A Message about former CUSD Superintendent Dr. Howard Conley

Dr. Howard Conley Dr. Howard Conley, former Chandler Unified School District superintendent, passed away September 20 at the age of 92. Dr. Conley served as C.U.S.D. superintendent from 1991-1996. He is credited for  laying a strong academic foundation for Chandler’s success. Both former superintendent Dr. Camille Casteel and current superintendent Mr. Franklin Narducci credit Dr. Conley for setting the stage. 

“We owe Howard Conley a debt of gratitude for his leadership and focus on student centered learning in  CUSD,” Narducci said. “He was determined to have Chandler Unified School District recognized for high performance in all areas.”  

Dr. Conley’s career in CUSD began in 1976. He first served as principal of Chandler High School then became an assistant superintendent followed by superintendent in 1991. Dr. Conley also taught educational administration courses through Northern Arizona University. In 1996, CUSD honored Dr. Conley with the naming of our 14th Elementary School – Howard K. Conley Elementary. 

 Dr. Conley loved Chandler schools and was proud to be connected to our community. He is survived by his wife Hazel, extended family, and a legion of CUSD staff and former students.
