Honors, Awards and Special Programs
Galveston Elementary - (2019-2020) The Family Engagement Team at Galveston Elementary School, held a Movin' On Up Data Night for all families of second graders. Twenty-three enthusiastic families learned and practiced a reading fluency strategy. This reading fluency skill equips families with a research-based strategy with which to assist their child to become a better reader. Childcare was provided, the families became eager, engaged learners, and several left with fun raffle prizes! Families committed to help their child reach a goal set by their family. They left Data Night equipped with support, materials and a better understanding of how to help their child be successful.
Galveston Elementary - (2019-2020) Galveston 4th graders enjoyed Water Festival stations at Tumbleweed Park, put on by the City of Chandler and University of Arizona! Galveston Elementary - (2019-2020) Galveston is now a proud "B " school, as rated by the Arizona Department of Education for the 2018-19 school year.

Galveston Elementary - (2019-2020) Galveston Elementary students celebrated Unity Day on Wednesday, Oct. 23. October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and Unity Day is a day in which students unite and wear orange to stand up against bullying and unite in kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Galveston Elementary - (2019-2020) Tana Miller's third grade class read a story about bats and then used animal research to create these awesome bat habitats!

Galveston Elementary - (2019-2020) Congratulations to Gracie Orozco, an outstanding Galveston student, who was nominated for Scruffy's Tuffy's and will represent Galveston at an upcoming Chandler High football game. Gracie consistently exhibits the six pillars of Chandler High School: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.

Galveston Elementary - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Galveston teacher Jasmine Galloway who was one of three CUSD teachers invited to attend the Arizona Diamondbacks Science of Baseball on April 13 at Chase Ballfield. The Arizona Diamondbacks Science of Baseball provides a mechanism for teachers to help students improve their academic performance. Their goal is to translate students' love of baseball into an appreciation, understanding, and passion of the science and mathematics underlying the sport.

Galveston Elementary - (2018-2019) First graders at Galveston Elementary culminated a 3 week study of sun and light including learning about shadows, temperature, and shade. The students practiced the engineering process by trying to solve a problem of cooling off on the playground. The students were challenged to create a model of a shade structure. They worked in teams of 2 and planned, built, and tested the structures.

Galveston Elementary - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Galveston Elementary PE teacher Jill Burnley who was one of four CUSD teachers who presented at the Arizona Health and Physical Education State Convention during the week of October 22. Their session was titled "CUSD PE TEACHERS are OPEN to Fitness!"
Galveston Elementary - (2018-2019) Galveston kindergarten teacher Denise Castillo won a $500 Supply My Class APS Teacher Award from Arizona Public Service.
Galveston Elementary - (2017-2018) Galveston Elementary teacher Maria Hase participated in the Kids Safe Online Cyber Security Awareness Calendar Contest. Her students watched short videos and talked about information related to Cyber Security and bullying. The culmination of the unit was entering the contest. One of her student's Melony, ended up being a winner in the contest! She was honored at an awards ceremony at the Arizona Department of Administration.
Galveston Elementary - (2017-2018) The Galveston Kiwanis Kids Club visited Brookdale Chandler Regional Nursing Home in February.
Galveston Elementary - (2017-2018) Galveston 6th graders participated in the Math League Competition at Basha High.
Galveston Elementary - (2017-2018) Galveston 4th - 6th graders attended the Kiwanis K-Kids Club kickoff party. Officers were installed and members were pinned!
Galveston Elementary - (2017-2018) Galveston Elementary Robotics Club came in 9th place in the robot category at the Lego Robotics Competition.
Galveston Elementary - (2017-2018) Galveston students collected $1,400 for victims of Hurricane Harvey in September. Hartford Principal Heather Anguiano will deliver the check personally.
Galveston Elementary - (2017-2018) Thank you to the Kiwanis Club who donated several hundred books to our school in partnership with the San Diego Book Project. Books were distributed over the two days of conferences.
Galveston Elementary - (2017-2018) Galveston Elementary had excellent neighborhood turnout for Mayor Jay Tibshraeny and his staff on the Mayor's Listening Tour.
Galveston Elementary - (2016-2017) Be Kind People Project and Subway Cycle for Success: Teachers nominated students for showing random acts of kindness. Two winners were chosen, and they each won a bicycle!

Galveston Elementary - (2016-2017) Be Kind Group and Microsoft partnered up to present our students with an outstanding assembly promoting ways to be outstanding citizens. Galveston is very proud to be a part of this program.
Galveston Elementary - (2016-2017) Galveston Elementary 3rd Grade Teacher, Kirsty Lydy, was named KNIX Teacher of the Week for the week of December 19th.
Galveston Elementary - (2016-2017) The Galveston Robotics Club, sponsored by Si Se Puede, competed in the Animal Allies Robotics Competition at Metro Tech High in November. Our team won the prestigious Judges Choice Award. Congratulations on a job well done!
Galveston Elementary - (2016-2017) Ms. Campbells fifth grade students participated in the Hour of Code at the Microsoft Store.
Galveston Elementary - (2016-2017) Galveston was awarded a $500 grant for brand new library books from Gardner's Book Service. The grant was awarded by the Barbara Park Foundation.
Galveston Elementary - (2016-2017) Galveston teacher Melissa Lundquist will be presenting at the Math Educator Appreciation Day (MEAD) Math Conference in Tucson, Arizona.
Galveston Elementary - (2016-2017) Mrs. Henegar Smith spoke to our 4th and 5th grade classes about her experience on 9/11. She lived on Staten Island and worked in the south tower on the 84th floor. There was so much confusion that day when the tower was hit. She did not intend to leave until her supervisor insisted that she go home. Unfortunately, her supervisor did not leave. Mrs. Smith considers her an angel who continues to watch over her. She expressed thanks for first respondents who helped during this horrific event.
Galveston Elementary - (2015-2016) Galveston music teacher Dr. Matt Lennex was awarded grant funding to support sending our 3rd grade students to the Musical Instrument Museum.
Galveston Elementary - (2015-2016) Galveston teacher Elizabeth Leon has coordinated an English class for parents of Galveston students. The class goes on throughout the spring and the enrollment has been filled with eager learners. We are so proud of our parents for modeling the love of learning.
