Congratulations to ACP Erie Honors Bio and Human Bio teacher Rachna Nath who was nominated for the EPA's (Environmental Protection Agency) Presidential Innovation Award - Environmental Educators. Joseph Shaw of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality nominated Mrs. Nath after working with her on multiple projects involving environmental issues. Two Biophysics Club students from ACP Erie, Sejal Jain and Michelle Sheikh, presented their work at Biophest 2019 at ASU on March 30 in ACP Erie and ASU's first collaboration to develop a biophysics pipeline. Sejal and Michelle were the only two high school students in attendance, making their presentation in front of over 300 ASU graduate students. The ACP Erie Speech and Debate team competed at the state tournament on March 15 and 16 and won the AIA Division II 3rd Place trophy.

The Society for Science and the Public has awarded a STEM Research Grant for 2019 to Mrs. Rachna Nath to be used on resources to inspire the next generation of scientists at ACP Erie. Mrs. Nath is one of only 35 middle and high school science teachers from 23 states across the country to receive this prestigious grant. Congratulations! Kazushi Iwamoto placed 2nd place overall at the Arizona Junior Science and Humanities Symposium finals. This finish earned Kazushi a $1,500 scholarship and a spot as a presenter at the Nationals Science and Humanities Symposium in New Mexico this April. This is a wonderful opportunity as the state of Arizona can only earn two spots for presenters at nationals each year.

FLINN foundation has provided ACP Erie and ASU a grant of $5,000 to fund a collaborative effort to create a pipeline for biophysics students from K-12 schools to ASU, the first program of its kind. Mrs. Rachna Nath is working with Dr. Abhishek Singharoy at ASU to create a biophysics chapter at ACP Erie. Students in the program will be able to access ASU computers remotely and work on designing computer models of molecules.

The ACP Erie Mobius E-waste club was invited by the Arizona Recycling Coalition to attend their annual meeting and gala. Though they were the youngest members in attendance, two club members, Nicole Carmiol and Elias Hernandez, interacted with many stakeholders and gained a lot of attention for their idea of e-waste collection. ACP Erie junior Elaina Ashton was recognized by the City of Chandler at the Chandler Center for the Arts on February 7 with the "Youth Volunteer Award" for her efforts related after-school STEM programs through the YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Girl Scout teams to name a few. She also serves on Governor Ducey's STEM advisory council as the Chief Science Officer.

ACP Erie Student Government and advisor Britni Michaelson earned the Outstanding Council of Distinction Award from the Arizona Association of Student Councils. The students had to put together a scrapbook that showcases the impact that Student Government has on their campus and community. The scrapbook included various events that were put on, as well as fundraisers, community service projects, and evidence of best practices as a council. ACP Oakland and ACP Erie VEX Robotics teams won at the Chandler Invitational VEX Tournament at Payne Junior High prior to winter break. There were 18 teams competing from Willis, Payne, Erie, Casteel, Knox, and Bogle. ACP Oakland's team 7830P won the "Sportsmanship" award for helping the Payne team with their robot, and team 7830A won the "Design" award for their robot design and engineering notebook. In the end, the ACP Erie Mages won the tournament.
