Welcome!

Hello and welcome to your child’s sixth grade class! My name is Brittany Shirkey (Mrs. Shirkey), and I absolutely love teaching. I have a serious passion for learning and can't wait to ensure that your child is learning up to his or her potential! As my favorite quote from Leonardo Da Vinci implies, I think it’s important to instill a love of learning from an early age. Above all, my job is to promote the idea that learning is truly a lifelong journey that is not only important but also fun.

My Education and Professional Background

My unquenched desire to learn and subsequent dream to teach were fostered right here in Chandler, Arizona! I first attended a CUSD school in third grade and later became a graduate of Chandler High School (go Wolves!). In addition, my husband and I met at CHS in 2003! We have two beautiful daughters, Amariah, who is two and Ayla, who is in third grade. I understand all the challenges related to raising and guaranteeing a great education for my child as well. I earned my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from ASU (go Devils!). My career began teaching first grade in Mesa, and I am so excited to be finally working in the district I was in. Growing up in Chandler, I was blessed to be a part of a caring, supportive, and loving community. I had fantastic teachers that made me believe that I could do anything I set my mind to. My hope as an educator is to give the same attention and care to my future students and have them enjoy learning for a lifetime.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe in providing my students with a safe and caring environment. I believe in allowing students to be free to explore new ideas. I believe in making sure they are cared for and loved, no matter their status. I want to instill a lifelong love of learning and a strong connection to their community. I truly believe we live and work in one of the best cities in the Nation
