Tarwater Named Distinguished K-12 Chinese Program in the US
The Chinese Language Teacher Association has lauded Tarwater Elementary as a National Distinguished K-12 program. Tarwater is one of only 20 programs in the country to earn this designation.
The association is the first Chinese Teacher organization to form in the U.S., with roots going back to 1962. It provides leadership, scholarships and service to K-12 Chinese programs in the U.S. Tarwater will be featured in the future edition of the association’s journal.
Tarwater has offered a dual language immersion program in Mandarin since 2014. The program feeds into Mandarin programs at Bogle Junior High School and Hamilton High School. Tarwater students experience a 50/50 model in grades K-6, in which they spend half their day with Mandarin classroom instruction and the other half of the day with English instruction to help students become competitive global citizens.
