Jacobson Third, Fourth, Fifth and sixth grade gifted students are studying the similarities and differences between growing vegetables in the dirt versus growing vegetables in a hydroponic garden to see the differences between these dynamic food systems! This week, students determined what plants need similar types of nutrients in the hydroponic garden, so when our young farmers add minerals and vitamins to the water, they ensure the plants are getting just what they need. So far, several types of lettuce and herbs have been planted to grow together in the hydroponic garden!
Our learners are studying different ways to grow food to support their study of the United Nations 17 Sustainability goals, which include sustainable communities, responsible consumption and production, as well as climate action and zero hunger.
Students are using lessons from the ASU Sustainability Teachers' Academy with lessons about Food Systems.
