I'm the Dean at Frye Elementary. I moved to Arizona in 1993 from Oregon and never looked back, despite the hot, dry Arizona summers. I have been a part of the Frye family since the year 2000. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, going to the movies, traveling to warm beaches, shopping and spending time with family and friends. My husband, Patrick and I live in Ahwatukee with our daughter, Reagan and our three cats.
My Education and Professional Background
I graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Finance in 1992. After graduating I realized my true dream was to become an elementary school teacher. I moved to Arizona and graduated from Arizona State University with a Masters of Education in 1995. After graduation I taught in the Kyrene School District for 4 years teaching 3rd and 4th grade. I left the classroom to become a consultant and trainer for the Success for All Foundation (SFAF). I worked with Southern California and Arizona schools to help strengthen their reading program implementation and increase their students' reading success. After a year of traveling, I was ready to go back into the classroom. In the year 2000, I became a 5th grade teacher at Frye Elementary and then after one year I became the Curriculum Specialist. I also have my SEI endorsement and I am trained in Facilitative Leadership, Tribes and DIBLES.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe every child is unique and deserves a caring, inspiring, and engaging atmosphere in which to grow emotionally, intellectually, and socially. As an educator I want to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing a safe, risk-taking, and collaborative environment. I want our students to development positive character and leadership traits which are essential in becoming a productive citizen. I believe a positive elementary education is essential to creating successful life-long learners.
