About
McMillan...
Welcome to Ms. McMillan's Fearless 6th Grade Class! I am so excited to be your child's 6th grade teacher. I am an Arizona Native and grew up in the Southeast valley. Both of my parents were educators. So, to say the least, I was born to be a teacher!I am looking forward to a year full of fun and learning!
My Education and Professional Background
I went to Arizona State University for my undergraduate studies. While I was at ASU, I had the great opportunity and experience of being an ASU cheerleader for four years. Four years later, in 1999, I started my teaching career in Los Angeles, California at Saticoy Elementary School. At Saticoy, I taught 3rd and 5th grade. In 2002, I received a Masters in Education with an emphasis in Cross-cultural Teaching. In 2007, I started teaching at Tarwater Elementary School. I truly love my job! I feel so blessed to be a part of the Tarwater family. I am so glad to be a Toro!
My Educational Philosophy
I believe every child has the capacity to learn. I believe in providing a rich environment, full of diverse learning opportunities for growth and enrichment. I believe in encouraging the students to have a voice and a take the front row seat in their education. I believe in challenging them to reach their full potential; nothing worthwhile comes to us without working hard to get it. I love teaching and I feel it is important to create an atmosphere where students feel safe and comfortable to be themselves. I believe it is so important to bond with your students and have a good relationship with them. Children walk into my classroom as a student, and leave as a family member.
