CHANDLER, AZ - Just as learning is not limited to the school day, a child’s need for proper nutrition extends past when school is in session. The Chandler Unified School District’s (CUSD) Food and Nutrition Department is providing free meals to children during the summer as part of the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
CHANDLER, AZ - Just as learning is not limited to the school day, a child’s need for proper nutrition extends past when school is in session. The Chandler Unified School District’s (CUSD) Food and Nutrition Department is providing free meals to children during the summer as part of the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).“We want to feed any kid or teen 18 years old or younger. They don’t need to attend one of our schools, there are no income requirements and there is no registration needed. Just show up and we will feed you.” “To us these meals are a community building opportunity. Stop on by, meet up with friends and family, cool-off, hangout, and enjoy a free meal.” Bethany Hultstrand General Manager of CUSD Food and Nutrition.
Due to the success of our partnership with the city of Chandler last year we are going to continue to serve Free Summer Meals at Arrowhead and Folley public pools. “We want to be where the kids are during the summer heat to better serve them” Audri Knutson, Assistant Director of CUSD Food and Nutrition.
This summer CUSD will be hosting free meals at 4 main sites:
Chandler High School (near football stadium):
191 W Oakland St., Chandler, AZ
Room 14
Weekdays, June 2nd – July 3rd
Breakfast: 7am - 8:30am
Lunch: 10:30am - 12:30pm
Galveston Elementary School:
661 E Galveston St., Chandler, AZ
Weekdays, June 2nd – July 3rd
Breakfast: 7:45am - 8:30am
Lunch: 11am - 12pm
Folley Public Pool:
600 E Fairview St. Chandler, AZ
Monday - Thursday, May 27th to June 27th
Breakfast: 8:30am -10:30am
Lunch: 12:45 - 2:45pm
Arrowhead Public Pool: 1475 W. Erie St Chandler, AZ
Monday - Thursday, May 27th to June 27th
Breakfast: 8:30am-10:30am
Lunch: 12:45pm - 2:45pm
There are no curbside options available. Due to USDA regulations, all meals must be consumed on site, meals are only the child 18 years of age or younger. Signs will be posted at each site directing community members where to go.
