Welcome!

Hello and Welcome to 3rd Grade! My name is Stacy White and I am so excited about being your child's teacher this year! Born a Chicago Bears fan, I moved from Midwestern Illinois to sunny Arizona in 2003 with my husband and three daughters. Now I am a grandmother of 3 beautiful children who keep me happy and busy! Although we are considered empty nesters, we have 3 dogs that keep us on our toes!

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from the University of Illinois with a Special Education degree. Over the years, I have been a Head Start coordinator, Special Education Teacher, Girl Scout leader for nine years, Substitute teacher, and here in AZ, a para educator for both special ed. and regular ed. classes, an Elementary Ed. teacher and Dean of Students. I know I was born to be a teacher because no matter what role I was employed or volunteered for, working with children and their families always filled my heart with joy!

My Educational Philosophy

When I was in 3rd grade, I told my parents that I will be a special education teacher when I grow up and help change the way others accept these unique learners. I believe that ALL students can learn and succeed given the encouragement and opportunity to reach their highest academic achievements! Every child is unique and sometimes finding the ingredient that helps make learning make sense is one of a teacher's most important goal. Creating a warm and caring classroom environment for ALL students is extremely important for me to create positive relationships for educational growth! I will do everything in my power to help my students achieve their potential both academically and socially!

Hi PreK Families!

My Education and Professional Background

My name is Cathy Zinkhon (Ms. Cathy) and I am very excitedto be starting in the Chandler School District this year and especially at Shumway. I am coming from the Mesa School District after being there for the past 10 years. I began in Mesa as an Paraprofessional in a program very similar to the Priority PreK program here in Chandler. After about a year, I knew that I wanted to become a teacher. I have a B.A. in Psychology and my teaching certification in Early Childhood Special Education. A little personal information about me: I'm married and a mom of 2 daughters - one of whom has Autism. I love my pool and making fires in our fire pit to make hot dogs and S'mores. I enjoy watching movies, drinking coffee, and shopping on Amazon!

My Educational Philosophy

My approach to teaching and learning has always been 'You have to reach them, to teach them.' If students are not engaged, if the material isn't relatable to them or interesting to them, the likelihood of them learning and retaining new information is small. As a teacher, part of my job is to take the content and curriculum that is provided and mold and shape it into PreK-sized pieces that students will want to engage in and with. In addition to manipulating and presenting the material to students, as a Special Education teacher, I recognized that children with special needs and all children sometimes need more than just engagement, and they need individual support and instruction at times. Meeting children where they are at in their skill acquisition and moving them forward in their learning is building foundations for future learning.

Welcome!

Hello Friends! I'm so glad you came by to visit our class website. Here you can find out all of the exciting things we are doing in our First Grade classroom in the Chandler Unified School District at Shumway Elementary School in Chandler, Arizona.

My Education and Professional Background

I have been teaching for early childhood education 12 years. While attending Arizona State University, I had the opportunity to teach preschool. I started teaching two year olds and then the following semester I assisted teaching four year olds. I absolutely fell in love with the way they saw the world when I introduced new things! Once I graduated from Arizona State University, I couldn't wait to teach the primary grades. It was why I went back to school! I was lucky to find a position at Shumway teaching preschool in the morning and kindergarten in the afternoon. I taught full-day kindergarten for 5 years and this is my eighth year teaching first grade! I strive to make learning successful for each child. It is fun to watch the growth the students make in just one year!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as a educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people.

Welcome to Kindergarten! I am so pleased that your child will be part of our leaders learning community! Your child's unique gifts can help them learn to their highest potential. Families are a very important part in this process and I look forward to working with you!

My Education and Professional Background

I am a third-generation educator. This is my seventeenth year as a teacher. I began my career in Ohio. I have taught kindergarten, first, and third grade. My husband and I are proud parents of four wonderful children. I received a Master of Education degree from The Ohio State University with certification in elementary education (K-8) and also my Bachelor of Fine Arts cum laude in Dance Performance from The Ohio State University. In addition to my classroom teaching experiences, I am a classically trained dancer and choreographer. During undergrad I performed as a member of The Ohio State University Dance Company. I have a special interest in working with students in such extracurricular activities as school musicals and other dance and choreographed movement opportunities including being the ballet mistress for a youth dance company, and a teacher of pre-ballet, ballet, and modern dance.

My Educational Philosophy

A teacher is blessed with an opportunity to interact with a student for an entire year. I am involved in the development of a human mind; I witness along with the family the stages the child progresses through life. I feel the greatest reward of teaching is when I see a break through with a student who has been struggling with an aspect of their learning. This is exciting because we accomplished something together. Also, I enjoy the challenge of teaching. Enriching the learning environment for highly motivated student and watching him or her move to the next level or unlocking a puzzle for a child who is struggling is hard work but very rewarding. Finally, I decided to become a teacher because I like learning. The process of acquiring education is an adventure into the unknown. I would like to be a part of a student's adventure and to encourage him or her to take risks and develop his or her own ideas. Teaching is where I want to be!

Welcome to 5th grade! I am so excited to begin the school year and see all the progress that is made this year! Fifth graders will be experiencing many new and exciting hands on projects, writing assignments, and real-life applications of the curriculum. Fifth grade is an extremely pivotal time for students-a unique time because it is the bridge between the primary grades and middle school. Each student will be guided to excel to the best of their ability, both academically and socially.

My Education and Professional Background

I attended Arizona State University and graduated in 2011. This will be my fifth year teaching. I previously taught in the Balsz School District, teaching both fourth and fifth grade. Teaching has always been a passion of mine from the time I was a small child. I know that it is my true calling!

My Educational Philosophy

I want to make learning memorable and fun for all students. I believe that all students are unique and can learn. Not every child learns the same way and no one knows your child better than you. I believe that having a strong partnership between teachers and parents can help students to be their most effective selves. I welcome your support and input in the effort to help your child reach their individual goals this school year. I also believe that each child deserves an individualized education, based on their needs. This helps to ensure that each child can reach their greatest potential in fifth grade. This is my twelfth year teaching second grade at Shumway. Before that, I taught third grade in Tucson for a little less than a year. I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona. GO WILDCATS! I also received my masters degree from Northern Arizona University.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe every student has the potential to be successful! I enjoy seeing students realize this on their own. In my classroom, we use a lot of hands-on activities and try to make learning fun and memorable. I hope to motivate my students to always put forth their best effort and know that the sky is the limit! I also believe it is very important to have a teacher-parent-student relationship. The connection between home and school really does make a difference for each child

Welcome to my website. Thank you for visiting.

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated with honors from the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University. My degree is in both, elementary education and special education. Before education I had two successful careers in automotive and home loans. As a teacher I have had 5 years of teaching and learning in a variety of special education and general education classrooms.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that education is only useful if you know what to do with the information gained. Within my classroom walls, I create experiences for students to use their new found knowledge. These experiences happen because there is a trust between classmates, where mistakes are proof that we are trying and correct answers are not what we are always looking for.

My Educational Philosophy

Music is an academic discipline. It incorporates aspects of math, language, history, reading, and science. It exercises the entire human brain with lessons in technique, rhythm, vocabulary, and notes reading. Students who participate in musical instruction benefit across all academic subjects. Student participation in orchestral groups encourages an environment of teamwork and self-discipline.
