Welcome to the Media Center at Tarwater Elementary School! My name is Amy Shoot and I am excited to serve you in the Library. A little about me; I have lived in Michigan, California and Arizona. I love to spend time with my 2 grown sons, my husband of 28 years and my 2 rescue dogs (Nellie and Ninja). My oldest son is a pilot in the airline industry and my youngest son is a Manager for Amazon. I have one grandson who we adore and love to spend time with. My goal is to help all students find the book lover within.
My Education and Professional Background
I received my AA in Early Childhood Education from Mira Costa Community College in California. After teaching preschool for 2 years, I obtained my BA from San Diego State University and my Elementary Teaching Credential from California State University, San Marcos. I have earned a Reading Specialist, Media Specialist & Structured English Immersion endorsement. I have experience teaching Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade, and 8 years as a Media/Reading Specialist.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that the Library should be the Hub of a school. The Library should have a warm and welcoming environment where students feel safe and loved. I feel that every child is unique, loveable and capable of success! I hope to inspire and encourage my students to learn and grow. The vision of our library is for all students to become life-long readers. I specialize in finding the right book for every student to instill this love. I do my very best to meet the needs of all my students by taking the time to get to know each and every one of them.
