Welcome!
Welcome EPA students and families. It is my privilege to be your math teacher this year. Academic success will be accomplished similar to how you advance in a sport — with supportive instruction, practice, perseverance, and teamwork. You will be extraordinary!
My Education and Professional Background
I am passionate about education. Before knowing I was to become a teacher, my work always revolved around work with kids. I coordinated activities for an after-school program, was a camp counselor for an environmental nature camp and even had a stint as a child photographer. Eventually, it dawned on me that education was the career choice for me! My formal education includes a Bachelor’s degree and K-8 multiple subject certification from John F. Kennedy University in Walnut Creek, CA and Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Arizona University. I was fortunate to join CUSD in 2002 and taught for several years at Knox, followed by Navarrete where I spent 10 years teaching primarily fifth, then sixth grade. I am just floored now to be a part of EPA and its extraordinary community of learners and educators as we embark on this new chapter together!
My Educational Philosophy
My love for teaching and education inspired me to lead aspiring and current teachers. I enjoy mentoring student and new teachers and have been involved with both ASU and NAU’s teacher education program as a master teacher for the past several years. It is not uncommon to have a student teacher in my classroom! Additionally, I taught graduate coursework to teachers attending ASU, connected to mathematical methods, content and assessment. I love the language of mathematics and its application to real world problems.
My first goal as an educator is to create optimal conditions for growth. Students will experience a positive learning environment that is both motivating and secure. The number one rule in my classroom is that we respect one another. Valuing the unique personalities and talents of each individual, is the fundamental framework for success.Click to Report a Website Problem
