Basha Elementary - (2019-2020) Basha Elementary's Technology Department is proud to implement zSpace, an AR/VR (Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality) learning experience to increase engagement and meet educational standards in science, math, reading, technology and MORE! Begining in October 2019, students in kindergarten through 6th grade will learn the basics of using the zSpace hardware. SanTan Sun News article: VR takes Chandler students to another dimension
Basha Elementary - (2019-2020) Fifth and sixth Grade students in the AR/VR zSpace STEM Club met for the first time to experience the immersive world of AR/VR (Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality). Students will learn physics, biology, math, language arts, music and MUCH MORE through a hands-on approach. AR/VR brings students unique experiences with content that would otherwise be Dangerous, Impossible, Counterproductive or too Expensive: "D.I.C.E." (Acronym courtesy of Jeremy Bailenson; head of the Stanford Virtual Human Interaction Lab.) AR/VR zSpace Club meets once a week from October through March.
Basha Elementary - (2019-2020) Basha Bobcats enjoyed breakfast with their grandparents at the annual Grandparents' Breakfast. Muffins, coffee, juice and fruit were provided by Basha Elementary's PTO. Families also visited the Follett Book Fair in the Media Center.
Basha Elementary - (2019-2020) Basha Elementary student council representatives decorated the campus in remembrance of September 11, 2001. The main flag was flown at half mast, and smaller American flags lined the front of the school in observation of Patriot Day. Basha Student Council
Basha Elementary - (2019-2020) Sixth grader Kohen Johnson uses his personal savings at the Book Fair to donate a book to the Basha Elementary School Library! Kohen understands the importance of reading, and hopes Bobcats enjoy the book he selected, Who Is Michael Jordan?
Basha Elementary - (2019-2020) Basha fifth grade students on the PAW Patrol practice leadership skills and show their PRIDE in the PACK by volunteering their recess time to help kindergarten students log into the computer.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Chandler Fire Department presented a Heroism Award to Basha sixth grader Kaden Brimhall. Due to his quick actions, Kaden was able to pull the granddaughter of Patterson Elementary first grade teacher Heather Ackerman from a pool and saved her life. Additionally, $1,000 worth of swim lessons are being offered for free and a pool fence is being installed at someone's house, both in his honor. He was also given the "Golden Rule Student of the Month" award by Agree.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Thanks to the Basha PTO who celebrated our teachers by organizing Teacher Appreciation Week activities on a Wizard of Oz theme!
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Our media specialist invited Obert Skye to visit Basha Elementary and do a presentation for our 3rd- 6th graders. Skye is a bestselling American children's writer known for the Leven Thumps series, the Pillage trilogy, and The Creature from My Closet series. Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Technology teacher (and certified MakerBot specialist) Jessica Pfau teaches students in her STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) class how to select and create objects in CAD. Students in 3rd through 6th grade have successfully printed creative designs, and are pleased with their final projects.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) The Basha Elementary track team met with "Zoomer" at the district elementary track meet at Perry High School on April 1.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Principal Jessica Edgar was chosen as the Horace Mann Ruler of the Month, being nominated by peers for her contributions as a leader in CUSD.

Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) U.S. Lacrosse announced that Basha Elementary School was selected to receive a Soft-Stick Equipment Grant (with an approximate retail value of $600.00). Through this grant award, Basha will receive 15 blue and 15 red soft lacrosse sticks, as well as 30 orange soft lacrosse balls.

Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Fifth grade teacher Mr. Soto and the Basha Elementary staff is participating in ColorCycle through Crayola. All used and unwanted markers are being collected in each classroom. The program has been a huge success so far with over 1,000 markers in less than a month! Once the markers are collected, they are shipped to Crayola where they get recycled. Any type of marker can be recycled, no matter the brand or type. We have collected highlighters, Expos, Sharpies, fat and skinny markers of all kind. We are throwing away less plastic in our landfills and protecting our environment. Way to go, Basha Bobcats! Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Basha Elementary fifth grade teacher Beth Northrop was recently named a Silver Apple award recipient by Azfamily. Beth has provided tutoring for student, Kameron Sherman, for two years as he received treatment for his first and second battle with cancer. As a two-time survivor herself, Beth Northrop has forged a life-long relationship with the family. Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) The Arizona Coyotes donated equipment to Basha Elementary. Students and staff have enjoyed using it. Physical Education teacher Josh Waggoner is seen riding the so-called "Zamboni" around the "ice" as third graders play hockey.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Basha 4th - 6th grade P.E. students were invited to the Dream Day at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Thirty Basha students attended. There, they had a chance to practice their golf skills, listen to an interview with Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo and D-backs pitcher Archie Bradley, see golf pro Cameron Champ do a long drive challenge, and watch Joey O. perform a trick shot. The students enjoyed themselves and had a wonderful time.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Jessica Pfau, Basha Elementary technology teacher and certified MakerBot specialist, who was chosen by MakerBot to host a 3D webinar series on How to Integrate 3D printing with K-6 Technology on February 7.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Students brought in 100 cents (or more) to celebrate the 100th day of school. Altogether, they raised $104.46. Students voted to donate the money to Arizona Friends for Life, a nearby no-kill animal shelter. The money will be used to purchase needed items for dogs and cats, such as food, leashes and collars. 100 Day Cent was part of our Kindness Quarter here at Basha Elementary.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Chandler Fire comes to Basha Elementary twice a year to teach the FirePal course on fire safety to our first and second graders. Additionally, throughout the year, teachers lead students in different FirePal safety lessons.
Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) Fourth and fifth grader Creative Filament Club students took part in an AMAZING, interactive and informative presentation on Additive Manufacturing and Medical Device Engineering. Mr. Slater, the father of a 5th grade student, presented information on 3D-printing applications in his career, and had a hands-on demonstration for students to perform a simulated knee replacement with real 3D-printed implants!

Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) The Arizona Cardinals visited Basha Elementary for a Milk and Cookies event with 5th graders as part of a literacy program sponsored by Albertson, Safeway, and the Cardinals.

Basha Elementary - (2018-2019) We raised an amazing $17,605.43 in our two week check-a-thon fundraiser. This will be the only major fundraiser of the year! Upon surpassing our goal of $15,000, Ms. Edgar had to kiss Huxley, the pig!

Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) The students in Mrs. Mundt-Nichols class are enjoying the balance chairs in their classroom. The chairs, which help the students concentrate and stay focused, were purchased with a FedEx grant awarded to Mrs. Mundt-Nichols in May 2018. Thanks, FedEx!
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Congratulations to 4th grade students Lisa Campbell and Caycee Mathis who were selected as two of the 19 winners in the 15th Annual City of Chandler Environmental Art contest. The winners' artwork were selected based on expressing a commitment to the environment and the future of Chandler. Winners will be honored on April 19th in the City Council Chambers. Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Basha Elementary kicked off Read Across America week by celebrating Dr. Seuss and his famed books. Monday was Cat in the Hat day. Basha kindergarten teachers Cynthia Contreras, Lynne Jacobs and Arwen Lee joined in the festivities by dressing up as the Cat in the Hat.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Congratulations to Basha 6th graders Carie Dumont and Logan Polen who participated in district-wide auditions and were selected to participate in the CUSD Honor Band. The band rehearsed for three weeks and then put on a concert at Hamilton High School, playing advanced musical selections.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) The Basha Elementary Choir participated in the Choral Festival at the Chandler Center for the Arts. Under the direction of Music Teacher Megan Vogus, the Basha Choir consists of 4th, 5h and 6th graders.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) The Basha Elementary third grade recently completed a thinking map during the month of January and Black History Month. The classes used a thinking map while learning about Martin Luther King, Jr.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Basha Elementary's third grade classes set a goal to raise $100 in coins for the 100th day of school to donate to Phoenix Children's Hospital.The students surpassed that goal with their kindness and generosity by donating over $800 in just one day!
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) The Basha Elementary choir, under the direction of music teacher Megan Vogus, visited the Ocotillo Village Retirement Center to sing holiday songs to the residents. The choir, consisting of third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students, walked to the retirement home in December as part of walking field trip.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Congratulations to Basha teacher Mrs. Mundt-Nichols who recieved a $500 Grant from FedEx. Representatives from FedEx were on the Basha Elementary campus with a FedEx truck and a NASCAR vehicle to present the check in November.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) Basha Elementary Student Council organized a successful Turkey Trot to benefit the Chandler CARE Center's Thanksgiving Meal Distribution. Basha families donated donated 150 turkey to help feed families in need for Thanksgiving.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) The Basha administration thanked the 6th grade Bus Buddies for their commitment to helping our Bobcat Kindergartners get off the bus and to their classrooms every morning. The 6th graders have committed to working with the Kindergartners for the entire school year to help them navigate the playground. The Bus Buddies ended the week before Fall Break with donuts to start off the day.
Basha Elementary - (2017-2018) The Chandler Unified School District and Chandler Fire Department have joined together to teach kids about fire safety through Partnership for L.I.F.E. Chandler firefighters visited Basha Elementary first and second grade classrooms in early September to teach the students about fire safety.
