Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) The students in Mrs. Mundt-Nichols class are enjoying the balance chairs in their classroom. The chairs, which help the students concentrate and stay focused, were purchased with a FedEx grant awarded to Mrs. Mundt-Nichols in May 2018. Thanks, FedEx!
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Congratulations to 4th grade students Lisa Campbell and Caycee Mathis who were selected as two of the 19 winners in the 15th Annual City of Chandler Environmental Art contest. The winners' artwork were selected based on expressing a commitment to the environment and the future of Chandler. Winners will be honored on April 19th in the City Council Chambers. Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Basha Elementary kicked off Read Across America week by celebrating Dr. Seuss and his famed books. Monday was Cat in the Hat day. Basha kindergarten teachers Cynthia Contreras, Lynne Jacobs and Arwen Lee joined in the festivities by dressing up as the Cat in the Hat.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Congratulations to Basha 6th graders Carie Dumont and Logan Polen who participated in district-wide auditions and were selected to participate in the CUSD Honor Band. The band rehearsed for three weeks and then put on a concert at Hamilton High School, playing advanced musical selections.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) The Basha Elementary Choir participated in the Choral Festival at the Chandler Center for the Arts. Under the direction of Music Teacher Megan Vogus, the Basha Choir consists of 4th, 5h and 6th graders.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) The Basha Elementary third grade recently completed a thinking map during the month of January and Black History Month. The classes used a thinking map while learning about Martin Luther King, Jr.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Basha Elementary's third grade classes set a goal to raise $100 in coins for the 100th day of school to donate to Phoenix Children's Hospital.The students surpassed that goal with their kindness and generosity by donating over $800 in just one day!
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) The Basha Elementary choir, under the direction of music teacher Megan Vogus, visited the Ocotillo Village Retirement Center to sing holiday songs to the residents. The choir, consisting of third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students, walked to the retirement home in December as part of walking field trip.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Congratulations to Basha teacher Mrs. Mundt-Nichols who recieved a $500 Grant from FedEx. Representatives from FedEx were on the Basha Elementary campus with a FedEx truck and a NASCAR vehicle to present the check in November.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Basha Elementary Student Council organized a successful Turkey Trot to benefit the Chandler CARE Center's Thanksgiving Meal Distribution. Basha families donated donated 150 turkey to help feed families in need for Thanksgiving.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) The Basha administration thanked the 6th grade Bus Buddies for their commitment to helping our Bobcat Kindergartners get off the bus and to their classrooms every morning. The 6th graders have committed to working with the Kindergartners for the entire school year to help them navigate the playground. The Bus Buddies ended the week before Fall Break with donuts to start off the day.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) The Chandler Unified School District and Chandler Fire Department have joined together to teach kids about fire safety through Partnership for L.I.F.E. Chandler firefighters visited Basha Elementary first and second grade classrooms in early September to teach the students about fire safety.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Basha Elementary Staff enjoyed a treat while supporting victims of Hurricane Harvey. Hurt's Donuts donated all proceeds of a special Texas Donut to the victim relief fund.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Our Basha mascot, Zoomer the Bobcat, was nominated as Best Mascot of Chandler. Good luck, Zoomer!
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Basha staff joined Black Rock Coffee and other district employees in supporting the Denning family at a fundraiser in support of the Denning kids.
Basha Elementary - (2016-2017) First grade teacher Arianna Mehl was nominated for the Breyer Teacher of the Month for October. She was awarded a $250 check from Mark Breyer from the Law Firm of Breyer and Breyer.
Basha Elementary - (2016-2017) Basha kindergarten teacher, Shirley Lenz, was recognized as KNIX's Teacher of the Week and awarded a $300 gift card.
Basha Elementary - (2016-2017) Mrs. Olson's 3rd grade class participated in a mock trial with retired Superior Court Judge Mark Aceto. The students were asked to consider the evidence against the wolf in the story of The Three Little Pigs. The students were broken up into groups of lawyers, jury and witnesses for the prosecution and defense. The experience in August was an extension of the story The Trial of Cardigan Jones and You Be the Jury.
Basha Elementary - (2015-2016) Congratulations to Basha custodians Eddie Soto Jr., Eloise Navarrette, and Eddie Navarro, recipients of the 2015-2016 Clean School Award. Our custodians have received this award for more than 10 years! We are so proud of the work and pride they take in caring for Basha Elementary, our students and staff.
Basha Elementary - (2015-2016) Thank you to Mrs. Northrop, Mrs. Sheffield, Mr. Noder and the Basha Student Council for their help in setting up this fundraiser, and the entire Basha community for supporting this cause. Basha Elementary knocked it out of the ball park with generous contributions that will allow Heaven Cent to update tools (including a new drill press) and purchase work tables, materials and postage, as well as continue to provide Heaven Cents free of charge to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Basha Elementary - (2015-2016) Each teacher at Basha picks a VIP student. Then, the Basha Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) provides a full catered breakfast for our VIP and the parents. Each teacher presents an award to the VIP and says a few words as to why they chose that student as their VIP. It is truly a nice ceremony and award that our families enjoy!
Basha Elementary - (2015-2016) Kudos to those from CUSD who attended the recent Relay for Life of Chandler event hosted by Basha High School on April 29. Over 400 staff and students, represented by Basha Elementary, CTA Freedom, Patterson, Riggs, Ryan, Payne, Basha High, Chandler High, Hamilton High and Perry High, attended the 12 hour overnight event where teams committed to have members walk throughout the night. Over $162,000 has been raised by participants with funds supporting cancer research and patients. Relay for Life of Chandler
Basha Elementary - (2015-2016) Basha celebrated Read Across America/Dr. Seuss' Birthday with numerous activities this week. We had players from ASU, Eric Jacobson, HHS baseball players and coaches, Perry HS softball players, an author visit: Geoff Rodkey, and even a visit from Tutu the Ostrich in honor of the Ostrich Festival that was held at Tumbleweed Park. This years theme was "Drop Everything And Read." Daily announcements had students from the different class levels reading from their favorite Dr. Seuss book.
Basha Elementary - (2015-2016) Aiden Felix, Gavin Noreus, and Jonathan Probst were selected to perform in the CUSD elementary honor band!
Basha Elementary - (2015-2016) Basha Elementary's Student Council sponsored Purple Day in honor of The Epilepsy Foundation in honor of one of our teachers whose son passed away from epilepsy. Together, our students and staff raised $410 for the Epilepsy Foundation in honor of team Michael's Angels! Staff even joined in on the Epilepsy walk held this past weekend, Saturday February 6, 2016.
Basha Elementary - (2015-2016) Basha Elementary hosted Cory McClosky on National Weatherperson Day, February 9, 2016. Students gathered before school, made signs, chanted for Cory, showed off their science projects (which was greatly affected by the weather), and our Media Club interviewed Mr. McCloskey!
Basha Elementary - (2015-2016) Sixth grader, Aiden Felix was the Basha Elementary Spelling Bee Champion. Aiden went on to the District Spelling Bee where he finished 19th overall! We are so proud of Aiden!
Basha Elementary - (2014-2015) Basha Elementary's Veterans Day tradition is to create a Wall of Service. Honoring those with us and those who have passed. Basha Elementary students showed compassion by honoring hundreds of military men and women with their display of stars.
Basha Elementary - (2014-2015) Logan Saloman, 5th grade student at Basha Elementary, recently competed in the North American Finals of the Hershey Track and Field Games in Hershey, PA. Logan earned a free trip to Hershey after winning the 10 yr. old Softball toss in the Arizona State games in Peoria on May 31st. In the competition on Saturday August 2nd, Logan placed third, receiving a Bronze Medal for his softball toss of 141' 10". Logan said, 'I was proud to have represented Arizona and enjoyed meeting new friends.'
Basha Elementary - (2014-2015) The Arizona Department of Education announced that Basha Elementary earned an 'A' grade for the 2013-2014 school-year. Basha Elementary - (2013-2014) Basha Elemetary students in Mrs. King's 5th grade class participated in the Sally Ride EarthKAM project and the first student-taken pictures just came back from the International Space Station! Basha Elementary - (2012-2013) Sixteen Basha teachers, staff, and parents participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life at Basha High School on Friday, May 3rd. The team has been raising funds for cancer research and services with a goal of reaching $3,000. Donations are still coming in and they are up to $4, 239.89 so far! During the event, relayers took turns walking or running from 6pm to 6am. Cancer doesn't sleep, so they didn't either.
Basha Elementary - (2012-2013) Basha Elementary's Relay for Life team raised $283 to provide cancer victims with hats, wigs, and scarves. Their donations will go to the Basha Elementary Relay for Life teams to benefit the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life is a 12-hour team walking relay that raises awareness and funds research, advocacy, and other support needs.
Basha Elementary - (2012-2013) Jyl Webster, second grade teacher at Basha Elementary, was recognized as the Sun Lakes Rotary Club 'Teacher of the Month' for September.
Basha Elementary - (2012-2013) Basha Elementary fourth grade teacher Beth Northrop served as a guest coach for the Arizona State University Sun Devils football team in October.

Basha Elementary - (2011-2012) Art Masterpiece Program coordinators Julie Smith and Dana Melcher, partnered with the Arizona Science Center to create a hands-on art project for the kids who visit the AZ Sci. Ctr. Currently on exhibit at the Science Center is Van Gogh Alive! , an interaction event of color and light. Smith and Melcher created two van Gogh-related art lessons and projects, provided supplies and samples, and recruited and trained volunteers to teach the lessons at the AZ Sci. Ctr.
Basha Elementary - (2011-2012) State Science Fair Winners Chemistry category in all divisions: 4th place Stephanie Donovan and Maya Curl, 4th place Izzy Martinez and Shelby Carson.
Basha Elementary - (2011-2012) The Arizona Department of Education announced that Basha Elementary was named an "A" school by the Arizona Department of Education for the 2010-2011 school year. In addition, Basha was labeled an Excelling school. Arizona Department of Education
Basha Elementary - (2011-2012) Weinberg and Basha Elementary represented CUSD in the Battle of the Books regional competition. Chandler had more than 900 students and 30 schools participate. Each student reads 12 pre-selected books and, with their team of three, competes in three school-level contests to determine a school winner. The school winner proceeds to a city semifinal round to compete for a chance to advance to the regionals. America's Battle of the Books
