Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) Jacobson JETS fifth graders are studying human rights. All students analyze authentic text and critically think/discuss what it means to have human rights for all. Here students are working in pairs to create a Universal Declaration of Human Rights poster to present to classmates. They are becoming experts and excited to showcase their creations with each other. Jets Fly With Pride!
Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) The Chandler Education Foundation (CEF) Woo Hoo Patrol visited Jacobson Jets territory! Eight teachers were awarded grants for curriculum extensions in the classroom and grade level projects. We are grateful for the generous support and opportunity to reach for the stars!
Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) Mrs. Murrieta celebrated with pies in the face from her students for being a top earning class for school fundraisers! Thank you to all who contributed! Jacobson is grateful for their giving, supportive public school community. This year, PTO's fundraising committee raised over $52,000. Funds go to support over 18 student clubs, additional books and current event magazines in the classroom, new playground equipment and so much more.

Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) Jacobson Jets teachers Kristina Graves and Monica Nichol spent a Saturday to attend the Arizona Diamondbacks teacher training on the content of the Science of Baseball to bring back to their classrooms. Additionally two students represented Jacobson: Elizabeth Young presented her project on the Area of the Strike Zone, and former Jet Catherine Young presented her project on Choosing the Right Baseball Bat. Both used the Scientific Method and were given recognition by the Arizona Diamondbacks for their project.
Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) Together with our Dad's Club, we worked all last year to bring a large storage unit to campus. This extra space will house supplies for our after schools clubs and a workshop for the Dad's Club. These involved dads, quick to jump in with muscles and handyman skills, are collecting tool donations for the storage unit.
Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) Our 2019-2020 student council members were inducted in a ceremony in August. Congratulations to Co-Presidents Tatum Dannenfeldt and Antonio Ramirez, Secretary Keegan Evanega, Treasurer Kylie Miller, and Historians Izzy Estevez and Gavin Severa.
Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) Third grade students in Mrs. Christ's ELD classroom, who come from five different countries, learned and practiced the Pledge of Allegiance and what it means.
Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) Space Explorers Takes Off! Jacobson's future NASA engineers had a great first SEC or Space Explorer Club session this week in 1st, 3rd and 4th grades. Jacobson Elementary - (2019-2020) What do you get when you combine a project-based learning activity with lobbying and a huge dose of cute factor? A new playground! The hard work of last year's Kindergarten students paid off. They successfully used project-based learning skills to campaign for a new playground. Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Viola? Trumpet? Bass? Sax? Fourth grade students learned about band, orchestra and general music options to help them make a music choice for 5th grade. Thanks to Ms. Oh and Mr. Virgo and our student volunteers who gave these students an introduction into their musical options. Jacobson is proud to offer strong music programs for our students.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Kindergarten hard work pays off! Kindergarten students and teachers participated in a project-based learning activity where they discussed WHY they need a new, better-designed playground and HOW it should look. Students and staff used thinking maps to process their ideas and create ideas for a new, safe playground. Students wrote letters and created videos that went to district office officials and school principal, Ms. Wolf. These kindergarten leaders found out this month the project was a success! Jacobson will get a new north-side playground this summer!
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson Elementary students in Shannan Wright's class had the opportunity to work with Earnest Robinson of the CUSD videography crew and record their "I AM" poems, which highlight their cultural diversity, for the upcoming Equity Symposium, which will reach CUSD teachers and staff as well as surrounding districts.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson sixth graders worked during fourth quarter on their Genius Hour Projects. The students learned how to sew sling backpacks and worked to fill them with toiletries. These were donated to Hamilton High School to help CUSD students in need. Rajani Rastogi, a social worker for the district, was a guest speaker in one class and invited students to Hamilton High to see how the district manages supplies for underprivileged families. While at Hamilton, Mrs. Wright's class packed 90 supply bags for families, toured the high school and spoke with National Honor Society and Huskies Helping Huskies students, as well as attending a mindfulness session. Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson Elementary first grade students' culminating activity project and oral presentation for animal habitats was a huge success.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Chloe Faria, 5th grade student in Mrs. Clapham's class. Chloe won the USA Gymnastics Region 1 Level 6 Beam Championship in Reno. Her proud mom added, "She works so hard, and it wouldn't be possible without the support she gets in the classroom as her education always comes first."
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Thank you, Jets Parents! Our Jets community turned in enough receipts from the Chandler Fashion Center to win 2nd place and a prize of $2,500 for our PTO! Pictured here are PTO President Michelle Holbein and Vice President Valentina Bonacalza with a Chandler Fashion Center representative. Valentina collected your School Cents receipts all year and is excited to give it another go next year. Thank you to everyone who turned in your School Cents receipts!
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Parent volunteer Laura Taylortaft got Jacobson fourth graders excited about bugs with a metamorphosis investigation activity. The students noted the differences in metamorphosis between butterflies, ladybugs and milkweed bugs and had fun in the process!
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Students from Mrs. Gahn's 6th Grade class participated in a "Walk for Wells" event! Each student walked three miles while carrying a gallon of water. After a semester long unit about learning about the impact of water on the lives of all people and the effects that culture and social norms can play in the shaping of one's identity, the students were inspired to create a fundraiser. The students wanted to raise enough money to help provide access to wells and clean water for the people of South Sudan. So far, Gahn's Gorillas have raised over $500!

Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson kindergarten students are writers! Students use specific skills to learn the art of writing. Those skills are built upon throughout the years, culminating in sixth grade! We are a school of authors!

Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson third graders chose a word for the New Year as a goal-word. Then students turned their word into a goal with actions steps for their New Year writing pieces. Finally, they hammered their word into a necklace so they can wear it and remember what to work on. Students owning their learning!

Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson 6th grade students worked with a special visitor recently -- Dr. Sallu, who leads the district Equity Teams. Students shared their "I AM" poems which showcase their family ancestry. Students presented Dr. Sallu with a reciting of their poems and shared where they came from on a map! What a special opportunity for our students, staff and Dr. Sallu.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) The Jacobson Elementary spiritline, under the direction of Mrs. Michelle Merillat, entertained everyone in the City of Chandler Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 1. The spiritline includes 40 students in grades 2-6 during the 2nd quarter. The students had been working tirelessly over the last month to prepare for this event, and their hard work sure did show! They danced down the street to fun holiday songs as well as performed their school chants and cheers for everyone.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Happy Diwali! Jann Johnson's first graders at Jacobson Elementary celebrated the Indian holiday of Diwali during the week of November 12! They learned about the victory of good over evil and how light triumphs over darkness. The students created paper diyas (oil lamps), used sidewalk chalk to design their own rangolis (artwork usually made with colored rice/sawdust), and tasted traditional Diwali sweets. It was an experience we hope they remember for a long time!
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Despite being his first year ever in cross country, Jacobson student Tristan Solomon ran his heart out and placed among the top 30 runners in the Junior Olympic Regional Cross Country Championships on November 17, qualifying him to compete for the national championship in Reno, Nevada. Tristan's 5th place finish out of 89 other 8U boys from 4 different states solidified his spot and earned him a full travel scholarship to compete in Reno. On December 9, he will race the fastest kids in the country for a chance to become a Junior Olympic All American! Good luck, Tristan!
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) The second annual Jacobson English Language Development potluck/picnic was held on November 2. More than 150 people and 48 feet of foods were served from countries all over the world.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) At Jacobson, we CELEBRATE Superstar Students who come to school everyday! Coming to school each day is important. Learning spirals from day to day, week to week, and from year to year. Which means coming to school daily, is very important for each student. We need and want our students to be here so they can listen, think, create and celebrate everyday.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Piper Schneider, a 3rd grader in Ms. Monaco's class, won the Maricopa County Justice Museum's calendar contest. The challenge was "What Freedom, Justice and the Law Mean to You: Celebrating 90 Years of the Old Courthouse." Her artwork will be printed on the Justice Museum and Learning Center calendar cover next year. Way to go, Piper!
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Ms. Ireland's Investigators helped their kindergarten buddies with the Alpha Arch learning letters and their sounds. Each class is paired with a reading buddy class where the older students work with their younger peers to encourage a love of reading.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Congratulations to Jacobson Elementary PE teacher Amanda Dannenfeldt who was one of four CUSD teachers who presented at the Arizona Health and Physical Education State Convention during the week of October 22. Their session was titled CUSD PE TEACHERS are OPEN to Fitness!

Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Third graders at Jacobson Elementary performed surgery on arrays to better understand the distributive property of multiplication.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Jacobson commemorated Patriot's Day with a school-wide PRIDE assembly that included a visit from the Hamilton High School JROTC Color Guard. Carson Beck (son of Mrs. Beck, Jacobson's School Counselor) was the commander.
Jacobson Elementary - (2018-2019) Little ones from all over the world come to Jacobson to learn academics as well as social and emotional skills in the public school system. Yuto, from Japan, was the winner for the best-dressed first grader in the Enchanted Forest Book Fair costume contest! Yuto is pictured with Mrs. Hoover, our library teacher (dressed like an elf) and Mrs. Wolf, our principal (dressed like a princess). Everyone was so proud of his wonderful dragon costume! He loved showing everyone how his wings actually flap!
