Welcome! I am excited to be teaching your child 8th grade Integrated Science this year! Please utilize this website to have up-to-date information on curriculum and helpful links for parents and students to ensure student success here at Andersen Jr. High School.
My Education and Professional Background
I graduated from Arizona State in 2002 with a Bachelor's of Science is Human Nutrition and Dietetics. After graduation, I did some soul searching and realized that my true calling was to be a teacher, so I returned to school to pursue a Master's degree. I graduated in 2006 from Northern Arizona University with a Masters of Education in Secondary Education. I am certified by the state of Arizona in both general science (7-12) as well as middle school science (6-8). I started my career here in the Chandler Unified School District at Bogle Junior High in 2006, but then took a break to raise my children. When they entered school, I also returned to the classroom, taking a position at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Tempe. At OLMC, I taught both 7th and 8th Grade science.
My Educational Philosophy
As your child's teacher, I feel it is my duty to share with your child my love of and excitement for learning, and help to instill in them a desire to be a life-long learner. I look to create an environment in my classroom that makes your child feel safe and cared for. It is when students are in a safe and caring environment that they feel comfortable enough to make mistakes and take educational risks, which is how they will grow both mentally and emotionally to be healthy-minded, contributing adults in society.
