Auxier Elementary (2023-2024)
Evan Corbin, 5th Grader at Auxier Elementary School, competed at the USA National Championships and Team Trials in July. Evan brought home a Bronze medal representing Arizona and Chandler Martial Arts Center!
Auxier Elementary (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Auxier Elementary sixth grader Lundyn Smith has been a SUPERSTAR on the Casteel Junior High Academic Pentathlon team this year. During the state competition Lundyn was named 1st in the state in three of the five events and the top sixth grader in science. She was #1 overall for honors sixth graders. She also beat all honors seventh graders and only one honors eighth grader outscored her. Lundyn and Casteel advance to Nationals which will be held in about a month. Arizona is one of the top states in Pentathlon, so she is a legitimate contender for National Champion. Coach Sheila Wilson is very excited to have her join the pentathlon class next year. Sixth graders from feeder schools are eligible to compete on the Casteel team, but generally must study on their own to prepare for competition (can't attend class or club).

Auxier celebrated Leadership Day on February 24 with the goal to "Inspire the Leader Within!" Leader in Me is Franklin Covey's whole-school improvement process based on the idea that everyone can be a leader. Congratulations to kindergarten teacher Stephanie Moore who won the Apple Achievement Award, Angie Liu who was named the Outstanding Volunteer, and sixth grader Sam Egen who is the Superintendent Citizenship winner from Auxier Elementary for 2021. Read their stories here!

Auxier Elementary third grade teacher Maureen Alger was named the Sun Lakes Rotary November 2020 Rotarian of the Month. She joined the club in October 2018. She served on the education committee, stepped up and led the September and October 2020 Teachers of the Month selections, and helped present the awards to the teachers.

Auxier Elementary's media center celebrated "National Talk Like a Pirate Day" by showcasing a variety of authors and books for students.

Auxier Elementary was awarded a $5,000 SRP Learning Grant that will be used to purchase LEGO Mindstorms Education EV3 Core Sets and LEGO Mindstorms Expansion Sets. These sets will help students explore new and innovative ways to solve problems through hands-on creativity, design and programming skills. LEGO projects at Auxier Elementary support all aspects of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM) as students use interactive, model-based engineering design methods to build. Auxier Elementary held their Leadership Day on Thursday, Feb. 27, showcasing their Leadership skills.

Auxier Elementary fifth graders in Lindsay Leischner's class combined a valentine party with a STEM project. Students worked in groups using a rubber band and some ribbon in order to stack cups.

Auxier Elementary students "Green Team" action team created a recycling program and school garden. In January, they were honored to have Dave the Garden Guy out to the school to film a segment for the Channel 3 news. He helped the students learn more about gardening and plant a new crop.

Superintendent's Student Citizenship Award winner: Damarius Randolph arrived at Auxier with a positive attitude on day one, ready to make 6th grade his best year yet. Instead of letting challenges defeat him, he started this year on the right foot. Damarius is kind and caring to his peers, always willing to help others in need. His positive personality is contagious! Damarius is a role model who embodies the seven habits.
Auxier Elementary (2019-2020)
Auxier Elementary fifth grade went back in time to 1777 and experienced the harsh winter at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, for a lesson on "American Revolution-Valley Forge.�" Groups of students wrote and performed skits based on actual events that occurred. Thanks to the great leadership of George Washington, they survived Valley Forge.

Congratulations to Auxier teacher Stephanie Moore who recently earned National Board Certification. The process was rigorous, but worthwhile. National Board Certification was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. It is the most respected professional certification available in K-12 education. Created by teachers, for teachers, the National Board Standards represent a consensus among educators about what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. Board certification is available in 25 certificate areas spanning 16 disciplines from Pre-K through 12th grade. National Board for Professional Teaching Standards website

Exemplary Principal: Congratulations to Principal Tony Smith who was surprised on May 2 with the news that he was named a 2019 Exemplary Principal by the Maricopa County School Superintendent's office. His staff pulled him outside with the ruse that there was snake needing to be chased away. Click here to watch the Facebook video.

Auxier Elementary earmed the "Lighthouse" school status. The Leader in Me Lighthouse certification is a highly regarded recognition for outstanding achievement. Lighthouse Certification is evidence that Auxier has produced outstanding results in school and student outcomes, by implementing the Leader in process with fidelity and excellence. It is also evidence of the extraordinary impact that the school is having on staff, students, parents, and the community.

Auxier Elementary Principal Tony Smith was selected as a semifinalist for the Maricopa County Exemplary Principal award by the Maricopa County Education Service Agency. The winner will be announced this spring.

Auxier teacher Barbara Dethlefsen was named the Sun Lakes Rotary teacher of the month for September and was recognized at an awards luncheon in November. She received a framed certificate and a $100 personal award from the Sun Lakes Rotary and an additional $100 to be used in the classroom from Trust Bank.

Auxier Elementary on Monday welcomed visiting teachers from Japan. They visited classrooms to see how an American school operates.

Auxier Elementary was recognized as a Project Lead the Way (PLTW ) Distinguished School. There were only three schools recognized as such in Arizona and CUSD has two of them! The PLTW recognition program is designed to honor district and schools committed to increasing student access, engagement and achievement in their PLTW programs. Congratulations to 6th Grade award winners Eleanor Andersen and Ashton Palmer who won 3rd Place in Engineering at the 2018 Hamilton Invitational Science and Engineering Fair (HISEF) for the project titled Does the angle of the ping pong catapult affect the distance of where it lands?. Auxier Elementary (2017-2018)
Our Auxier Student Council is all about service. In addition to helping our immediate community (Toy drive, food drive, etc.), we also go to Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) every year so that the kids can see the impact that they can make around the world. FMSC is great because students can see instantly who and how many children they helped feed. This year our packed meals will feed 111 kids in Jamaica. Feed My Starving Children website

Congratulations to our 23 Auxier teachers who were awarded over $5,000 in grant money from the Chandler Education Foundation (CEF). Projects include technology for Auxier News, reading resources, learning with butterflies materials, and musical instruments. Way to go, Auxier Teachers!

Auxier Elementary showed its appreciation for Veterans with their second annual Veterans Day Ceremony. Over 80 Veterans were present, including Pearl Harbor survivor Jack Holder. Students from Mrs. Sands' second grade class participated in an "informance" with a Thanksgiving theme. Students sang, danced and played instruments. Parents were invited to participate in an activity as well.

Auxier students from both cadet and senior choirs attended the Arizona Coyotes 4th Annual Sing for Santa program. Many choirs from the valley attended this event. We sang the national anthem and sang popular holiday songs after the first and second periods. Each singer received a T-shirt and hat. We sang the Coyotes to a victory over the New Jersey team!

Auxier participated in Hour of Code in technology class and library class. Students explored activities in Code.org, Scratch, and Tynker to build computer science skills in computational thinking and problems solving. Altogether, students in all grades wrote over 100,000 lines of code! Auxier Technology Homepage

Congratulations to Auxier 5th grade student Joshua Corbin who was the Bronze Medal Winner at both the 2017 Junior International Cup Championships and the 2017 Ozawa Cup international karate tournaments held in Las Vegas, Nevada in April.
