Welcome to 5th grade! It's going to be a great year; we will be learning so much and having some fun while we do it.
My Education and Professional Background
My name is Terri Schilling; this is my 22nd year teaching, twenty-one of them as a fifth grade teacher! What can I say? I love kids at this age and the curriculum is interesting, as well as challenging. I am a wife, mother, grandmother, and a dog mom. My family means the world to me; my husband, Michael, son, Kete and his wife, Gina, daughter Lisa and her husband, Bryan, my grandkids, Dillon and Autry, and of course, my four dogs, Kindle, Izzy, Zooey, and Trixie.
I received my Bachelor of Science and my Masters of Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. My love of teaching came later in life and I am so glad it did. It is being with my students that makes me realize this is the best career for me.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that every child is an individual and learns in different ways. Every child has different circumstances and the teacher should always be aware of that. Every child should feel safe when in the classroom. The classroom should be student-centered. Learning should be engaging, fun, and challenging. Teachers should have high expectations and should always be an example for the students to follow. Teachers should be partners with parents in their children’s education. Involvement within the school community is important to the school’s success.
