Three Chandler Unified athletic directors receive awards at 2022 AIAAA Conference
The Arizona Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (AIAAA) recognized three Chandler Unified School District athletic directors during the annual AIAAA Conference in Prescott, September 10 – 13.
Congratulations to the following:
Jaime McClure, Assistant Principal/Athletic Director, ACP High School: Zig Kwiatkowski Rookie Step to the Plate Award (Small Schools)
McClure has been in education for more than 20 years as a classroom teacher, math interventionist, coach, and administrator. She started her career in Mesa Public Schools where she spent 7 years then transferred to Higley Unified for the next 8 years. She is now starting her fourth year in CUSD at ACP High School.
Eric Magana, Assistant Principal/Athletic Director, Basha High School: Zig Kwiatkowski Rookie Step to the Plate Award (Large Schools)
Magaña came to Basha after spending two years as an administrator at Chandler High School. Prior to becoming an administrator, Mr. Magaña was a special education teacher, a history teacher, and coach at McClintock, Higley, and Perry High School. Magaña was a varsity basketball coach for over 10 years and was the AIA 4A-5A coach of the year in 2013. He has also served in various leadership roles during his career.
Jim Culver, Assistant Principal/Athletic Director, Chandler High School: AIAAA Distinguished Service Award
Culver played baseball at Scottsdale Community College, then transferred to ASU to finish his undergraduate work. After ASU, Mr. Culver worked in the business world before returning to education at Globe High School in Arizona. In 2001, he started teaching at Chandler High, and then in 2012, Mr. Culver transitioned to administration.
“These three are the best of the best, and it’s nice to see them get recognized for their efforts,” Shawn Rustad, Director of Secondary Athletics and Auxiliary Programs, said. "I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with each of them, and I’m sure our students feel the same.”
