    Clarification

Every quarter your student will be STAR TESTED.  This means they will take a test on the computer, and their reading level will be determined.  I will give them a range to look for books in their level, and they will know to look for a certain color of a dot in our school library. Our classroom library is mostly leveled as well, but students will need to look inside the cover of the book to see the level.   Your student may take tests on any books within their range.  I suggest that they start with the easier books within that range so that they can get an 85% or better on their test since they are UNABLE to RETAKE TESTS. After seeing what their level is, I will create individual goals for them to work on throughout the quarter.  How well they answer questions and how much they accomplish of their individual goal will be listed on the quarterly report card. It is separate from a student's reading grade. Students  read books in their level found in our library or in your home or city library. All books must be on the AR list in order to take a test on them. How do you know if it is on the AR list and there is a test for it? First, all books in our library with a color coded "dot" is an AR book.  Secondly, you can check this by entering the title of a book onto the Website www.arbookfind.com.  There is a link below that explains more how this Website is designed for your use. Please read it to inform yourself better.

Each title found in the AR system has a number of points that the book is worth.  For instance, if a student earns 100% on a test, then that student receives the full amount of points that book is worth.  Those points are then transferred to the goal of the quarter.  If a student's goal is 5.5 points, then he/she needs to take tests that amount to that goal.  Some books may be worth .5, 1.0, or 2.0 points.  The points increase with the level or difficulty of the book.  It is acceptable to obtain points beyond the student's personal goal; however, the percentage on the report card will stay at 100% if the goal has been reached or has been exceeded.

Important:  Please make sure your student has the Quiz number of the book, the title, and the author of the book if your student is bringing a book from home or from another library. The Quiz number may be located on the arbookfind Website as well. If your student is taking a test on a book from Goodman's library, the information is inside the book jacket on a sticker, so make sure the book is brought to school when ready to test.
