Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2019-2020) The following 12 Knights have earned the title of Commended Students in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship program, based on their 2018 PSAT/NMSQT scores: Parsa Amini, Ian Booth, Angelina Brasen, Jon-Luc Bryant, Junyi Gao, Mia Gomez, Matthew Kearney, Dawson Moulesong, Ivy Nguyen, Thomas Obrenovich, Michelle Yao, and Natasha Zimmerman. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scores out of 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2018 exam.
Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2019-2020) Publishers of "The American Srbobran," the longest-running, continually published Serbian newspaper worldwide, selected an article by ACP's Katarina Marceta to publish. Her article highlighted another ACP Erie student, Adriana Kangrga, who spent the summer performing traditional Serbian dances across southeastern Europe. Katarina is the Editor-in-Chief of ACP Erie's "Knight Times" student-led newspaper and loves bringing words to life through journalism. Chandler High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Katherine Chou and Sydney Chun (Chandler High/Chandler Online Academy) who have been named National Merit Semifinalists based on last year's PSAT NMSQT scores. About 1.6 million students in some 22,000 high schools enter the National Merit Scholarship competition annually when they take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Semifinalists are the highest-scoring program entrants in each state and represent the top 0.5% of the state's senior students.
Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2019-2020) ACP Erie's Lemelson-MIT team, the KNIGHTS INNOVATORS, presented their Hydrothermal Hat/Headband to the CEO of Chandler Innovations, Mrs. Daina White. Mrs. White invited the team to attend the Track 1 program that the City of Chandler sponsors in collaboration with NACET (Northern Arizona Center for Emerging Technologies) for starting their own entrepreneurship. These ACP students will now be able to access technical support, marketing support, patent support and meet with some of the top businessmen in Arizona to support their cause. The Knights Innovators started their track last Tuesday at Chandler Innovations in Downtown Chandler. This group consists primarily of freshman and sophomores. Hamilton High - (2019-2020) During an afternoon ceremony, Hamilton High students Zana Ryan, editor; and Nolen Coley, cinematographer; earned a student production Rocky Mountain Emmy Award by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences from their work in the category of "High School Student Craft Editor" for their Hamilton High track promotional video.
Casteel High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Casteel High School sophomore Trey (Henry) Telfar III (pictured far left) who was selected by Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction, Kathy Hoffman, for her African American Advisory Council.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler Girls Volleyball was named the Bronze Bracket Champions at the Westwood Tournament of Champions.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Mattie Shumaker and Isabel Honzay went undefeated in doubles 2 at the 2019 Forner Badminton Tournament and earned 1st place medals.
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Hamilton High School is currently piloting an AP course developed through a partnership between the CollegeBoard and the African Diaspora Consortium: AP Seminar with African Diaspora content. This is the first ever AP course with an African topic, and Hamilton is proud to be the first school in the western US to offer this course. The Senior Executive Director of the African Diaspora Consortium, Rhonesha Blaché, visited with the class and facilitated a lesson about changing perceptions of Africa. Hamilton students have also had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Adama Sallu as a guest speaker and attending a 1619 commemoration event during which Dr. Sallu was a panelist. A university partnership is also a part of this pilot program, so students will have opportunities for field trips to ASU and graduate student mentorship as they conduct research.
Perry High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Tatum Stall who was named the MVP of the Westwood Tournament of Champions Volleyball Tournament this weekend. Perry High won the tournament which featured 36 of the top teams in the state.
Casteel High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Ashlyn Drew who was named one of the Top 300 MASTERS (out of 2,348 nominees from across the U.S.) in the 2019 Broadcom MASTERS, a program of Society for Science & the Public. She and her science fair project, Heightened Hydroponics, will now compete to become one of 30 national finalists in the Broadcom competition. Chandler High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Holly Hoogstra, Chandler High senior, who was recognized with the IB Student of the Year Award at the quarterly meeting of the Arizona International Baccalaureate Schools.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High junior Andre Richardson has been selected to attend the Southwest Airlines 2019 Continuing the Legacy in Aviation (academy/program) at the Southwest HQ Campus in Dallas, Texas this October. In June, Andre was selected to attend a weeklong Aviation Career Education Academy and learned about the aviation field through tours and professional instructions. Andre received an award for outstanding graduate as well as the Top Flyer Award. Andre was recommended by his academy instructor to apply for the Southwest Airlines Continuing the Legacy in Aviation event that hosts students from all over the country. Andre's application was selected and he was awarded the all-expense paid trip for him and a parent to attend.
Basha High - (2019-2020) Basha High School Social Studies teacher Elizabeth Schley is a part of a podcast for teacher tips. She is also an an author for Stories From Schools AZ where she shares daily life in an Arizona classroom for the Northern Arizona University AZ K12 Center where she is on the Teacher Advisory Board. Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High graduate Whitney Foster recently won third place in the world and first in the nation as a part of ASU's all-female robosub team at the Robonation International Competition in San Diego. The Si Se Puede Foundation, a valuable partner to CHS, was one of the founders of the WAVE Robotics Team. Perry High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Perry senior Amber Adams who was elected this summer as the Arizona DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) State President -- the first in Perry school history!
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Hamilton girls varsity golf won first place at the Nighthawk Tournament on August 23 and 24, defeating Xavier and Cactus Shadows. Maddie Adam shot par for 36 holes!

Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2019-2020) Positive Coaching Alliance is honored to annually award nearly 150 scholarships totaling nearly $150,000 across the US to student-athletes who strive to be a Triple-Impact Competitor, impacting sport on three levels by working to improve themselves, their teammates, and their sport as a whole. These finalists were selected from more than 3,500 applicants who received nearly 7,500 references in support of their application. Chandler High - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Holly Hoogstra, Chandler High senior, who was one of 32 students from around the country chosen to participate in the Economics for Leaders program conducted at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX in July. Holly was chosen for the program because of her excellent leadership potential.

Casteel High - (2019-2020) Casteel High's Michelle Capriotti was awarded the National Education Association: Global Learning Teaching Fellowship. She is one of 42 teachers from around the country who will travel to Washington D.C. this October and then to Peru next summer. They will be focusing on global learning and applying best practices to the classrooms and sharing with teachers from around the world their projects and research.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Casey Likes, Chandler High/Chandler Online Academy Senior, will be starring in a new musical based on the 2000 movie Almost Famous that is slated for Broadway in 2020. He is currently in rehearsals in New York for a run at the Old Globe in San Diego in October before they move to Broadway!
Hamilton High - (2019-2020) Hamilton senior Devrath Iyer was selected to attend the prestigious Research Science Institute (RSI), jointly sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Education and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. RSI is an intensive, six-week program that gives students the opportunity to conduct original, cutting-edge science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) research in state-of-the-art university laboratories, hospitals and corporate research facilities in Boston and Cambridge, MA. His accomplishment was recognized by Hon. Andy Biggs, Arizona Representative, in the records of the 116th US Congress and by Governor Doug Ducey via a commendation from the State of Arizona.

Arizona College Prep - Erie Campus - (2019-2020) Mrs. Nath was awarded Honorable Mention for the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators for the year 2019. She is one of only two people to have received this award from within the states of California, Nevada and Arizona and the first person to receive this award from Arizona since 2016. Chandler High - (2019-2020) Zach Espalin, Chandler High junior, has been named a USA Wrestling 2019 Freestyle National Championships All-American! Zach is just the 10th multi All-American in Chandler Wrestling history.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High's FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team won the State competition and will compete at Nationals in October in Indianapolis.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) DeCarlos Brooks, 2019 Chandler High graduate, was named AZCentral's Football Player of the Year.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Braxton Bradbeer, 2019 Chandler High graduate, was named AZCentral's Boys Volleyball Player of the Year.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Chandler High is one of three schools in the country to have its girls, boys and beach volleyball programs receive team academic recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Chandler Girls Volleyball earned a 3.71 team GPA. Girls Beach had a 4.27 team GPA, and Boys Volleyball earned a 3.64 team GPA.
Chandler High - (2019-2020) Over 350 German language and science students, teachers, and experts on the matter of sustainability from Germany and the U.S. had the opportunity to come together in Chicago to attend the Goethe Institut's Sustainability Summit at Loyola University over Memorial Day weekend. Six Chandler High School German and Environmental Science students and their teachers, Melanie Mello and Russell Davis, were lucky recipients of a grant to participate in this summit.
Casteel High - (2019-2020) Alexis Ngo and Quincy Lee, upcoming seniors in our CTE Sports Medicine Program, competed at the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) International Leadership Conference (ILC) during the summer of 2019. This is the first time Casteel High has ever attended the highest competition for HOSA. Both ladies faced tough competition from around the country and world including China, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa. Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Hamilton Theatre won several state awards after their performance on May 24 at ASU Gammage. Our musical was in the top ten for the state for Best Musical, we won for Best Costumes, and Sophia Donnell won Best Lead Female. Sophia will go on to represent Arizona in New York City for the national competition, The Jimmy Awards. She won an all-expense paid trip for a training camp at NYU and then will perform in the same theatre as Lion King.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Cienna Samiley, Chandler High junior, competed at the Junior Olympic Nationals in Indianapolis against the top Level 10 gymnasts in the country and medaled on the Uneven Bars with a score of 9.675. Chandler High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Chandler High junior Casey Likes who won Best Vocalist and Best Male Lead for his role in Les Miserables. The last award makes Casey eligible for the National Jimmy Awards, so ASU Gammage is flying him to New York City June 16-25 where he will be representing Arizona and CHS at the national awards competition! Casteel High - (2018-2019) Casteel Junior High Academic Pentathlon, under the direction of Sheila Wilson, finished fifth overall at nationals in Nashville Tennessee. Additional awards include:

- Tiara Furukawa - 4th in Social Science and 8th overall in Scholastic division

Chandler High - (2018-2019) Giselle Dominguez, a Chandler High senior, was a Finalist for the 2019 Congressional Art Show and will have her artwork hung in Congressman Greg Stanton's office until September.
Chandler High - (2018-2019) Chandler High celebrated the accomplishments of 25 AVID graduating seniors during the AVID Senior Celebration and banquet. The seniors, many of whom have been a part of the college-prep elective for four years, have all been accepted to four-year universities and have earned over $350,000 in scholarship offers.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) In an overnight game on May 15, Hamilton High, under the direction of Coach Mike Woods, won the 6A State Baseball Championship against Corona Del Sol 8-1 at Tempe Diablo Stadium. The first pitch was not thrown until 10:39 p.m. by freshman pitcher Logan Saloman. The last was thrown at 12:30 a.m. It was the third state title in four years and the seventh overall for the Huskies.
Hamilton High - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Abby Liu, Ella Ai and Thalia Liu! Out of over 1,800 high school students from more than 80 countries, regions, and territories around the world competing May 12 - 17 in Phoenix at the prestigious 2019 International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the team of Abby, Ella and Thalia won 4th place overall in the category of Biomedical Engineering and $500 for their project titled Identifying Key Pathways/Mechanisms for the Generation of Pancreatic Beta Cells by Trans-differentiation of Acinar Cells. 2019 ISEF Grand Award winners
