    Meet Our Principal

Welcome to Santan Elementary, home of the Storm!

My name is Amy O’Neal, and I am beginning my tenth year as Principal of Santan Elementary School.  At the same time, I am beginning my twenty-second year in the Chandler Unified School District, having taught for nine years at Andersen Jr. High School, as well as spending two years at District Office working with the Associate Superintendent of Instruction and the Director of Secondary Education prior to arriving at Santan.  I had one year as Dean of Students at Santan Elementary prior to becoming principal.

While I am not an Arizona native, this has been home for well over half my life.  I attended high school in Mesa and graduated from Arizona State University (Go Devils!) with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in English.  After graduating, I went back to school, through University of Phoenix, to earn my post-baccalaureate teaching certification, as teaching was something I had always dreamed of doing.

Following my teaching certification program, I was hired into Chandler Unified School District.  Now, twenty-two years and two Master’s degrees later, I happily find myself in the position I worked toward from the time I began my teaching career.

As the parent of my own teenager, I have  strong empathy for and understanding of our parent community and their desire for the best possible education for their children, as nothing but the best is good enough, particularly as our children are exposed to and educated on the most important building blocks of literacy, mathematics and character.  Children are the top priority at Santan, and I will work with the staff of Santan Elementary School to provide the safest, most welcoming and positive learning environment for all of our children.

I look forward to working with all of you throughout the coming months and years.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
