Chandler Education Foundation awards record-breaking amount to Chandler educators

October 21, 2024

Chandler, AZ — The Chandler Education Foundation (CEF) is thrilled to announce a record-breaking $179,438 has been awarded this year through its annual Cash for Classrooms program. These funds directly support teacher-requested grants across the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD), enhancing the educational experience for students throughout the district.

With a 47% increase in applications from teachers, the need for innovative resources continues to grow. Teachers are committed to providing enriching, cutting-edge learning opportunities, but many of these resources are not covered by traditional funding sources. That’s where the Cash for Classrooms program steps in—powered entirely by donations from families, local businesses, and individuals.

“Every single grant awarded is a direct result of the generosity of our community,” said Jen Hewitt, Executive Director of the Chandler Education Foundation. “These funds go beyond textbooks and supplies. They bring experiences and tools that transform students’ learning. This year, CUSD educators truly stepped up, spending additional time to research and write grant applications for innovative resources and experiences for their students.”

Students at Bash High School display the $1,500 grant their teacher, Glenda Skalitzky, received for multimedia equipment.Of the 211 applications received, 120 classroom grants were awarded across 44 CUSD schools and sites, with funding amounts ranging from $260 to $3,000. The grants support a wide variety of needs, including:

STEM Initiatives: Cutting-edge equipment like robotics kits, 3D printers, a mobile planetarium, biotech, and lab tools to inspire future innovators and scientists.
Special Education Resources: Specialized playground equipment and sensory tools to create inclusive learning environments for all students.
Fine Arts Support: Musical instruments and recording software, as well as film, dance, and drama equipment that nurture creativity and artistic talent.
Language and Literacy Tools: Expanded library collections, bilingual dictionaries, and reading fluency headphones to boost literacy skills and academic success.
Mental Health Enrichment: personal development programs, calming spaces, and mindfulness strategies to support student mental well-being.

These resources and experiences have a direct and lasting impact on students' learning outcomes, enhancing their engagement and success in the classroom. None of this would be possible without the community’s dedication to supporting education.

“Our students thrive because our community believes in them,” said Frank Narducci, Superintendent of CUSD. “Your contributions, no matter the size, are bringing our teachers’ most innovative ideas to life, making a tangible difference in student outcomes and helping create the best possible learning experiences.”
Grant applications are thoroughly evaluated by CUSD leadership and CEF staff to ensure they address the most critical needs. Recipients were surprised by the ‘Woohoo Patrol’, a group comprised of CEF staff, board members, and corporate sponsors, who delivered the exciting news to teachers and students directly in their classrooms.

The Chandler Education Foundation extends its deepest thanks to all who donated to this year’s Cash for Classrooms campaign. A collection of highlighted grant awards and photos can be found online here: https://tinyurl.com/2024Cash4ClassroomsGrants
