San Marcos Elementary - (2018-2019) San Marcos preschool and pre-K classrooms received a visit from the Arizona Health Zone to learn about the benefits of eating healthy veggies. They had a chance to create art with the veggies and taste their veggie creations.
San Marcos Elementary - (2018-2019) We held a Family Feast to celebrate all the students and families at San Marcos. Parents, families, friends and community members were invited to join our students at lunchtime for a Fall/Winter feast.

San Marcos Elementary - (2017-2018) Congratulations to San Marcos teacher Jolene Gallup, one of nine CUSD teachers who recently earned their National Board Certification (NBC). The process was rigorous but worthwhile for these teachers. National Board Certification was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. San Marcos Elementary - (2016-2017) San Marcos teachers Katie Shaffer and Sue Anderson were awarded Chandler Education Foundation (CEF) grants this year. One grant will provide a color printer in our reading room to print color reports for our students information -- easily and quickly accessible to students, parents, and teachers. The other was for a storage and display teaching cart to organize and display Fundations, Grammar and Math time materials.
San Marcos Elementary - (2016-2017) Patrick Peterson Reading Corner ribbon cutting took place in the Bears' Den. The dedication of the corner was made to San Marcos to inspire a lifelong love of Reading. Patrick Peterson, in conjunction with Scholastic Books, provided the materials for the corner.
San Marcos Elementary - (2015-2016) Niurka Sandoval was awarded the TODOS Student Recognition Award for Mathematics. TODOS: Mathematics for ALL is an international professional organization that advocates for equity and excellence in mathematics education for ALL students - in particular, Latina/o students. San Marcos Elementary - (2015-2016) Three Chandler Unified schools have been named A+ Schools of Excellence! The Arizona Educational Foundation (AEF) announced that Andersen Junior High, Riggs Elementary and San Marcos Elementary have received the coveted A+ Schools of Excellence™ award for the 2015-2016 school year. Applicant schools are rigorously evaluated in the areas of student focus and support, school culture, active teaching and learning, curriculum, leadership, community and parent involvement, and assessment data. San Marcos Elementary - (2015-2016) Congratulations to Tracy Tolstedt, recepient of the "Donors Choose Award for Curious Coders." Mrs. Tolstedt received four programmable robots from donors to help further her teaching of computer coding with students. San Marcos Elementary - (2015-2016) Lauren Delfino-Karl, second grade teacher at San Marcos Elementary School, was named a 2016 Rodel Exemplary Teacher. She is one of 15 educators across the state recognized by Rodel.
San Marcos Elementary - (2015-2016) The Patrick Peterson Foundation for Success placed the "Patrick Peterson Reading Corner" at San Marcos, providing the students access to books and a fun environment to read with friends.

San Marcos Elementary - (2013-2014) San Marcos teacher Emily Boland, was honored to be the vocal soloist who sang America the Beautiful at the Prescott firefighter's memorial ceremony.
San Marcos Elementary - (2012-2013) ASU's Sparky visited San Marcos last week as part of the Sparky Tour. He brought ASU athletes with him representing the ASU football, basketball, track and volleyball teams. Together they taught the kids about good character using the SPARKY acronym: Self esteem, Positive, Active, Respect, Knowledge, Yourself.
San Marcos Elementary - (2012-2013) The Chandler Chamber of Commerce has named Sarah Burgess of Hamilton High the Educator of the Year, Cathy Giza, director of nutrition and food services, the Administrator of the Year and San Marcos paraprofessional Betty Romero the Support Staff Employee of the Year. They will be honored at a recognition dinner May 30 at the Chandler Hilton.
San Marcos Elementary - (2012-2013) The Alliance for a Healthier Generation announced in June that San Marcos Elementary School earned a 2012 Bronze national recognition award.

San Marcos Elementary - (2011-2012) San Marcos was selected to again participate in the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant for the 2012-2013 school year. The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program provides funds for schools to provide free servings of fresh fruits and fresh vegetables throughout the day to students. The FFVP shows children that fresh fruits and vegetables are healthy and tasty alternatives to snacks high in fat, sugar, or salt.
San Marcos Elementary - (2011-2012) Reading for the Stars: San Marcos is one of five schools in the state chosen to partner with Angie Pogue and Dr. Donald Covey with the Maricopa Education Service Agency. Reading for the Stars is a research-based initiative presented by the Maricopa County Education Service Agency
San Marcos Elementary - (2011-2012) 21st Century School Grant Recipient. San Marcos is in its 4th year of the 21st Century Grant Program. This grant provides 5 years of after school continuing education and enrichment programs for students.
San Marcos Elementary - (2011-2012) Jamie Merrill, curriculum specialist at San Marcos, received the Teal and Silver Award from Chandler/Gilbert Community College. The Program was created to recognize the contributions of individuals who support CGCC students, employees, programs, services, and the college community.

Kids at Hope inspires, empowers, and transforms families, youth serving organizations (schools, parks and recreation departments, police and fire departments, etc.) and entire communities to create an environment where all children experience success, NO EXCEPTIONS!
San Marcos Elementary - (2011-2012) San Marcos Coro (choir group) was invited to entertain for the Crozier Gala on April 14 at the Phoenix Convention Center. This is an annual event that raises funds to provide services and scholarships to the Maricopa County community. In the past, most of the entertainment has been provided by people who are professionals in their fields.
