Getting to know Mrs. Hess
I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself and explain my teaching background. I was born in Pennsylvania but have spent the majority of my life here in Arizona. I am a graduate of Dobson High School in Mesa and ASU in Tempe.
I decided I wanted to become a teacher after volunteering some time in a classroom here at Basha. The experience proved to be eye opening and deeply rewarding. I quickly found that there was no other profession that I would rather work in. It is truly a privilege to teach and learn with children every day.
I have worked at Basha Elementary for seventeen years. I began at Basha as a full-time instructional assistant for the special education department while I was taking night classes to earn my education degree and waiting tables at a local restaurant. I graduated from ASU in December of 2003 with the highest honors (4.0). I also graduated from University of Phoenix in December of 2009 with my master's degree in curriculum and instruction. I have taught third grade for three years, fourth grade for one year, kindergarten for four years, and second grade for six years. I am very excited to begin another year in third grade this year!
I have a very close and loving family. My husband, Blake, and I have been married for fifteen years. We have two children, Jimmy and Shannon. Jimmy is a fourth grader and Shannon is a second grader here at Basha. We are so blessed to have such loving, healthy and happy children. They have brought such joy to our lives.
We have a black lab who we lovingly named Boomhauer but call him "Boom" for short. We found Boom at an animal shelter in Phoenix. We knew right away that he would be a perfect fit for our family. He has become my shadow and follows me wherever I go. We often take him on car rides, walks, and playdates. He is the gentlest dog and gets along happily with every human and pet friend he meets.
Some of our favorite activities to do as a family are to go to the library and zoo, play chess and video games, read books, have dance parties, visit museums, go hiking and camping, fishing, build huge Lego castles, and play at the park. We also love to go out to eat and go to the movies.
