veterans with pride! Mr. Anthony Smith, principal, led the school in a salute to over 45 veterans visiting Liberty for our Veterans Day 2019 celebration. The salute included 4th, 5th and 6th graders sharing their essays and poems, 1st and 2nd graders reading the Veterans Day Proclamation, and visiting KSLX DJ, Mr. Mark Devine, announcing the veterans names and branch of service. Liberty also recognized our veterans who are no longer with us in a Field of Remembrance. We thank all of our veterans and their families for their service. Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) Sixth grade leaders work with kindergarten buddies for a sweet cause! Stacy Thompson's kindergarten and Kelly Murrieta's 6th grade buddy classes found a way to make leftover Halloween candy something to learn from. Teams of two worked together to sort, count and label the candy before it was all donated to the Chandler Care Center. (OK, maybe not ALL the candy...)
Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) Fourth through sixth grade Jacobson Gifted Program (JGP) students participate in "Design Squad" engineering projects weekly! This week, students are collaborating to design and build bridges able to support the weight of at least 2,000 grams of pennies! The JGP is designed to challenge the gifted student through a multi-dimensional teaching approach involving special curricula, enrich-ment and the acceleration of course content.
Hancock Elementary - (2019-2020) Hancock 3rd graders learn about how to create their own Picasso in Art Masterpiece.
Andersen Elementary - (2019-2020) Andersen 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Richardson organized and brought the ASU women's basketball team to present their Character Code assembly to the 3rd-5th grade students. Sparky joined in on the fun, too!
Haley Elementary - (2019-2020) Haley Elementary Student Council dressed for healthy food tasting put on by the Central Kitchen.
Haley Elementary - (2019-2020) Haley Elementary's APEX Fun Run was the culmination of the school's one and only fundraiser. Not only did they raise a ton money for the school, the APEX lessons were focused upon building powerful student leaders while promoting fitness at the school.

Hull Elementary - (2019-2020) Second graders at Hull Elementary researched a particular bat species, created a blueprint, and received STEM criteria and constraints to build their bat within 30 minutes! All students did a great job collaborating and working as a team.
Hull Elementary - (2019-2020) Hull Elementary had some amazing storybook pumpkins brought in by families. Students created pumpkins based on their favorite storybook characters.

Sanborn Elementary - (2019-2020) Sanborn Elementary staff dressed up as 101 dalmations on Halloween. Principal Caryn Cole was Cruella de Vil, and Dean Torie Brown was the Dog Catcher. The kids loved it at drop-off in the morning.
Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) Jacobson third grade students in Hannah Henry and Michelle Monaco's third-grade classes have a day of learning with Monsters Inc.!
Basha Elementary - (2019-2020) Basha Elementary's Technology Department is proud to implement zSpace, an AR/VR (Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality) learning experience to increase engagement and meet educational standards in science, math, reading, technology and MORE! Tarwater Elementary - (2019-2020) Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders and mascot "Big Red" were at the Tarwater Elementary Fall Festival on Friday, November 1!

Frye Elementary - (2019-2020) Angelica Abbey's 6th graders went "Math or Treating" today! Kids got to choose the review math problem, and earn whichever prize it corresponded with!
Frye Elementary - (2019-2020) Emilirose Robinson's second graders learn a poem every week and present it to the other students!
Riggs Elementary - (2019-2020) Riggs 3rd graders started a gardening project to promote healthy choices. Research shows school gardens have a positive impact on student learning, health, and nutrition. They teach good eating habits, science, math, and business skills. They also introduce students to new and healthy foods -- and get students moving and outside. A hydroponic garden tower was donated by Benita Riesgraf, a Chandler mom, thanks to a grant she received from Changex.org and the Arizona Sustainability Alliance. The program, "Sow It Forward," empowers teachers and students to learn about food growth and the importance of having access to fresh fruits and vegetables. We will have the tower until Thanksgiving, at which time the seedlings will be transplanted into our community garden. Students planted the following plants in the Tower Garden: Sweet Basil, Arugula, Bib Lettuce, Gourmet Lettuce, Black Magic Dino Kale.
Galveston Elementary - (2019-2020) Tana Miller's third grade class read a story about bats and then used animal research to create these awesome bat habitats!
Galveston Elementary - (2019-2020) Galveston Elementary students celebrated Unity Day on Wednesday, Oct. 23. October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and Unity Day is a day in which students unite and wear orange to stand up against bullying and unite in kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Ryan Elementary - (2019-2020) The Royals Flag Troop has a special job at Ryan Elementary. These students have volunteered to serve our school by performing the Reveille and Retreat ceremonies; the raising and lowering of the school's American and Arizona flags. In doing this, they practice traditions that have existed since the American Revolution. When our troop members perform their duties, they do so with pride and respect. They know our flags honor all those who served, those who continue to serve and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Not just in the military, but all those Americans who serve our nation, our state, our community and our Constitution of the United States. Ryan Elementary - (2019-2020) Ryan Elementary students and staff held a going-away assembly for Canine Companions for Independence dog Kai and his friends.

Knox Gifted Academy - (2019-2020) Knox Gifted Academy fifth graders did an amazing job last week with their student written plays. Thank you to Kristin Moran and our performing arts program for making their ideas and stories come to life!
Carlson Elementary - (2019-2020) We had a very successful Boo Bash, sponsored by our Carlson PTO. Students had a blast "trunk or treating" and playing games!
