State Spring Testing Update
Chandler Unified School District has taken the opportunity to utilize the Menu of Assessment option at the high school level. We are grateful to the Arizona state legislature for the opportunity to eliminate seven testing days over the course of a child’s high school career and focus that time on learning in the classroom. This means we will no longer administer AzMERIT or AIMS Science for 9th through 12th grade students.
In place of AzMERIT and AIMS Science, CUSD will administer the ACT to all 11th grade students throughout the district. The ACT has been administered to juniors over the last several years within our district in an effort to increase post-secondary enrollment after graduation. This year the exam will serve in that capacity as well as satisfying the state-mandated testing requirement. The students will be assessed in English, Reading, Mathematics and Science.
If you are looking for opportunities for your child to study for the ACT, please visit ACT Academy for personalized instruction and practice assessments.
The construction of Perry High School’s new building has begun.
Effective Monday, November 4, the east entrance (closest to the library) into the parking lot off of 156th Street will be for entry only. Please follow the signs indicating the new traffic flow. Please see the attached map for reference.
Thank you for your patience during this time.
Cash for Classrooms
The annual Cash for Classrooms campaign is in full swing! Please consider giving what you can to help the Chandler Education Foundation fund enrichment grants to teachers and schools across the district. A record number of teachers have applied for grants that enrich and extend learning, making lessons memorable. Grants are awarded within weeks! Cum Laude Recognition Program 2020
Dear Puma Families:
Effective with the Class of 2020, all CUSD high schools will be using the Cum Laude recognition program. This will replace the concept of designating a valedictorian and salutatorian at graduation. This recognition program will be used to acknowledge the most academic successful students at graduation. More of our outstanding seniors will be recognized than the valedictorian/salutatorian concept allowed. The GPA is weighted. The designation and GPA will be calculated at the end of the 7th semester.
The categories for distinction under the Cum Laude recognition program are as follows:
Summa Cum Laude — meaning "with the highest praise". To qualify a student must achieve a
4.5 — 5.0 grade point average.
Magna Cum Laude — meaning "with great praise". To qualify a student must achieve a
4.25 — 4.49 grade point average.
Cum Laude — meaning "with praise". To qualify a student must achieve a 3.75 — 4.24 grade point average.
