Basha High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Basha High Early Childhood seniors who applied and tested for the National Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential. All nine passed the exam and verification observation/interview, earning their credential! Additionally, they collectively were awarded almost $4,000 in scholarships to cover the entire cost of the certification.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Will Kemper won the Chandler High School Alumni $1,000 Scholarship by submitting a terrific one-minute video explaining what being a Wolf means to him. He captured it beautifully! YouTube video: What it means to be a Chandler Wolf
Casteel High - (2018-2019) Casteel Junior High Academic Pentathlon, under the direction of Sheila Wilson, finished fifth overall at nationals in Nashville Tennessee. Additional awards include:
- Ajay Maslanka - Bronze in Math, 4th in Science and 9th overall in Honors
- Tiara Furukawa - 4th in Social Science and 8th overall in Scholastic division
- Kendall Smith - 4th in Literature and 8th overall in Varsity division
- Ernie Clark - 4th in Science and Math
- Steven Donaldson - 4th in Science
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Ninety-one Chandler High seniors have earned a Seal of Biliteracy on their diplomas and reflected on their transcripts. The seal was created to reward high school students who were proficient in English and at least one other language as evidenced by their performance on a state board approved assessment.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Chandler High celebrated the accomplishments of 25 AVID graduating seniors during the AVID Senior Celebration and banquet. The seniors, many of whom have been a part of the college-prep elective for four years, have all been accepted to four-year universities and have earned over $350,000 in scholarship offers.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Abby Liu, Ella Ai and Thalia Liu! Out of over 1,800 high school students from more than 80 countries, regions, and territories around the world competing May 12 - 17 in Phoenix at the prestigious 2019 International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the team of Abby, Ella and Thalia won 4th place overall in the category of Biomedical Engineering and $500 for their project titled Identifying Key Pathways/Mechanisms for the Generation of Pancreatic Beta Cells by Trans-differentiation of Acinar Cells. 2019 ISEF Grand Award winners
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Mindy Long! Out of over 1,800 high school students from more than 80 countries, regions, and territories around the world competing May 12 - 17 in Phoenix at the prestigious 2019 International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the Mindy won 4th place overall in the category of Biomedical Engineering and $500 for her project titled A Smartphone-Based, Point-of-Care Iron Sensor Utilizing Colorimetric Techniques. 2019 ISEF Grand Award winners
Basha High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Matthew Tucker will graduate from Basha High with perfect attendance (no instances of absence or tardies) over the course of his entire 13 year academic career, remaining diligent and focused on attending and participating in school every day. He ranks 20th in his graduating class and earned a 4.675 GPA. Matthew was awarded the AP + PLTW (Project Lead The Way) Achievement for earning qualifying scores on a combination of three Advanced Placement Exams and Project Lead the Way end-of-course assessments in the Engineering Pathway. He also earned a Career and Technical Education (CTE) certificate in Engineering Sciences, taking four AP courses and the five associated AP tests for those classes. A recipient of the Presidential Scholarship at ASU, Matthew has been accepted into Barrett, the Honors College in pursuit of a Robotics Engineering degree. Basha High Seniors Highlights
Chandler Online Academy - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Victoria Wilson is a senior at Chandler Online Academy who has done so much outside of the traditional school setting. She has not only completed her traditional course work, but she has also completed the Veterinary Assistant Program at EVIT (East Valley Institute of Technology), and she attended and completed a program at the Academy of Equine Dentistry in Idaho. Attending online school has allowed Victoria to keep a rigorous academic course load and be very involved in her passion of working with horses. On top of all these accomplishments, she also received an appointment to the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY! We are so proud of Victoria and all she has done, but we cannot wait to see all that she will continue to do. The sky is the limit for this young lady! Chandler Online Academy Seniors Highlights
Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2018-2019) We are excited to announce that Mrs. Rachna Nath was selected as an Honorable Mention for the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators 2019, sponsored by the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for 2019. Casteel High - (2018-2019) Ms. Bandin's 10th grade geometry students went to I-Fly for their STEM field trip, which included a hands-on lesson in terminal velocity and indoor skydiving.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Chandler High's Native American Seniors were honored at a CUSD banquet on May 3, 2019.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) The Wolf Howl publication team attended a Journalism Education Association convention and participated in a Write-off Competition in Anaheim, California. Two Chandler High students were honored among 3,500 attendees from around the world with two impressive awards. Congratulations to Kailey Shupe for earning Excellent in Commentary Writing, and Selena Haggerty for earning Honorable Mention in Literary Magazine: Poetry.

Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Jessica Hogan who was named the Sun Lakes Rotary Sandy Lundberg Educator of the Year for 2019. This award recognizes and rewards excellence in education as reflected in the school district and the general community.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Christian Weninger is a member of the Hamilton High Class of 2019. He has been extremely active on campus, participating in DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), Motivational Outreach Organization and FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) Fashion Club. Christian is a persevering entrepreneur and has already established a business where students can display and share their artwork on his online magazine. His company also sells clothing along with planning fashion shows across the valley. Christian is outgoing and conveys his astonishing personality on campus and with everyone he meets. Perry High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Riley McKenna, Emily Pearce, and Ashton Blake who were among 16 recipients of the "Friends of the Library" Scholarship awards on May 4 at the Southeast Regional Library. The students were awarded $1,000 each to put toward furthering their education.
Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Arizona College Prep's Mackenzie Hanson puts 110% into everything she does. She has helped to develop the DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) program on ACP's campus and is currently a DECA State Officer. Competing at both state and national levels, she has earned 1st place in Buying and Merchandising Operation Research Event at the State Career Development Conference. She also received the DECA Speakers Bureau Award. Mackenzie also achieved athletic honors as a four-year varsity athlete. She has been recognized as Arizona All Academic Cross Country First Team, Soccer Player of the Game and Track MVP. She is consistently polite to teachers and classmates and is always willing to help her fellow students when they need help. Maryssa is a great student, maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Rebecca Ray has been concert master for the Casteel Chamber Orchestra all four years, taking our school to Regionals for four years and two years to State. She has maintained a 4.56 GPA while taking a full course load of AP classes. Rebecca is a multi-talented student who is able to shine both academically and musically. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Bryce Mortensen consistently exemplifies the three Cs of Courage, Character and Commitment. Bryce has not missed a wrestling practice in three years and is always the last to leave a facility, cleaning up any trash and leaving the the place better than he found it. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Madison Officer is consistent in her efforts in calculus as she diligently works and tutors others in the class. She is generous, goal oriented, and positive. Madison has a 4.2 GPA while taking multiple AP classes. In addition to being an outstanding student academically, she also shines artistically in sculpture. Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Casteel High senior Austin Ponsness has a true gift for working with individuals with special needs. He treats everyone as his best friend and appears equally happy whether on the basketball and volleyball court or working in the special needs classroom as a peer facilitator. Austin is comfortable in his own skin and non-judgmental of others with differences. Austin understands and embraces the hard work necessary to be successful and achieve one's goals. Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2018-2019) Our College and Career Specialist Mrs. Paula Dalton received recognition from the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education in partnership with the Governor's Office for Education and Achieve60AZ for helping to ensure our senior families completed the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). As a school site, ACP Erie had a 77% completion rate -- which is WAY above the state average!
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Akshay Murali has been very involved on campus. He is in the top 20% of his class and has accomplished much in his two years as a Hamilton Husky. He is the vice president of ASCE (American Society Of Civil Engineers) Club and the USA Computing Olympiad. Akshay also participated in Robotics Club and served as treasurer and statistical analyst for Interact. He recently placed 3rd at the Arizona Science and Engineering Fair (AzSEF) in Environmental Engineering. Moreover, Akshay has been very active in the community, volunteering at Feed My Starving Children every week. Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Susan Martin is a National Merit Finalist, Distinguished Scholar and an AP Scholar with Distinction. Susan's commitment to academics doesn't stop with her. She is the president of Arizona College Prep's Tutor Club, pairing students with peer mentors, scheduling times and places for them to meet. Susan is also involved in several clubs and organizations on campus: Spanish Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, National Honor Society, Comic Club and Mu Alpha Theta Club. Amazingly, she still has time to dedicate to playing the oboe in ACP's orchestra. Next year, Susan will attend University of North Texas. ACP Erie Seniors Highlights
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Kenneth Applegate, Chandler High junior, scored a perfect 36 on the ACT! To put Kenny's achievement in perspective, of the more than 2 million students who took the exam nationally last year, only 2,760 achieved a perfect score. Kenny has a 4.67 GPA, maintains straight A's in all of his classes (including four AP), and plays in the CHS Chamber Orchestra.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) The International Baccalaureate (IB) Boosters held a banquet last week to celebrate the accomplishments of the IB Diploma and Career Program candidates. This is the largest IB graduating class at CHS with 48 Diploma candidates and 18 Career Program candidates. The theme of the banquet was "The World Awaits" with a message to the students and parents to be proud of what they've accomplished and to keep striving to make a difference in the world.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Students Jerry Sun (Cornell-bound senior), Travis Zhang (Junior), and Daniel Hsu (ASU-bound senior) are playing a pivotal role as CUSD prepares for the inaugural Summer Equity Symposium - Breaking Barriers for Excellence. The students utilized their coding and tech skills to create an app for symposium attendees. The Breaking Barriers for Excellence app will help the event run smoothly by providing easy access to information about schedules, speakers, and sessions.
Perry High - (2018-2019) Perry DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) students stood out at the International competition in Orlando with 22,000 other DECA members from around the world. Paige Adams, Emily Asanagasti and CJ Parisian helped with an international officer campaign earning high praise and special praise was given to CJ for being team captain. CJ also was awarded a $1,000 AZ DECA scholarship! The Puma Den again earned International Gold Certification for retail operations. Amber Adams (Arizona DECA State Officer) finished in the top 20% for her event. And finally, Yejin Sohn earn a medal for finishing in the top 10% for her event test and finished in the top 20% overall.
Perry High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Perry students McKenna Branting, Ashley Greenlee, Brennan Acevedo and Christopher Cutruzzula who were honored at the first-ever Arizona STEM Signing Day held on April 30. Boeing recognized excelling STEM talent at the event in front of Boeing corporate leaders, local elected officials and community partners, including the Mayor of Mesa and the Arizona Board of Regents. Just like Signing Day for athletes, the inaugural Arizona STEM Signing Day celebrates students across the state as they make their commitments to education programs focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Casteel High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to the Casteel DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) chapter on their amazing success at their first International Career Development Conference (ICDC) competition in Orlando in April. Sam Perez was one of 15 students from Arizona who qualified for finals, was recognized for a top role-play, and placed in the top 10 overall in Professional Selling against over 200 other competitors from around the world. The Casteel chapter also received an award for having the highest percentage increase in chapter membership from last year to this year in all of Arizona! Chandler Early College - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Koen Symalla came to Chandler Early College as a freshman and has been a consistent performer academically as well as a model citizen representative of the student body. In addition to CEC, Koen has attended East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) for the last year, studying Emergency Medicine. Recently, he and a partner competed in the Emergency Medical Technician portion of the Arizona HOSA Competition. The event consisted of two rounds. The first round involved a multiple choice and written test. In the second round, the two showcased their hands-on skills. Not only did the pair score the highest written score of the event, but the duo ultimately took 1st place overall in the state. The pair will now head to Orlando in June for the HOSA International Leadership Conference. After high school, Koen plans on attending the Pima Medical Institute to become a paramedic. Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Kamal Shaik has been awarded the National Honor Society Scholarship recognizing his commitment to service, leadership, and character. Kamal is involved in several leadership positions on campus and is co-captain and a four-year varsity athlete on the tennis team. This year, he advanced to the quarterfinals of the AIA State Doubles Tennis Tournament. Kamal is planning on studying Biological Sciences (Biomedical Sciences) and Business in college.
