    Welcome!

Welcome to sixth grade! I'm Mrs. Abbey and I have been teaching since 2017. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family and friends, reading, and all things Disney! I worked at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for a year, and try to bring a little magic into our classroom every day!

    My Education and Professional Background

I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University and my master's degree in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University, graduating Summa Cum Laude for both degrees. I hold endorsements in Middle Grades English Language Arts and Structured English Immersion. Additionally, I am trained on We The People: The Citizen and the Constitution, a civics curriculum outlining the history and principles of U.S. constitutional democracy at the elementary level. Growing up, I attended all CUSD schools and am a proud graduate of Hamilton High School!

I was named one of Walt Disney World's most innovative teachers in the country during their 50 Teachers Celebration on Good Morning America, as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks' Most Valuable Teacher in STEM, where I received a pregame recognition on Chase Field. I was honored as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Middle School Teacher of the Year for Arizona District 10, CUSD's Apple Achievement Award, and was a finalist in contests for the Arizona Coyotes’ Most Valuable Teacher and Teachers Federal Credit Union. Other accomplishments include being a grant recipient of Fiesta Bowl Charities, D-Backs STEM, Arizona Public Service (APS), Burch & Cracchiolo Law Firm, Back 2 School America, Salt River Project (SRP), Mountain America Credit Union, Chandler Education Foundation, and being selected as one of Busy Philipps' "Top 10 Teachers," where I was interviewed by Arizona's Family 3TV and featured in the SanTan Sun Newspaper.

    My Educational Philosophy

My philosophy as an educator is to motivate my students to become life-long learners by building positive relationships and setting high expectations.
