I am so excited to be teaching music at Jacobson! Music is my passion, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to share that with your child. My overall goal this year is for your child to have a better understanding and appreciation for music. During each music class, your child will participate in activities that are designed to build different musical skills. Throughout the year, your students will be singing, dancing, playing instruments, composing and improvising, and performing.
My Education and Professional Background
I recently graduated with my Bachelors of Music Education from the University of Michigan-Flint. During that time, I played the flute in various ensembles. I did my student teaching at Lapeer East High School in Michigan. I taught both Concert Band and Symphony Band. I also assisted with the marching band. Along with high school, I also assisted with three beginning bands in the district. Before coming to Jacobson, I taught K-5 general music at Eagle Harmony Elementary School. I am currently a member of the National Association for Music Education (Name) and the American Orff-Schoolwork Association (AOSA).
My Educational Philosophy
As a music teacher, I believe all students should have the opportunity to learn music. My classroom should be a place where students can express themselves individually and with others. I want to help students become independent musicians, capable of performing, evaluating, and creating music.
