Maxwell Bregman
SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Max Bregman's natural leadership ability is reflected in his being selected as county representative for Boys State in Arizona, leading 90 boys to organize and develop the best county possible. He was captain of the varsity tennis team and coaches and volunteers for many organizations. Max exhibits creativity and motivation for product design and development, and was the founder and president of LaunchX, an entrepreneurial club providing a platform for high schoolers to create a business. Active in Model United Nations and as a committee leader, they won regional awards. Max is also a magician and runs a DJ and photography entertainment business. He was named a national winner of the Most Valuable Student Elks Foundation Scholarship. He was also awarded the Flinn Foundation Scholarship, President's Scholarship, USAA Collegiate Scholarship, and the Chandler Education Foundation (CEF) Impact and Bogle Family scholarships. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:  Aslen Caldwell is a senior at Arizona College Prep - Erie. Aslen has a passion for social justice, health and wellness, and animal rights. She is a volunteer at Gathering Humanity, an organization that provides refugee relocation assistance. Aslen is also a nationally recognized athlete, and was a member of USA's Team Vanity, a senior level 5 All-Star cheerleading team that was ranked 10th in the world at the 2018 Cheerleading Worlds Finals. Gold Honor Troupe
Hamilton Theatre was honored by the Arizona Thespians as a Gold Honor Troupe in recognition for the many activities and opportunities provided for students, as well as contributions to the school and surrounding community. To qualify as a Gold Honor Troupe, the highest honor, Hamilton Theatre had five or more public audience productions, 20 or more thespian activities (socials, workshops, field trips to see shows, etc.), and six or more school and community service activities. Reaching this designation would not have been possible without the support of the staff and administration at Hamilton and the help of all of the Hamilton community.

California Aerospace Trip
As part of the fifth annual California Aerospace trip, 11 Basha High AFJROTC cadet leaders spent four days visiting such locations as SpaceX, the Griffith Observatory, the Space Shuttle Endeavour at the California Science Center, March Field and Palm Springs Air Museums and the Reagan Presidential Library. This exciting trip enabled cadets to greatly expand their knowledge and understanding of aviation as well as space exploration.

Chandler High senior Stefana Jelacic became the second female in Arizona history to qualify for the boys championship wrestling tournament by finishing second place at sectionals. Jelacic is the reigning 118-pound girls state champion and chose to wrestle against boys this year. She will compete at the state tournament beginning this Friday in Prescott Valley.

Hamilton High won state championships in Div. 1-3 Dance (Large) and Varsity Jazz (Small) at the Arizona State Cheerleading/Pom Tournament held on February 7 and 8 in the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum. This marks Hamilton's seventh straight win in the jazz competition. Hamilton also picked up two 2nd place awards, in Div. 1-3 Varsity Hip Hop (Small) and Div. I Varsity Pom (Large).

Private Pilot Scholarship
Hamilton Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC) cadets were selected for the Air Force Chief of Staff Private Pilot Scholarship Program. Senior Ryker Talbott and juniors Zac Plamondon, Sierra Munroe, Sophia Navarro, and Neil Rastogi were identified in the January 17 announcement from Headquarters AFJROTC. This highly competitive scholarship, valued at over $22,500, is an all-expense-paid flight training program administered by Headquarters AFJROTC. The program will be conducted during the summer at 15 select partner universities across the country. Two hundred seventy AFJROTC cadets were competitively selected from over 2,500 applicants from the 125,000+ Air Force JROTC cadets attending 900 high schools across the country and at Department of Defense installations worldwide. Attendees will receive comprehensive, FAA-certified ground instruction and over 40 hours of flight instruction, giving each student the opportunity to earn an FAA Private Pilot Certificate (private pilot license).

At the Arizona Association of Student Councils State Convention in January, ACP Erie Student Government earned recognition as an Outstanding Council of Distinction. This honor is very prestigious, and only a handful of councils in the state earn this recognition. Additionally, the Council earned a Gold level distinction for charitable contributions and Bronze level distinction for service project hours completed. We are extremely proud of the efforts that the Student Government puts forward all year long to improve our school's climate and culture, and for their motivation to provide the student body with the best possible experience.

Chandler High Student Council traveled to Buena High School in Sierra Vista to attend the annual Arizona Association of Student Council State Convention. StuCo members were inspired by several keynote speakers to have 20/20 vision as a leader. Students also had a great time networking with over 2,000 other student council members from across the state. Academic Decathlon
Hamilton High's academic decathlon team once again upheld their reputation as one of the top programs in the State, by winning the final tournament to determine the regional competition. Students competed on college-level material in seven core subjects in addition to delivering both a prepared and an impromptu speech, participating in an interview, and writing an essay. Their thematic topic this year is "Health and Wellness" with a science focus on the biology of cancer.

Students in the competition worked with a local chef to create school lunches that were appealing and desirable, while meeting nutritional and budgetary restrictions of the National School Lunch Program. Each team spent months testing and costing recipes with the help of Blue Watermelon Project chefs to better understand the challenge schools face everyday: how to provide delicious, nutritious and affordable lunches to students. Casteel High students won THREE of the top ten awards in the statewide Arizona Educational Foundation 2020 Polly Rosenbaum Writing contest! Congratulations to Morgan Longacre who took 1st place and Charlie Slade who took 2nd in the 9th & 10th grade category, and Lilly Marx who tied for third place in the 7th & 8th grade category. The creative writing contest is named for former Arizona House Representative and teacher, Polly Rosenbaum, who passed away in 2003 at the age of 104. She believed Arizona's young people are the state's greatest resource. This year's writing prompt was, "What ideas do you have for citizens to actively engage in their communities?" Lois Emshoff
Chandler High School Badminton coach Lois Emshoff was selected as 2019 National Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coaches Association for the 2018-19 school year. Emshoff was a groundbreaking coach in badminton, having been a part of the sport for over 50 years, and was one of the catalysts in bringing it to the AIA. The Regeneron Science Talent Search, the nation's oldest and most prestigious STEM competition, "provides students a national stage to present original research and celebrates the hard work and novel discoveries of young scientists who are bringing a fresh perspective to significant global challenges." They were selected from 1,993 applications received from 659 high schools across 49 states, and chosen based on their exceptional research skills, commitment to academics, innovative thinking and promise as scientists.
