In the United States, Patriot Day honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the terrorist attacks of September 11th. On Friday, September 9, 2022, schools across the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) hosted events in honor of Patriot Day. More events are planned for Monday.

Multiple CUSD elementary schools held flag raising ceremonies, sang patriotic songs, and gave speeches describing the historical significance of September 11th.

Carlson Elementary and Andersen Elementary honored visitors from Chandler Fire Department, Chandler Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Students were able to meet first responders, explore their vehicles, and ask questions.

CUSD high schools and junior high schools discussed September 11, 2001, in social studies classes and commemorated Patriot Day in additional ways. Basha High School's AFJROTC honored the 21st anniversary of 9/11 at exactly 6:37 a.m. in remembrance of the time the Pentagon was attacked.

Bogle Junior High School's student council asked students and staff to submit pictures of friends and family members who served in the military. The photos with stories are on display in the windows of the media center.

Chandler public schools work hard to ensure that students learn about the importance of this historic event, and students and staff make it a priority to regularly honor veterans and first responders in their community.
