About
Carey...
Welcome, Andersen Astronauts! My name is Larkin Carey, and I am the School Social Worker at Andersen Elementary. I am originally from Southwest Michigan but moved to Arizona a little over two years ago- I am loving the non-stop sunshine! I am so excited to join the wonderful team at Andersen Elementary and get to know all the students!
My Education and Professional Background
I attended Grand Valley State University where I received my B.S. in Criminal Justice with minors in both Juvenile Justice and Psychology. I then continued my education at Grand Valley State University and earned my Masters in School Work (MSW). Since moving to Arizona, I have worked in community behavioral health, specializing in work within the infant and early childhood population. I am passionate about working with kiddos, and their families, and am excited to start my journey at Andersen Elementary
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that if a student knows they have a caring relationship with, even just one, staff member at school it can make a world of difference in that student's life. I believe it is important to understand that no two students are alike, and that in order for a student to be successful, not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well, one must be treated with an individualized, strengths based, approach. As a result, we are then able to work together able to identify and alleviate barriers to a student's education and overall well-being. "One person can make a difference, and everyone should try." -John Fitzgerald Kennedy
