Hello, my name is Margie Schlechty and I teach Preschool at Sanborn Elementary. I began teaching at Wilson head start in 2015 in Phoenix. For years, I taught three and four year old children in my own home preparing them for kindergarten. By letting children interact by themselves, it lets me see how they are exploring in their environment. We will do many STEM projects, hands-on learning, as well as focus on fundamentals.

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated in 2011, from Northern Arizona University with my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, received several endorsements in Early Childhood Education, as well as English Instruction (SEI).

My Educational Philosophy

Hello, my name is Margie Schlechty. I began teaching Preschool at Sanborn Elementary in 2020. However, I am an experienced five year preschool teacher, coming from the Wilson Head Start program in Phoenix. For years, I taught three and four year old children in my own home preparing them for kindergarten. I graduated 2011, from Northern Arizona University with my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, received several endorsements in Early Childhood Education, as well as English Instruction (SEI). By letting children interact by themselves, it lets me see how they are exploring in their environment. We will do many STEM projects, hands-on learning, as well as focus on fundamental academic skills. One of my strongest beliefs is that children learn from their environment. We will be outside exploring nature as well as how to socially interact with each other through stories, singing and dancing. This is the beginning for your child to start their love for learning.

Welcome!

My name is Kara Casey-Kane and I am excited to be part of the Kindergarten team this year! Since my name is quite the tongue twister, I have the students just call me Mrs. Kane. I know this school year will be a fun-filled learning adventure for not only the students but for me as well. I am looking forward to being part of the Sanborn Suns team this year and watching our Suns shine!

My Education and Professional Background

I received my Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University and completed my Early Childhood Education teaching certification at Rio Salado College. I have worked in various positions in education since 1999, with the majority of that time helping preschoolers and kindergarteners as they begin their educational journey. Along the way, I have worked in Montessori classrooms as well as inclusion classrooms that blend learners of all levels and abilities working together.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe all students are able to learn at their own pace in their own time. When given encouragement and the tools they need to succeed, the sky is the limit for all my students. Hands on learning is much more powerful and long lasting, so I encourage exploration and critical thinking skills in our activities. Believing in my students fosters them having confidence in their own abilities.

Welcome to 3rd grade! I am excited to have an amazing year at Sanborn!

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from ASU in 2016 with a degree in Elementary Education (Go Devils!). I began my teaching journey in Mesa Public Schools as a kindergarten teacher. Afterward, I spent a year in the northern region of Spain (Basque Country) teaching English in a Basque Elementary School. I came back to the United States and taught 1st grade in the Creighton School District for a few years. I am now excited to continue my teaching career here at Sanborn.

My Educational Philosophy

Every child is unique and capable of success. My job as an educator is to help all students be successful, no matter the circumstances. I believe in holding high expectations for respect, and teaching students that they can persevere through any difficult problem. My classroom will always be a safe, creative, and inviting place for your child to grow into the best human and brightest student they can be.

Welcome!

Welcome to Miss Verplank’s 2nd grade classroom! I am so excited to spend this year helping your child learn, grow, and have fun! I love working with the little ones and couldn’t see myself doing anything else!

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated in 2015 with honors from Roosevelt University in Chicago. (Go Cubbies!) I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and my English as a Second Language Endorsement. I taught kindergarten in Chicago for fall of 2016. I moved out to Arizona in 2017 and taught 1st grade for 3 years in Glendale! Then I moved to Gilbert and began teaching at Sanborn in 2020! 😊

My Educational Philosophy

One of my main goals as a teacher is to help my students love school and love coming to class. I believe that if students are excited to come to school then they will want to do well in school! I also believe students learn the most when they can participate and are involved in lessons. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” I always reflect on how I can make a lesson more hands-on or engaging for my students. Overall, I believe a successful classroom is where everyone is interested, participating, having fun, being respectful, and showing growth along the way!

Welcome!

Hello there! Welcome to my page and thank you for taking time out of your day to visit!

My Education and Professional Background

My first experience in the classroom was my role as a educational assistant in a self contained middle school class. I loved every second of it! A few years after that, I graduated from The University of New Mexico with a Bachelors of Science in Special Education. Right after that I moved to Arizona and began teaching right away. I spent my first two years teaching at a private placement school in Tempe. There, I was a middle school teacher for kiddos that struggled with behavior.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe every student should feel welcome, safe, and loved. I strive to create lessons that encourage students and make them feel unstoppable! We live in a harsh world, leaving a lot of kiddos feeling defeated, unworthy, and unsure of what they are capable of accomplishing. I want to plant a seed of hope and desire in their minds to change this way of thinking. I believe that all begins in the classroom.

I graduated from Northern Arizona University in December 2006. After receiving my master’s degree, I began working for the Apache Junction Unified School District as an English language teacher. In July of 2012 I started working for the Chandler Unified School District as a Kindergarten teacher.

My Educational Philosophy

Every child is a unique, complex learner. A child is a social being who learns through the development of relationships with peers and adults. Every child is entitled to learning environments that support optimal development of the whole child; is entitled to opportunities to learn through active exploration. Every child learns through child-initiated, child-directed, teacher-supported play.

My Educational Philosophy

A former principal of Sanborn, Mrs. Hock, would always tell the children, “You are unique, loveable, and capable of success”. I am a firm believer of this. Not every child learns the same way or comes to school with the same knowledge. Welcome To Our Fantastic 5th Grade Classroom!!

My Education and Professional Background

I began working in the Chandler District as a kindergarten aide at Humphrey Elementary. I was with kindergarten for 3 years before I began working toward my degree in teaching. In the fall of 2005, I did my student teaching (4th grade) at Humphrey Elementary and graduated with my degree from Ottawa University. Following that, I was then hired at Sanborn in December for a position in resource, working with 5th and 6th graders. At the end of that school year, I was hired back at Sanborn to teach 3rd grade. I taught 3rd grade for 10 years, 4th grade for 4 years, and taught 2nd grade this past year (all at Sanborn!). I will begin my 16th year teaching 5th grade for the 21-22 school year.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe in students believing in themselves. There is no stronger power than that to help them on their paths to their own successes. I want to provide opportunities for my students to share their thoughts and ideas in a safe, learning environment. When alternate ideas and thought processes are shared, it not only builds stronger connections to one another, but also gives my students several strategies to help them operate in the world around us. I believe in the power of shared learning and working as a team, as well as the power of each individual student. I enjoy seeing things through the eyes of my students and spending time with each one to understand how they think and reflect on their learning. I work hard to help struggling students master concepts and challenge those who are ready for it. Seeing the looks of success and inspiration on my students’ faces makes every day a gift.

Welcome!

Hi! Welcome to 6th Grade – room M1! I am excited to be your child’s 6th Grade teacher here at Sanborn. I began working with CUSD in January of 2015, after being away from teaching for a few short years. During those years I was working at a Fortune 500 company, but my mind kept returning to teaching. I was lucky enough to obtain a position at CTA Liberty in January before making my way to Sanborn. I am much happier doing what I love – teaching.

My Education and Professional Background

I received my BA in General and Special Education from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, N.Y., and began teaching with the NYC Dept. of Education in 2001. Between N.Y.C and Phoenix, AZ, I have taught every grade from 3 – 6 including Special Education, General Education and Alternative Education

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that the best way to learn isn’t just through reading about something, it also includes discussion and the exchange of information and experiences. I feel that everyone, no matter their background or age, have experiences and knowledge that they can use to help and educate someone else, and I encourage my students to bring these things into the classroom. This helps to build a community of learners who begin to think outside of the box.
