Chandler High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Chandler High junior Casey Likes who won Best Vocalist and Best Male Lead for his role in Les Miserables. The last award makes Casey eligible for the National Jimmy Awards, so ASU Gammage is flying him to New York City June 16-25 where he will be representing Arizona and CHS at the national awards competition! Chandler High - (2018-2019) Annika Lagos, Jaden Juarez, Saachi Poddar, Lila Patel, Yvette Mejia, and Trey Lewis have their work on display at Art Intersection in downtown Gilbert. This is a great honor, as there were over 900 entries and only 80 pieces were chosen to be included.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Giselle Dominguez, a Chandler High senior, was a Finalist for the 2019 Congressional Art Show and will have her artwork hung in Congressman Greg Stanton's office until September.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Katherine Chou, a Chandler High junior, was a runner up for the 2019 Congressional Art Show, and her work will hang in Greg Stanton's office until the end of May.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Sakina Buycks signed letters of intent to be part of the Aztec Diamonds Dance Team at San Diego State University.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Jennalynn Fung has been selected as a contributor for the 2019 edition of Apprentice Writer. Her photography piece, Fantasies Woven in Thread, will appear in the publication this fall. Apprentice Writer received student submissions from nearly 20 countries in this 37th year of publication.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Hamilton sophomore Jessica Zhang who was selected by the University of South Carolina as one of the 20 best young pianists from across the U.S. and has been invited to participate in the 17th annual Southeastern Piano Festival June 16-23. Participants will take daily lessons with university piano faculty, attend master classes with guest artists who are among the world's top pianists and practice up to five hours a day. The festival culminates with the Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition featuring $9,000 in cash prizes. Jessica has studied piano since the age of six and has won multiple piano awards. Basha High - (2018-2019) Basha High choirs, Noteworthy, Counterpoint and High Impact, earned three Superior ratings in National Music in the Parks competition at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. In addition, High Impact, Basha High School's Show Choir, won the Overall Choir award, with the highest score in the competition. Robyn Amans directs the Basha High choirs.
Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Alexia Stewart values higher level learning and is never fearful of a challenge. She is courageous about working through any obstacles that confront her. She is an outstanding member of our school community and assists others by working as a Peer Facilitator. Alexia is also a member of both the band and choir programs at Casteel. Casteel High - (2018-2019) Casteel High's chorale students recently traveled to New York with their teacher, Cami Clausen. They were participated in a private clinic with a cast member from Mean Girls (Broadway show) who taught them a dance combo and a Broadway music director who gave Broadway tips and taught harmonies from the show. They performed at Queen's College for an adjudication panel who gave Casteel a 98/100 and said they had "something special." They performed with other top choirs from around US and Canada in a Nationals choir at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Dr. Z Randall Stroope.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) The following Hamilton actors and technicians qualified as Top Ten Finalists in the Arizona High School Musical Theatre Awards (local High School Tony Awards) for Little Women the Musical! Winners will be announced after our performance at ASU Gammage on May 24. Dashaun Dunn and Sophia Donnell are also eligible to win an all-expense paid trip to represent Arizona at the National High School Theatre Awards in New York.

Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Destinee McCaster is heavily involved in both school and community theatre, winning Superiors and several first places for group, duo and solo performances and directing. Destinee placed first at the Chandler Film Festival for her Public Service Announcement. Her college submission short film on mental health won several awards. She is currently serving as president for both Drama Club and Film Club, as well as vice president of Urban Lemmings, an improv troupe. Destinee enjoys volunteering at the East Maricopa County Dog Shelter. She plans to attend USC in the fall. Hamilton High Seniors Highlights
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Ellen Napolitano won the 2018-2019 Jerome McDonough Arizona State Playwright competition. She is the current president of National Charity League (NCL) San Tan Chapter and has been an NCL volunteer for six years. Ellen attended Teen Leadership Academy her junior year and had the opportunity to intern with the Chandler Mayor for a week. Ellen represented Hamilton at Arizona Girls State this year. Casteel High - (2018-2019) The Casteel High School Symphonic Band and Symphonic Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Drew Eary, traveled to Chicago, Illinois to participate in the 2019 Heritage Music Festival. They earned first place wins with Gold and Silver Ratings.
Casteel High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Tyler Christensen is one of only handful of students in the state who have been selected through audition as a four-year All-Stater for choir. He is the number one bass in the state this year. He plans to pursue music in college. Tyler is a hard worker and a gifted teacher. He currently student-teaches the junior high advanced choir, and they respond very well to his leadership, humor, and musical know-how. Tyler has held a leading role in every musical during his 4 years here. He is a gifted actor in our company theatre program and is also is a successful playwright. Tyler served as the Casteel marching band's drum major (conductor) during his sophomore year. He plays several instruments and is an all-around top-notch musician and performer. She's been a leader in the program since the first day and has been Drum Major for the Colt Marching Band for the last two years. As an aspiring artist, I have learned to experiment, to take risks, and be to content with my 'mistakes' by finding ways to turn them into 'intentional' abstractions and stylized strokes. Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Zachary Killmer participated with the Hamilton High School jazz band on drum set, but outside of school this year, he has been a part of the Scottsdale Community College (SCC) big band as well as an SCC jazz combo, both on drums. Additionally, Zachary was one of three drummers nationwide selected to participate in Berkley's College of Music Master Summit where he got to play with Jeff Coffin from the Dave Matthews band and also work with drummer Chester Thompson. Perry High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Perry students Alyssa Diaz (Moveo Dance Company) and Maddie Witten (Advanced Dance) on making the NAU Dance Team.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Hamilton Orchestra auditions were held for the 2019 Arizona All-State Orchestra. Hamilton orchestra students did well overall, with six accepted (Grace Zhang, Zocelyne Kow, Christine Lee, Brandon Tang, Ryan Widjaja and Colin Guan) and one first alternate. These exceptional musicians will participate in the upcoming festival at NAU, April 11-13. This achievement represents the highest honor an Arizona high school musician can earn.

Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Makayla Casillas has been a four year member of Hamilton Dance Company (HDC), is a 4.0 student, and is the President of HDC. She was part of the 5th place USA Nationals Hip Hop team, is a UDA (Universal Dance Association) National Dance Team Championship Finalist in Jazz and Hip Hop, has won State in Jazz for the past four years, and Hip Hop for three years. Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Sophia Donnell has been a bright star on the Hamilton stage for the past four years. Some of her iconic roles over the years included Fiona in Shrek, the Musical, Rose Alvarez in Bye, Bye Birdie, and Jo March in Little Women, the Musical. During her time with the department she has earned many honors at various theatre competition and festivals for both her vocal performance and acting. Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Grace Woodford has been a member of Hamilton Dance Company for the past two years, she is a UDA (Universal Dance Association) National Dance Team Championship Finalist in Jazz and Hip Hop, has won State in Jazz for the past two years, and Hip Hop for the current year. Basha High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Brielle Raymond is a hardworking and passionate student who has been an active leader in the choir program at Basha High School for the past four years. Brielle has been in six different choirs, including Noteworthy, Basha's highest choir, for the past two years. Her senior year, Brielle has become Choir President and accomplished many things, such as leading three choir concerts when her teacher was unable to be there. She also is proud of her senior project where she put on a show at Sozo Coffeehouse to raise money for music resources. Brielle plans to pursue her music career at CGCC and ASU, where she wants to study music education and become a choir director. Basha High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Timothy "Timmy" Petersen helps his mother and grandmother with their catering business, Joanne's Catering, by preparing meals, serving at events, and delivering weekly meals. Through this experience, he has learned the importance of communication as well as being professional and organized. While at BHS, he participated in two musicals, Legally Blonde and Grease, was involved in GSA and won an FFA (Future Farmers of America) Food and Service award. In college, he plans to study astronomy and physics and is looking forward to possible studying abroad. Basha High Seniors Highlights
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Senior Jennalynn Fung, one of Merle McKinnon's AP photo students was recognized by the Region-at-Large program of the 2019 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The alumni of this alliance include luminaries such as Andy Warhol, Richard Avedon, Idelle Weber, Ken Burns, Paul Chan and Kay Walkingstick. This year nearly 340,000 works were submitted. Basha High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Kana Li is a senior at Basha High School. She has maintained a 4.33 cumulative GPA throughout her academic career. Kana is a member of National Honor Society, National Honor Society for Dance Arts, and is the President of Kismet Dance Company at Basha High. Kana will be majoring in Biomedical Sciences at Arizona State University to pursue her goal of becoming a veterinarian. Basha High Seniors Highlights
Basha High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Stefani Montreuil is a senior at Basha High School this year. She is involved in National Honors Society, Show Choir, HOSA (formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America), BSU (Black Student Union), and The Unified Club. Basha High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Marissa Edwards moved from Pittsburgh to Arizona the beginning of her sophomore year. She immediately became involved at Basha High School. She holds various leadership positions, such as: president of the Asian Cultural Ethics Club (ACE) during her junior and senior year, music mentor for the Accelerated Middle School for two years, and drum major of the marching band. She is also active in the National Honor Society, Basha Flute Choir, Basha Indoor Percussion Ensemble, teaching flute lessons, choreographing dances for ACE club, while balancing a full schedule of AP Classes. Basha High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Dannielle Tumpap is currently on her sixth year at Basha High -- not as a super, super senior but as a former Basha Accelerated Middle School student. Dannielle has been involved in a variety of different clubs and programs. She participated in orchestra since starting her journey as a Basha Bear, constantly repping her fellow violists, which she likes to refer to as the "underdogs of the ensemble." Her time has also been spent leading clubs like ITS (International Thespian Society), Tri-M, Orchestra Council, and H4H as well as being a part of Link Crew and National Honor Society while managing to stay in the top of her class. Dannielle's favorite moments have included performing in several shows, like Lady Dracula and Les Miserables, joining the improv team (Sudden Impact Comedy Improv), and singing for the ACE showcase every year. Basha High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Nick MacGregor is currently studying Jazz Performance with an emphasis in percussion at Arizona State University in Tempe. He also marches at the Academy Drum and Bugle Corps in the 2019 world class DCI (Drum Corps International) circuit. Nick spends time producing, making music, performing, and teaching lessons as an independent private lessons instructor and is also a multi-instrumentalist. He has a 3.8 GPA and takes half of his classes at school so he can perform and master his craft. Basha High Seniors Highlights
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Makayla Casillas and Grace Woodford of Hamilton Dance Company made the Arizona State University Dance Team for the 2019-2020 season. Additionally, Jaden Stubbs of Hamilton Junior Company and Pom has made Grand Canyon University Dance Team for the 2019-2020 season.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Please join us in congratulating seniors Karsen Burke and Mady Quinn, students in Kim Brown's AP Studio Art:3-D Design Portfolio class. Karsen won 1st place in the 3D category with his shrine to the five elements at the Tempe Festival of the Arts. Mady won 2nd place with her portrait of Post Malone also in the 3D category.

Perry High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Perry Theatre. After competing in the Arizona Thespian Festival and the Central Arizona Festival for Theatre, Perry won the state championship! The AIA Central Region Championship for the school year is determined by point accumulation throughout the year from State and Regional competitions. Honors include the 2018-2019 State All-Star Ranking , All-State School (top ranked program in the state for participation in Theatre Events within Arizona) and Gold Honor Troupe.

Basha High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Ethan LaBelle is an outstanding Musician. During the school year, Ethan plays trombone, baritone and saxophone. For summers, he has opportunities to travel playing euphonium. During the summer of 2018 he traveled with Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps. In the summer of 2019, he will travel with Arizona Academy Drum and Bugle Corps. In addition to talent within music, Ethan is an outstanding scholar. Chandler High - (2018-2019) Chandler High Theatre and Dance students traveled to New York City for five days where they saw three Broadway shows and took workshops with Broadway professionals. Additionally, the group toured the city including the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, Freedom Tower, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Station, exclusive backstage tours of Radio City and the Lincoln Center, and so much more!
Perry High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Perry High Advanced Dance, winning a rating of Distinction and Superior in Performance at the Arizona High School Dance Festival 2019 in March.
Perry High - (2018-2019) Perry High School received the Arizona Thespian's High School Theatre Program ranking of All-State Superior. Of all the schools that are a part of Arizona Thespians (more than 100), Perry High was one of only four theatre programs to obtain this ranking.
Perry High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Emily Wright is in the top 6% of the Senior Class and has been in Performance Theater for three years. Emily has been involved in six plays while at Perry and has performed plays at, and volunteers for, the Actors Youth Theater off campus. Emily is a member of the NHS, Students United Under Modern Movement (SUMM) and helps with voter registration drives. Emily has been taken ASL for four years and plans on attending the UofA where she will work on her Deaf Education degree in Educational Sign Language Interpreting. Perry High Seniors Highlights
Perry High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Ryann Neubauer is a member of the Perry Company Performance Theater group and has been involved in over eight plays while at Perry. Perry High - (2018-2019) SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Vanessa Chang is a STEM Scholar, AP Scholar and in the top 1% of the Senior class. She is in Symphonic Band and was Principal Oboe at the All State Music Festival 2019. Vanessa plans on attending Purdue University where she will major in Computer Science.
