Welcome to Andersen Elementary, home of the awesome astronauts! Our mission is to empower all students to become resilient problem solvers. We believe we can accomplish this by creating an environment where students are inspired to take risks. Through collaboration, problem solving and exploration, we believe all students can reach their full potential and learn at high levels. Our dedicated staff takes the time to build relationships with each student to ensure students are prepared for the future that awaits them. Thank you for choosing Andersen Elementary and partnering with us to educate your child.
My Education and Professional Background
I hold a BS in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University along with a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. I began my teaching career in 2005 before moving to an assistant principal position in the Higley Unified School District. After three years as an assistant principal I spent three years as a principal in the Scottsdale Unified School District before coming to Andersen Elementary in 2018. My supportive husband and I have two amazing kids and reside here in Chandler. Our spare time is spent exploring the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe relationships are key in order for students to be successful. When students know someone at school cares and loves them they try and perform their best, making academic, social and emotional gains. At Andersen Elementary, we pride ourselves in every student having a positive relationship with at least one staff member. We believe in hard work, perseverance and learning from our mistakes.

Welcome!
Hello, my name is Erica Hopson. I teach kindergarten Autism in a Specialized Special Education Classroom. I am originally from Kansas City Missouri, born and raised. But I’ve traveled and lived in several different states. I most recently moved to Arizona in the summer of 2021 with my son. I’ve worked in the field of Education primarily for children with autism for over 12 years and have been teaching for 4, a total of 16 years. Working in the field of Special Education I feel is my calling, and I absolutely love it!
My Education and Professional Background
I received my bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts including studies in early childhood from the University of Missouri. A master’s in business from Georgia State University, and a master’s in Education in Special Education from Drury University.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe cultivating and creating supportive relationships with parents creates a strong team of advocates for their child. Because there are no two students who are the same; knowing the strengths and weaknesses from those who know them best creates a foundation of bringing out the best attributes for each student. I find this is the best way to serve the student as well as creating a structured, calming, loving, and supportive environment in which to learn. And in time with consistency, they will thrive and flourish in the best way that works for them individually.

"If a child doesn't know how to read, we teach. If a child doesn't know how to swim, we teach. If a child doesn't know how to multiply, we teach. If a child doesn't know how to drive, we teach. My Educational Philosophy
I believe that if a student knows they have a caring relationship with, even just one, staff member at school it can make a world of difference in that student's life. I believe it is important to understand that no two students are alike, and that in order for a student to be successful, not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well, one must be treated with an individualized, strengths based, approach. As a result, we are then able to work together able to identify and alleviate barriers to a student's education and overall well-being. Welcome to Mrs. Donnellan’s class! You can call me Mrs. D. I am so excited to start the year as your teacher and can’t wait to see all of your amazing faces in class.
My Education and Professional Background
I am a native Arizonan and graduated from ASU in 1997 with a Bachelor’s in Special Education. I have been teaching in the public schools and in the private sector for over 20 years.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe learning can be obtained in numerous ways. One child’s path to a goal may be different than another child’s path to the same goal. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and it is my responsibility to help each child foster his/her strengths and tackle his/her weaknesses. I feel creating a welcoming space for learning is so important. As an elementary teacher, I am very aware that I am defining the school experience for my students. I work hard to make that experience a positive, nurturing one. I want each student to be excited to come to class every day.

This was an exciting adventure, but after a year I decided to come back home to the East Valley. I am excited to now be teaching at Andersen Elem.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas.

My Educational Philosophy
"If a child doesn't know how to read, we teach. If a child doesn't know how to swim, we teach. If a child doesn't know how to multiply, we teach. If a child doesn't know how to drive, we teach. If a child doesn't know how to behave, we ...teach? ...punish? Why can't we finish the last sentence as automatically as we do the others?"

I'm extremely excited to begin my new journey in the Chandler Schools. I hope I experience the greatest learning adventures with the Andersen Astronauts.
My Education and Professional Background
My childhood dream came true when I became a teacher in 1999. After graduating from ASU in Elementary Education, I knew that I had become a lifelong learner. Always learning side by side with young children. I have my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, also from Arizona State University.
My Educational Philosophy
The responsibility of being a teacher is one that I do not take lightly. It is my job, within my heart and within my classroom, to ensure the social, emotional and academic growth of every student. I believe that one of my gifts is to be able to reach each child individually; I seek and enrich their strengths and assist them with their successes. We are part of a team…that is reinforced on a daily basis in my classroom. Equally important to me as an educator, is my communication and collaboration with my families. They are a vital piece of our team. Parents are welcomed into my classroom and often assist me with activities.

Welcome! I'm looking forward to working with students at Andersen Elementary.
My Education and Professional Background
I received my BS in Elementary Education from Eastern Montana College, and MS in Special Education from Montana State University-Billings. In 2011, I was honored to receive the Montana Special Education Teacher of the Year award.
My Educational Philosophy
It's interesting to me that many of our salient memories involve our grade school years. People can always remember their favorite teacher. For me, that teacher was Sr. Abby. I adored this woman for so many reasons, and to this day, I strive to emulate her teaching. My philosophy of education is based on what I learned from my 2nd grade teacher: 1) She genuinely loved us. We just "knew" it by the way she treated us. 2) She taught me that being fair meant that everyone received what they needed in order to be successful. 3) Sr. Abby had expectations for everyone and taught us to have high expectations of ourselves. 4) She was creative and engaging. I was always ready for more! Sr. Abby helped mold my teaching career and her influence carries over to the students I work with today!

Welcome families! It's going to be a great school year! I am looking forward to getting to know the Andersen community.
My Education and Professional Background
This will be my eleventh year of teaching in Arizona, and my seventh year with CUSD. I graduated in 2007 with my B.A. in Elementary Education from Eastern Washington University, which is located near my hometown of Spokane, Washington. In 2016, I graduated from Arizona State University with my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Literacy Education. That same year, our family grew by one with the birth of my daughter. When I’m not at school, I enjoy reading and attending group fitness classes.
My Educational Philosophy
Teaching has always been a passion of mine because I believe that all children have the ability to succeed. I invite discussion and exploration in the classroom through the use of group work and manipulatives. When children are excited and engaged, the learning comes naturally. My role as the reading specialist is to give learners the tools and strategies necessary to feel successful. By teachers, parents, and the school community working together, we can build an environment where students thrive.

My name is Kelly Chandler. This is my 3rd year in Chandler Unified School District (one year of in-person kindergarten at Andersen; one year of online kindergarten for Chandler Online Academy). I moved to Chandler from Southern California after getting married in July 2017. My husband and stepdaughter live in Chandler and I happily got to join them after our wedding!
My Education and Professional Background
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies, a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, a Master’s Degree in Reading/Language Arts, an Arizona Teaching Certificate, and lots of excitement about teaching first grade in Room 23 at Andersen Elementary!! After arriving in Arizona, I spent 2 years working as a preschool teacher at Kinderbugs Preparatory School (in both Chandler and Gilbert). In California, I spent 14 years teaching in public school (Transitional Kindergarten; K; 1st; 3rd; and also 4th grade). I LOVE teaching! I believe a child’s first encounter with school is so important and I love being a part of making that experience positive, meaningful, successful, and full of fun. I am very thankful for the opportunity to join you in educating your child!!
My Educational Philosophy
My educational philosophy is simple: all children can learn! I strive to provide an engaging learning environment in which all my students feel safe and feel loved. Once they feel as though they belong, the learning can begin. My goal is to make sure every student gets what they need in order to succeed because fair isn't everybody getting the same thing, fair is everybody getting what they need in order to be successful.
