Welcome!

Welcome to second grade! I am extremely excited to be back in the classroom learning and growing with my students. It is going to be a great year!

My Education and Professional Background

I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State University, my Master of Education in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University, and my Master of Education in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University. I have earned my Reading Specialist, Early Childhood Education, Structured English Immersion, and Media Specialist endorsements. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy, Reading, and Language Arts. I love to learn new things! I have taught various grades in my career. I had my practicum in first grade and student taught in second grade. I taught fourth grade, kindergarten, and library. I cannot choose a favorite grade because I just love working with all kids!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe a classroom should be a warm and welcoming environment. It should be a place where students love to grow and take risks with their learning. Kids are capable of amazing things, and it is my job for my students to see that in themselves. I will also be sharing my strong passion for books and reading; my goal is to develop a lifelong love of literature and reading in my students. I want kids to be excited to curl up with a good book, and have the skills to be a strong reader.

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from Mary Lou Fulton at Arizona State University. Go Sun Devils! I have spent most of time in fourth grade and decided I was ready for a new challenge. Fifth grade here I come! I have worked with both the Spalding and Saxon Math programs. Both programs provide students with the scaffolding repetition and application that leads them to mastery. I teach students to take responsibility for their actions. Students learn how to have an active role as part of a team. I teach students to believe and achieve more than they ever thought possible. I teach higher level thinking, the importance in questioning, and communication. How do I Teach: I teach with specifically set high expectations and goals. I teach with a variety of instructional strategies and techniques. I use a variety of methods to deliver content. I consider and use each student’s strengths. Fifth graders will be experiencing many new and exciting hands-on projects, reports, writing assignments, and real-life applications of the curriculum. Fifth grade is an extremely pivotal time for children - a unique time because it is a bridge between the primary grades and middle school. It is our job to guide students to excel, both academically and socially. They will be encouraged throughout the year to increase their self-reliance in preparation for the transition to sixth grade.

I welcome your input and support in the effort to help your child reach their goals this year. I guess you could call me a Lifelong Learner dedicated to education! I taught Early Childhood Special Education my first year out of college. Since then I've been teaching 6th grade.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as a educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people.

Welcome!

Welcome to 4th grade! My name is Christie DeCarlo-Merone. My husband and I relocated from NY in 2003 to start our family. We are blessed with a son and a daughter who bring us such joy. I am looking forward to teaching students how to be leaders, problem solvers, and critical thinkers, as well as, arming them with the knowledge they need to be successful learners. I uphold high expectations for students, and I know together we can meet them.

My Education and Professional Background

I completed my honors program and received my Masters degree in Special and Elementary Education from Manhattanville College in NY. I also majored in history and have a minor in art. I have taught every grade level focusing on students with disabilities for the past twelve years for Gilbert Public Schools. I have grown so much professionally over these years. I am passionate about continuing to participate in professional development, so I can share new ideas with parents, students and colleagues. I am particularly interested in the exploration of differentiated instruction in an effort to meet the needs of diverse learning styles.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that all students can learn and it’s my job as an educator to help cultivate their strengths and provide opportunities for growth in areas of weakness. I believe students need feedback to grow, as a result it is essential to communicate with both students and parents. It is also equally important, to build a supportive classroom community, so students feel comfortable to take risks and where mistakes are viewed as opportunities to learn and grow. I think high expectations and standards should be set for students, but that I need to use a variety of instructional techniques for students to achieve their personal goals. I feel strongly that there should not be a cookie cutter classroom or one size fits all class, because students learn differently and have different interests. At the end of the day it is my goal to have students enjoy learning.

My name is Barbara Dethlefsen and I am thrilled to be the music teacher at Auxier Elementary School!! I have been teaching music in Chandler since 2008. I have taught music in Michigan as well and have been teaching for over 20 years. I have five children and three grandchildren. I am a Michigan State University graduate (Go Spartans!). In my spare time I love to walk, read, play piano, play with my grandchildren and go to music events. I am looking forward to a great year!

My Education and Professional Background

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and Music Therapy from Michigan State University. I have been a professional keyboardist and accompanist, and private piano teacher. I have also taught band and orchestra. I taken many post graduate classes and attend several music workshops during the year through the Arizona Orff Association.

My Educational Philosophy

An appreciation for music develops beautiful human beings. I believe that all children should have music experiences as young as possible. All can become musically literate as they are language literate. Through various experiences in music; singing, movement, listening and instrument experimentation children will internalize musicianship skills. They will learn about rhythm, melody, harmony, style, dynamics and form. Inner hearing should precede playing music. Children can experience joy and learn cooperation through ensemble playing and singing of music from many genres and cultures. Since music making is a gift of lifetime enjoyment it should be a very important and integral part of a child’s education. As your child’s music teacher, I will strive to provide them with the best possible music experiences to help them enjoy music throughout their life and to hopefully create a more beautiful world in the process.

Welcome!

Welcome to Auxier Elementary Physical Education. It's going to be a great school year! I look forward to meeting all my students and our new families. My goal, as a physical education teacher, is to teach my students how to live a healthy and active lifestyle through physical activity. I want students to leave my class, knowing that they did their best, and feel success about the day's activities.

My Education and Professional Background

Bachelors of Arts - Physical Education K-12 - Western New Mexico University 1985. Masters of Arts - School of Administration - Western New Mexico University 1993. Teaching experience - 30 years in Physical Education - 16 years in Chandler Unified School District.

My Educational Philosophy

The purpose of elementary physical education is to provide an opportunity for students to participate in a variety of physical activities which develop the physical and mental skills needed to be successful in team, individual and lifetime sports and fitness. Elementary physical education classes teach the importance of physical activity for the general well-being of students and help instill a positive attitude toward fitness now, and in the future. Classes also benefit the social dimension of children as they learn to work and play with others.

Welcome!

I am elated to have the honor to be your child's fourth grade teacher this year! Thank you for taking the time to look at my district website. My husband, baby daughter, and I, have made Chandler our beloved home. Some activities I enjoy include: spending precious time with family and friends, attempting new recipes, reading, rejuvenating with exercise, and attending both Cardinal Football games and U of A games in Tucson. I look forward to a memorable school year!

My Education and Professional Background

Born and raised in scenic Tucson, Arizona, I attended the University of Arizona (Bear Down Red and Blue!), where I earned a Master's degree in Language, Reading, and Culture and a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (with a focus in Bilingual Education). It sounds unbelievable as I type this but, I have been in education since the Fall of 2000. I taught for eight years in elementary schools in Tucson, ranging from kindergarten- third grade. I then relocated to the Phoenix area and taught one year in the Kyrene District for an elementary English Language Learner program. My next teaching adventure was three years in the Tempe District, teaching Spanish in middle school. I was a fifth grade teacher at CTA Humphrey for four years. I'm beyond excited to begin a new chapter at Auxier teaching fourth grade.

My Educational Philosophy

I pursued a career in teaching because I strongly believe in my vital role as a teacher to help shape ALL students into individuals who not only succeed within the classroom, but also learn the invaluable skills to be successful citizens of our world. Reminding them that with perseverance, dedication, belief in one's abilities and hard work, anything is possible.

Welcome!

I am excited for another year of working with wonderful students.

My Education and Professional Background

I have my MED in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona State University, my BA in Elementary Education from Arizona State University, endorsements in SEI & Technology, and I am working on my gifted endorsement. I spent my first four years as a 4th grade teacher at Power Ranch Elementary in Gilbert, Arizona. Then, I moved to Wyoming and was a Math Coach for a year, and Literacy Coach for two years. After a few snowy winters, we moved back to sunny Arizona. I spent four years teaching fifth grade CATS at Jacobson Elementary, and now I am excited to be teaching sixth grade reading at Auxier.

My Educational Philosophy

I have a passion for education and love working with children! My goal is to create life-long learners who continue to soar to the top. I believe that all children have the ability to learn and it is my goal to help meet the needs of each of our special Aviators. I feel so fortunate to be a part of the Auxier community as a parent and teacher. I'm looking forward to a successful year!

Welcome!

Welcome to Mrs. Schildgen's webpage! A little about me...I was born and raised in Iowa and moved to Arizona in 1995 with my husband, Rick. I love living in the southwest and enjoy doing anything outdoors... camping, hiking, running and playing volleyball with my family. I have three kids who keep me hopping with their many activities.

My Education and Professional Background

I earned a Bachelor's degree at the University of Iowa (Go Hawks!) in English and Secondary Education. I went on to pursue a career in Marketing, working for corporations such as McCulloch and Black & Decker. After 15 years in the corporate world, I decided to return to the field I love and earned a Master's degree in Special Education and Elementary Education from ASU in 2012 and taught at Riggs Elementary as a resource teacher.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that each child is a unique individual with their own special talents and gifts. I strive to provide a learning environment that is respectful, compassionate and allows all students to be successful. Students are encouraged to set goals, take risks, make mistakes, and share their ideas.

Welcome!

Welcome to the world of technology at Auxier Elementary! Tech class is an exciting new addition to the Music, PE, and Library classes currently at Auxier! Tech class provides an opportunity for students to safely explore the world of technology through hands-on practicing, designing, creating, building, collaborating, and sharing. Our goal is for Auxier students to enter secondary, higher education, and careers with the technical skills and knowledge of a growing and evolving digital world.

My Education and Professional Background

I began my teaching career after graduating from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1996. I have enjoyed teaching music, band, and choir in all grades (Pre-K through 12), in Washington State, Indiana, and Arizona since 1996. Starting in the 2017-2018 school year, I chose to shift my focus from music to technology and I am honored to join the Auxier community as their technology specialist. I have studied at Indiana University / Purdue University - Indianapolis, Arizona State University, and Walden University in the areas of Computer Science, Computer Programming, Educational Technology, Music Technology, Instructional Technology and Design, and English as a Second Language. I have an MS-IDT from Walden University and am a current member of ISTE and CSTA.

My Educational Philosophy

My passions include exploring innovative strategies to improve my teaching and the overall environment at my school. I strive to create a safe, nurturing, and enjoyable classroom environment for my students. My goals are not only centered around the technical concepts and skills (of course that is important!), but also to learn to respect the importance digital citizenship and practice this in our everyday lives. My role is more of a facilitator than as a teacher, to guide students as we explore new and innovative tools and become strong digital citizens together.

Welcome!

Hello. I am Lucile Kellis. I teach orchestra in the Chandler Unified School District. I am a traveling teacher because I teach at multiple schools every day. I teach around two hundred 5th and 6th grade students each year.

My Education and Professional Background

Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education with strings concentration from ASU, 2005 and 2010

My Educational Philosophy

I love teaching children to play orchestral instruments. I consider my teaching as a partnership with parents as we encourage our students to practice regularly at home and bring their instrument and music to school on the correct days for orchestra class. If my students will try their best to do as I instruct, they will learn to play well. This will bring joy and happiness to themselves and to their family members for their entire life. My orchestras are known for their excellent performances.

Welcome!

Welcome to band!

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a BMed: Instrumental and a minor is psychology. I grew up in the Chandler School District, graduating top of my class from Chandler High School. I previously taught Prekindergarten through 3rd grade general music and fourth through eighth grade band in addition to guitar and ukulele classes in the Wilson School District in Downtown Phoenix.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that everyone has the right to music. Music is for everyone regardless of whether they have formal training or not. Music is also one of the hardest areas to master as it can never be mastered. For students, from beginners to professionals, there is never an end goal and there is always a new boundary to be broken. Music should be in the minds of everyone at a basic level as so much of our surrounding world feeds into and comes from music traditions.

Welcome!

Welcome to my Kindergarten class! I am so happy to be a part of this great community at Auxier. We will have a fun, exciting year in Kindergarten, and it will be awesome to see your child learn and grow. I look forward to our partnership, and please feel free to contact me anytime.

My Education and Professional Background

I am originally from the Akron area in Ohio until I moved to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona (Go Wildcats!) where I received my bachelor of arts in education with a minor in social/behavioral science. I also continued my education with graduate coursework in educational leadership. I have been teaching since 2003 and have taught all grades 1st-5th.

My Educational Philosophy

My educational philosophy is that every student deserves the best education and opportunities available. Each student has unique talents that are waiting to be discovered or cultivated. Students need their teacher to believe in them and give them a chance to demonstrate their strengths. The best results come from parents, teachers and students working together to achieve an important goal, which is to provide the student with the support they need to feel successful.
