Ms. Henrichs was awarded the $5,000 SRP grant because of her vision to incorporate more technology into the Science classroom as well as her goal to create a partnership between curricular areas to create a deeper understanding of the science concepts. Students at Andersen Jr. High will now have instant access to a rolling STEM lab in which sixth through eighth-grade students will be able to use a classroom set of iPads for simulation labs, collecting and graphing lab data as well as many more opportunities that will only enrich their education at Andersen Junior High! Ms. Henrichs strongly believes that students who can connect what they are learning from class to class will have a richer educational experience and will become more excited about what they’re learning. It is her goal to use these iPads to also have 8th grade science teachers partner with the physical education teachers to work collaboratively on a project to assess, measure and analyze student fitness progress. Students can use the iPads to track their own progress with data collected on a fitness app in the PE classroom which they will then transfer to the science classroom to support physics concepts such as; speed, velocity, acceleration and much more. This partnership will give Andersen students a chance to use real-life and individualized data to practice skills needed and to create ownership in their learning. This project will impact over 900 students each year! Wow, way to go Ms. Henrichs!
