    Welcome to 5th Grade! I am looking forward to a productive year filled with discovering new concepts and building a caring community.

    One thing I frequently am asked is how to pronounce my name: Ricque (Ricky) Pekara (Peh-CARE-uh).

    My Education and Professional Background

    I received my Bachelor's degree in education from Concordia University: River Forest, Illinois in 1997. In 2010, I earned my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Language and Literacy from ASU. I have my ESL, Reading, Early Childhood, and School Media Specialist endorsement, and English as an Approved Area of instruction. Thinking Maps, Write from the Beginning, and Read Naturally are just a few of the programs in which I am trained. I have been teaching since 1999.

    My Educational Philosophy

    I believe all people are capable of learning. As a teacher, I facilitate the learning process by providing a safe environment for students to take educational risks. My goal is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be lifelong learners, responsible citizens, and critical thinkers.
