Welcome!
Welcome to Andersen Jr. High 7th grade math with Ms. Phillips! Together we are going to make this an incredible year filled with learning, laughter, fun, growth and great memories!
My Education and Professional Background
I developed a passion for teaching when I was in high school in Northern Phoenix. I had many great teachers who inspired me with their love of education. I started college right after high school and finished two years in the math education program. I had to take some time off from college and finally returned 19 years later! I finished my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (STEM Program) in December 2016 in the iTeach program at ASU. I am highly qualified for K-8 with a Middle Grades Math Endorsement, and a Structured English Immersion Endorsement. I spent one year student teaching in a sixth grade math class in the Mesa Public School District. I am over-joyed to be teaching seventh grade math here at Andersen Jr High!
My Educational Philosophy
As a teacher I strongly believe in order for all students to have equal access to high quality education, there must be an environment that develops the entire student. I strive to build a learning community in which all students will develop a greater learning esteem, will have opportunities to learn in a variety of ways, and will all participate with respect for each others' different journeys. I believe in the importance for students to make connections between their learning, their everyday lives, their communities, and the world we live in. When students make meaningful connections between their academics and the world around them, they will grow intellectually as well as in many other areas of their character. Developing the entire student is key to success today and in their wonderful futures that lie ahead!
